Draft being held in Chicago. Will be on NHL Network and NBCSN. Round 1 tonight at 7pm. Remaining rounds conducted Saturday.
Devils have #1 pick. Current thinking is they go Hischier but some smoke Patrick still in play. Unlikely to trade pick and trade down unless bowled over. Some rumors Vegas may try to trade for pick. Devils supposedly very active in trade talks as well. Rumored to be talking to MTL about Galchenyuk and also Hawks about Hjalmarsson/Anisimov. Some thought Henrique may be in play.
Rangers have #21 pick. Not clear who is being targeted but could see them targeting a defenseman prospect. Quite a few should be available around there. Rumors out there Rangers also in on Galchenyuk and are dangling Stepan around the league.
Isles have no 1st rounder. Rumors abound of trying to trade Hamonic for a 1st rounder in a package. Rumors of Flames being very interested.

#7 pick will be fine. The "weak draft" thing is overrated this year. There are some excellent Europeans who are in this year's draft. They were very impressive in the WJC.

I am buckled in tightly. This must get done. This is the closest the Isles are ever going to come to significantly improving the roster.
Seems like there is solid interest in Hamonic which should at least lead to a decent return for him. I think his game really has deteriorated after all of the injuries so getting back good value for him would be nice. Duchene would be incredible.

That's why I think the Devils could have a shot at him in the unlikely event that he leaves. They have a great goaltender in his prime plus a very talented prospect in Blackwood in the AHL to go along with Taylor Hall, Kyle Palmieri, Adam Henrique, Pavel Zacha, Travis Zajac, Michael McLeod, Severson, Mueller, and Quenneville.

If that get's it done then Snow deserves an extension after that and the Eberle trade.

Agreed, The Devils have been rumored to be interested in him but I don't want to sign him for more than 4 years but that won't get it done. I am sure some team will give him a 6 or 7 year deal I just hope it isn't NJ.

Defensemen who push the puck are valued very highly partially because there aren't enough of them. Thus they will get overpaid. Shattenkirk will help Rangers offense. Problem is that back half of the contract. But he solves an Achilles heel that killed them this year at times and in the playoffs for sure.

So, if NYR were to move up to 3, who would be a likely target there? Or if they stay @ 7, who can they get there? I keep reading that this is such a weak class, etc. but can they really not get a really good player with the 3rd pick or even 7th? I find that hard to believe. Obviously there are no franchise-altering guys in this class, but there has to be some "very good" even if not elite, no?

there's a couple of ways it could go.
Assuming that Patrick and Hischier go 1/2, I think the best player available is Miro Heiskanen.
A lot of the mocks have Makar going 3, and that's a safe choice.
He skates like Leddy, is very responsible in his own zone and is a great puck mover. Reminds me of Leddy a lot, actually. He's a kid playing in an advanced league.
I'd be all over him at 3. I'm sure if you google him you will like what you read.
7, 21, and Staal for #3 and whichever goalie Dallas wants to dump, Niemi or Lehtonen. Let's do it!

The consensus top 4 guys are C Nolan Patrick, C Nico Hischier, D Miro...something and D Cale Makar.
I don't think Gorton, Clark and Co. would trade up for a D so my guess is if Patrick or Nico fall to #3, the Rangers may trade up to #3.
I would do #7, #21 and Marc Staal for #3 and one of the Stars Goalies.
