Yes, he costs more, but he's the better player and always will be imo.

Strome could still be a 60-70 point guy but Isles need to surround JT with talent. I don't think Eberle played with McDavid last year did he? Draisaitl plays the right side I believe.

he's played with Tavares before on National teams. He's a consistent 50-65 point guy. It's a step in the right direction. Strome just isn't a winger. And isles have plenty of centers. good deal.

This team needs to get some talent around JT and this is a good step in that direction.

was Hamonic for Eberle, so this is a lower price than that. Eberle is better than Strome right now and has a much higher floor going forward. Flip side is that Eberle is more expensive and Strome is only 23, so possibility he's the better player at some point.

I like the deal. Not a home run, but a good deal at a good price IMO. Eberle and JT are friendly and the 2017-2018 Islanders are better than they were a few hours ago.

he's been available for 3-4 years which is a big red flag, especially given all the talk about a bad locker room (and see the Hall trade).

But I guess this is something the Isles have to do. You cant evaluate this as just JE for RS. Everything revolves around keeping JT. So it's either trades like this or pricey free agent splashes. This one is unlikely to burn the Isles if JT leaves, and is plausibly more likely to make him stay.

but the one thing I'd be really surprised at would be if he turns out to be a goal scorer. He just isn't. Hes a good 3rd line center and prob a no better than average 2nd line center. He doesn't excel on the PP or PK either.
