Not in any order
1. Drafting Fredric Weiss over Ron Artest
2. Signing Alan Houston to 6 years 120 million contract
3. Trading Camby and draft pick(nene) for Mcdyess
4. Signing Noah 4 years 78 million
5. Trading for Stephon Marbury
6. Making Phil GM. So far
7. Letting Pat Riley walk or resign
8. Trading Clyde
9. Trading Ewing
10. And I'll get beaten up for this one but trading for Melo and resigning him to a No trade contract
Thoughts?? What did I miss?
Bringing in Melo is much worse IMO.
Good Call I missed that
Good call again
Knicks trade Marcus Camby, Mark Jackson, and the seventh overall pick in the 2002 draft for Antonio McDyess.
What a disaster that regime was. I didn't think it could get worse, but then Phil appeared on the scene.
1. Layden
2. Isiah
3. Curry
That has to start my list.
Knicks trade Marcus Camby, Mark Jackson, and the seventh overall pick in the 2002 draft for Antonio McDyess.
Larry Flowers. Read closely. It's on the list
#2 Hiring Isaiah Thomas
...awarding New York an NBA franchise.
Similar to letting Checketts go - he left when Knicks wouldn't give him full control...but who knows if he would have stayed with the current ownership situation anyway
Either way, what a pathetic commentary that we can debate which moves do and don't make a top ten worst moves list
Why don't you name them Keith
Come to the table with some facts at least instead of just criticism
Howard Eisley
Shandon Anderson
Allan Houston
Jerome James
Eddy Curry
Steph Marbury
Chris Dudley
Clarence Weatherspoon
I mean, I could just keep going. There's a ton of them.

As far as personnel moves, there was like 10 worse than all of the ones you listed.

Noah and Lance Thomas belong on this list.
This started a chain reaction of terrible moves. They then trade Mark Jackson for Doc Rivers and Charles Smith.
They also traded for Tony Campbell and Rolando Blackman to fill some of the void and both those moves failed miserably.
There is a decent chance this cost them the 1993 NBA Title and a series win over the Bulls
That Knicks team in 92 took Bulls to 7 games. They were primed to break out. This is before Starks and Mason emerged ias stars in 93.
Jackson was the perfect PG for Ewing. Xavier had the needed toughness.
Jackson and McDaniel were just a massive difference from Rivers and Smith.
The Knicks had room to make deals and sign free agents in 93 and it just all blew up once Xman left and they backpedaled to fill the hole.
and Louis Orr for Clyde Drexler.
Also traded the #1 that became Scottie Pippen for Juwan Oldham.
Phil in LA : 6:05 pm : link : reply
had a promising young power forward named Lonnie Shelton. Then they signed Marvin Webster to team with him. So, then Commish, Larry O"Donnel took Lonnie Shelton off the Knicks and gave him to Seattle as compensation...
and a first round pick, I'm still pissed

Good summary. XMan was a bad SOB. I was sitting under the basket with my friends parents when he was still with Seattle and got into a brawl with Oakley right in front of us
By FAR the biggest waste of precious resources and could have amnesty Stoudemire, signed a new Robin for Melo and maybe have another couple good seasons..

They didn't choose not to sign McDaniel. They had cap room that summer to acquire another player, but only if they held off re- signing McDaniel. Under the CBA at the time, they were free to pay McDaniel without concern about the cap.
They thought they had an understanding with him and his agent to wait, but he decided to sign with the Celtics.
But we really didn't prioritize him and we went after a younger guy who played his position.
We really alienated him
It was totally unnecessary as well as we had him and Mason at SF.
Ewing, Oak, Mase and XMan is one of the toughest most intimidating front courts in NBA history
It was dumb on many levels. What we needed was another shooting guard.

Mason didn't play SF at that point. He hadn't developed as a scorer yet, and was strictly used as backup PF/C.
