Monk was the pick.
Well, welcome

I think Frank's reputation for moving the ball well probably helped. I think Phil wants a ball mover.

inducing pick here. We sat through that awful season and come out of it with a guy who has a limited ceiling. Yuck x 1000000

Frank

was the right pick. I'm hyped.

I'm captaining the band wagon and im fine with that.
it's also infuriating
MookGiants : 6/22/2017 8:18 pm : link
that we're drafting guys to fit a system that won't be here more than 2 years. I mean I know Phil is calling the shots now but in 2 years we're going to be running something completely different. Swing for the fences, not for a double down the left field line

Yup. You gamble on greatness picking #8, and the Knicks just folded and took the nice, safe decent rotation piece.

He's not great at attacking the hoop and isn't as explosive as Monk/Smith.

He is also better at pretty much everything else.

Eh, he could have Batum like skils. I think he has enough talent to be a star. People poo poo his 3 point shot because of his FT%, ignoring how few FTs he took. If he 3's, moves the ball right, and defends, that's not far from stardom.

Lets see what he is first.
Smith apparently wouldn't do medicals on his knees.

He is also better at pretty much everything else.

So he can shoot, pass, play D, and play PG?

Alrighty then, let's do it. Could be best for KP and his growth.

Top 5 pick next year to get a wing or something
No idea if he's the right pick
Jim in Fairfax : 6/22/2017 8:21 pm : link
But I'll say that there was a similar reaction by many to Porzingis when he was drafted.
If you are taking French F**k
Mike in NY : 6/22/2017 8:21 pm : link
You can trade down and get a similar player. Knicks needed the upside of someone like Monk or DSJ
the value on Monk right now is bonkers

The idea is to try and get a kid with a high ceiling. I'd rather take a boom or bust player than a fucking role player. These are the types of guys you can usually find in free agency or by making smaller scale trades. Spending the 8th pick on a guy with limited upside sucks.

Porzingis is a singular player. There really aren't any comps for him. Nothing about Frenchy is special.

Doesn't matter what pro sport it is- when teams take a foreign player or a non- name player, the fans scream about how their club made a massive error because their team did not draft the name player the media spoon fed them.

Of course, most posters/fans couldn't scout a pro prospect to save their lives, but it doesn't stop them from expressing their opinion LOUDLY and OFTEN.

Never fails.
It's funny

Batum had the skills to be a star, he just didnt have the mental drive I think.

That's my thing on these players. Their mental makeup is so important. It's the difference between Kobe and a host of guys with better measurables. Whose to say Frank has Batum's makeup?

What?

Batum is a great player.
I have no strong feelings about the French kid either way
81_Great_Dane : 6/22/2017 8:26 pm : link

well that stinks. Doubt they can extend him. What a waste. They likely still get Hayward, so for one year we will have fun.

I like it a lot if they can extend him.

The single thing the Knicks have is a guy who is good at recognizing European players in Gaines. If he really likes Frank, I'm on board. Monk and Smith both came with a ton of questions as well.
