Harrison NFL.com: Bill Belichick tops 2017 NFL head coach power rankings
"20) Ben McAdoo, New York Giants
Heckuva head-coaching debut in 2016 for McAdoo, who faced a difficult task in replacing a man who won two Super Bowls for Big Blue. McAdoo took largely the same nucleus Tom Coughlin had -- along with welcome free-agent additions Damon Harrison, Olivier Vernon and Janoris Jenkins -- and went 11-5. Change a few baaaaaad drops into receptions, and maybe the playoff game goes differently at Lambeau. McAdoo got through to his players, boat tripsaside, and now must prove he can handle larger expectations."

A good article by Pat Leonard without any of the obligatory "Myersesque" snarky negativity. Will wonders never cease?
Yeah...
Dan in the Springs : 6/22/2017 5:25 pm : link
the Leonard article was a good one. Some thoughts:

Smith starting on the last day of mini-camp was news to me. I think he has a legit shot of making the 53. I'll be surprised if we don't have a FB to start the season.

Re: Bisnowaty playing at RT. I'm very excited to see what he can bring to the table, but I doubt very much he'll be serious competition for RT. One thing I'm not really sure about is why we always take guys who played well in college at LT and move them to the right side. Bisnowaty talked about how difficult it is to do that - it's like a righty having to write left-handed. Everything is backwards. I'd really like to have seen him at the LT position.

Sometimes I think we overthink the position. In today's NFL, is it really that much more difficult to man the LT position than the RT one? It seems that more and more teams are putting playmakers at either of the edges. I'd think you want to put your players at the position they succeeded in more often than not. I realize that playing Biz at RT now increases his position versatility, but the coaches seem to indicate that they really don't see him at LT at all. RT or guard. Just like Pugh.

Yet when Pugh got to LT as a sub, he performed admirably. Maybe Pugh would have been a quality LT in this league.

I realize I'm an amateur questioning the pros, but the pros have done a really poor job lately at finding talent on the OL. Could it be that they've overestimated the importance of certain body attributes like arm-length in making decisions about OL positions? Maybe they're underestimating other attributes like play on the field. I think it would be interesting if a team decided to pick the best OL in college and played them at their college positions.
