Draft being held in Chicago. Will be on NHL Network and NBCSN. Round 1 tonight at 7pm. Remaining rounds conducted Saturday.
Devils have #1 pick. Current thinking is they go Hischier but some smoke Patrick still in play. Unlikely to trade pick and trade down unless bowled over. Some rumors Vegas may try to trade for pick. Devils supposedly very active in trade talks as well. Rumored to be talking to MTL about Galchenyuk and also Hawks about Hjalmarsson/Anisimov. Some thought Henrique may be in play.
Rangers have #21 pick. Not clear who is being targeted but could see them targeting a defenseman prospect. Quite a few should be available around there. Rumors out there Rangers also in on Galchenyuk and are dangling Stepan around the league.
Isles have no 1st rounder. Rumors abound of trying to trade Hamonic for a 1st rounder in a package. Rumors of Flames being very interested.
For what it's worth, we entered the 2015 draft without a first round pick, but traded back in which yielded Barzal and Beauvillier, so we all expect the unexpected.

Yup. While Barzal still has to come in and take off he looks legit. What a dumb trade by Chiarelli. Good job by Snow in that deal.
Go figure...a year when the Isles don't have a first I'm all prepared.
Ooh. In China I watched Chinese woman's hockey. That was very good, actually!
there really is no wrong one.
If the Devlis select either, they have a better future than they did yesterday.
They are reportedly leaning towards Hischier. If is tough but I too would take Patrick 1st overall. His injury history is a bit concerning but hopefully that won't carry over to the NHL as he gets bigger. Fish, as you said there is no McDavid in this draft but I would be thrilled if Patrick or Hischier turn into a Taveras. The Devils need to hit a homerun today and perhaps trade back into the end of round 1 for a defenseman. Mirco Mueller was a good start but they need more help on the blue line.
I would expect an extension announcement pretty soon after 7/1.

but with Hall, Palmieri, Henrique and either Patrick or Hischier the Devils might be able to entice Taveras to sign with them especially if the young players like Zacha, McLeod, and Quenneville break out this year. They will have the cap space to sign.

With Isle fans freaking out every hour it doesn't happen after that
he wants it to be over with.
JT likes it here, he has indicated that management has given him a clear direction of the team, which he likes. He LOVES Doug Weight as coach.
They are going to pay him handsomely. Is there a chance he waits til next season and bolts? Absolutely.
No he wouldn't. Besides, your team already has the best JT in hockey.
The Isles will just make due with the other JT.
Conversely, the opportunity is much more attractive if Ho-Sang and Barzal develop.
I think he's a top five skater in the league - two playoff appearances is such a waste for him. I think MTL/TOR are really attractive situations for a player like him.
I know you are joking but some believe it will happen. I don't see how the Rangers would create the cap space needed to sign him. I would put the chances of his re-signing with the Isles at 90%
Arizona is working on landing a goalie, a centre and a D. I believe Chicago's Niklas Hjalmarsson interests the Coyotes a lot.

#Blackhawks acquire defensemen Connor Murphy and Laurent Dauphin from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson.
PHX is a mess.
"And then punish those young, talented players when they don't play my outdated system and do my best to tear 'em down before building 'em back up...smaht and hahd, that's the expectation."
Okay, I added that last sentence, but it was what I know he's saying in his mind. And he's there to coach the D and PK, so that should be interesting.
Wow. I am also hearing there is a Panarin/Saad deal in the works.

What would you say is a fair Isles package?

It seems like a weird deal. Does Chicago miss Saad that much? I think they are fairly equal talent wise.

It is strange. They have the same cap hit. But Saad is signed for 4 more seasons and Panarin for 2 more before UFA and he'll need a bigger extension. That's the only explanation I can think of

I think you'd have to say something like Nelson, MDC/BVR and CDH with Isles retaining salary.
not enough.
CHI needs affordable, so you have to think 2 x A prospects and a pick.
2 of:
JHS
Barzal
Pulock
Beauviller
MDC
Sorokin
Sodestrom
MAYBE this years 2nd? If not, next years 1st.
Seriously??
That's IT?
Obviously I have no concept of value.
not that it makes that much of a difference. He played for Cleveland in the AHL.. was GOOD, but not elite.
so weird. am I missing something here??
I really am struggling here.
2 years in the league, over 30 goals.. 74 & 75 points. Something is not registering with me. Saad is a fine player, but seriously???
Hamonic and a 4th round pick.. dammit Snow??

Sounds like another big Arizona trade is in works. Raanta and Stepan likely to Coyotes. 7th overall could be part of it and DeAngelo.
Saad isn't a bad player by any stretch - I just really struggle to believe CHI couldn't get more than that.
Oh and losing two centers in three days?
Another AHLer I'm a little familiar with. Moves the puck very well, has a nice shot and good vision.
He's NOT a defensive liability by any stretch, but he also not a very good defensive dman. He's only 21, though.
If it's the 7th pick and De Angelo, it's not a bad trade at all for a back-up goalie and Stepan.
ok, so if this is true.. JVR needs to be coming this way. Even if the deal has more elements.

it's one or the other!! I assumed that Hamonic would go for prospects/picks. Free up cap and work on Duchene trade.
