NFT: Angels vs Yankees 7:05 Severino on the hill

superspynyg : 6/22/2017 1:59 pm
Chavez (5-7 4.85 era) vs Severino (5-2 2.99 era)

Finally broke the losing streak. Thanks to Didi and Holliday. . Clippard needs to be sat for awhile. He stinks.

Cashman not bringing up Austin anytime soon. Will roll with Carter. Uggggh. You refuse to use the young guys why??
That's an odd sentiment when the team's core is

Judge
Sanchez
Severino
Montgomery
Didi
Castro
Hicks

All 27 and under and Bird is/was option #1 at 1B.

And maybe we can put to rest these incessant complaints about Austin not being given a chance. His swing and miss rate is actually WORSE at AAA than Carters is. Maybe, just maybe Cashman and co. know what they are doing? Just throwing it out there.

Preposterous!

Mike Ford at AA looks good at 1B

He hit 4 homers in 10 games at AAA before being sent back down to AA

Saw a segment on this from the Yes Network today. It sounds like Joe and Cashman may be a little at odds with the the 1st base and Austin situation. Joe would like to bring Austin up and is frustrated that the team has limited options at 1st base. Joe did mention Austin's strikeout rate, and that he sees him only as a 1B (he has played the OF).
Cashman says Austin needs to work out a few thing before being promoted, but expects that he will be promoted sometime this year.

In other team's news, Kyle Schwaber (who some would like the Yanks to trade for) has been demoted to AAA by the Cubs.
IDK... they brought up Mason Williams and he's a singles hitter

who was striking out a ton. I haven't seen ONE move this past year in which a player striking out too much negatively affected how they viewed him. This seems like an excuse to me for not bringing up Austin. I think Cash doesn't want to hurt his trade value and will keep him in SWB until the Greg Bird situation has fully played itself out.

And while people are focusing on Chris Carter's strikeouts, how about the lazy fucking errors he's making in the field? I still haven't gotten over that error he committed in Toronto.
Toronto?

Yanks
PaulN : 6/22/2017 3:54 pm : link
Are giving players a real shot when they earn it, a great system. There is no upgrade at first and third right now, Torres was going to replace Headley, that is done now. So if you think about it, You replace Headley with Torres, and replace Carter with Bird, and the position players are all young and talented, things happen that you can't control and the injuries to Bird and Torres are just tough breaks. They are paying Carter 3.5 mil, no way was the plan for him to be a starter. You don't ruin what you are building towards for a 1 year run. Anyone that complains right now about the Yanks are really clueless. Plus we have two young starters that we could not have banked on before the season in Severino and Montgomery, there was real concern about Severino, and now look at him. Yanks and Cashman have done a sensational job, let them continue.

You bring this up every single day. And every day you continue to completely ignore the fact that Austin HAS NO TRADE VALUE!!!! Nobody is giving the Yankees anything for Tyler Austin. And it's also been mentioned to you that Austin HAS been brought up to the majors before, and was terrible. Austin is not some huge prospect that teams are tripping over themselves for. Every team in baseball has dozens of Tyler Austins in their systems. Now please, just let it go. Jeezus man.

To be fair, Austin was a rookie last year, and struggled as many rookies do as they adjust to big league pitching. Before the season had ended he had made some adjustments with his approach at the plate and was starting to hit.

Well
BigBlueShock : 6/22/2017 4:16 pm : link
The idea this guy keeps bringing up is that they refuse to bring him up because they don't want to hurt his trade value. That's asinine. His trade value is very, very low. The only thing that can happen by bringing him up is for him to thrive and that would increase his value. Nothing is going to hurt his trade value, he doesn't have any right now. This isn't Clint Frazier or Gleyber Torres here. Those guys have value. Austins trade value can only go up at this point.

If Austin is traded, it mostly be as part of a package of players. The team is probably going to have to move some prospects by next year to clear a little space on the 40 man roster for some of the young studs.
Andujar
River : 6/22/2017 4:19 pm : link

and he is on the 40 man roster already.
His numbers were better than Aaron Judge's last season
shockeyisthebest8056 : 6/22/2017 4:21 pm : link
on both levels. He's obviously not a Judge-type prospect, but the idea that Austin not being great when he was first called up matters somehow is completely untrue.

If Tyler Austin sprints to first base defensively when a ground ball is hit to the right side of the infield, that makes him an upgrade over Carter.

If Bird doesn't recover, just sign James Loney
TheMick7 : 6/22/2017 4:40 pm : link
He's not going to hit a lot of HRs (Although RF in Yankee Stadium might add to his #), but is a solid, professional hitter & outstanding glove! Head & shoulders better than what they have now!
Line up for tonight.

He's available?? Wtf we should totally sign him!!!

He has a good approach at the plate and plays defense.

It's amazing how low a player like Loneys value sinks at 1B for not having much power.

Yea we might see him next month.. he's the real deal at the plate and has a rocket. Just has a Nunez like glove.. but I'm high on him.

If they don't do anything at 1B could always call up Andujar and move Headley to 1B.

Good point that he's on the 40Man, I hadn't noticed that.

Tesla : 6/22/2017 9:33 pm : link
if you're not going to bring him into a critical situation like 1st and 3rd with a 1 run lead?

Girardi used to be a good bullpen manager....now he's simply awful. He's a big reason why the Yankees have vastly undperformed their expected W-L records based on their run differential the season.
Doesn't Austin hit lefties?
xman : 6/22/2017 9:36 pm : link
He seems like a platoon guy in the best case senario. We are totally spoiled with the phenomenal experience of seeing elite talent in Judge and Sanchez

Having a four run lead at home with your best pitcher going is a tough one to lose. Let's hope for some runs.
Who would have thought before the season that we would miss C.C. so much?

It was probably the worst of this shitty 10 game stretch. Laziness and sloppiness defensively combined with an offense that literally went to sleep the final 7 innings of the game.

They had TWO baserunners the last 7 innings of the game.
Awful game

Seems the great winning streak was a mirage. This looks more like what so many predicted about the Yankees at the beginning of the season. Boston et al will be in the running for the Division 'til the end, but Yankee pitching simply will not suffice to give them any real chance at the end of the day. Too bad!
WTF was that?
Kyle in NY : 6/23/2017 8:37 am : link
The pitching, in both series, against an Angels team missing Trout, has been flat out embarassing
