Draft being held in Chicago. Will be on NHL Network and NBCSN. Round 1 tonight at 7pm. Remaining rounds conducted Saturday.
Devils have #1 pick. Current thinking is they go Hischier but some smoke Patrick still in play. Unlikely to trade pick and trade down unless bowled over. Some rumors Vegas may try to trade for pick. Devils supposedly very active in trade talks as well. Rumored to be talking to MTL about Galchenyuk and also Hawks about Hjalmarsson/Anisimov. Some thought Henrique may be in play.
Rangers have #21 pick. Not clear who is being targeted but could see them targeting a defenseman prospect. Quite a few should be available around there. Rumors out there Rangers also in on Galchenyuk and are dangling Stepan around the league.
Isles have no 1st rounder. Rumors abound of trying to trade Hamonic for a 1st rounder in a package. Rumors of Flames being very interested.
I read somewhere that only Patrick is expected to play from Day One. The rest are projects
Sucks that it's a weaker class but it's cool to actually be invested in the 1st rd as a Rangers fan. Feels like we've barely picked in the 1st rd at all in recent years because Sather was giving the pick away at the deadline every year.
That being said, he's offense first, and we haven't seen him against elite competition. Honestly, I rarely saw him at all. I didn't tend to watch his team much. Lower league.
some of the Euro's MAY be physically/skill ready, but are in contracts.
Not many of the NA guys are really ready. They could be thrown in on a crappy team and do OK.. I guess.
Patrick can jump in and play. Absolutely.
Sorry, *Rasmus Dahlin
He's a Defenseman, BTW
1. New Jersey Devils
Center Nico Hischier, Halifax (QMJHL), 6-0/180
The Swiss forward is a dynamic offensive catalyst, proven by his 86 points in 57 games this season. But he is also mindful of his defensive responsibilities.
I wonder if his medical records are bad.
I wonder if his medical records are bad.
Vegas trying really hard to move up for Patrick
I'm sure the pick will be Makar... but I think he's not the best pick.
He will be a big, smart defenseman who can skate like a motherfucker. Great vision.

Haha. I'd think Vancouver would grab him. Or vilardi

If he slipped it would be both a position need and best player avail.
He's legit. Real deal.
Hope he works out.
Rangers take Lias Andersson, a fast, competitive two-way center. I really like this pick; kid's a gamer.
22. Edmonton Oilers
Center Lias Andersson, Sweden, 5-11/200
Became an important player for HV71 in its Swedish championship run. Had 19 points in 42 games and scored four more goals in postseason. Effective two-way forward. Plays a mature game.
Leslie Treff @HFNYRangers
I have no idea where they were going with this, but interviews will be coming soon. Ranked 12 by Hockey Prospect; 25 by ISS
Hope we use that Stepan cap space well
Oh that's swell. Chris fucking Kunitz without Sydnee's coattails to ride.
Guys on the broadcast saying he's got a good shot to play in the NHL right away. So that's something at least.
Andersson will help Rangers win games..strong as a horse..competitive. Scouts wonder how much off. upside he has & if skating will improve

Lias Andersson is also great, but he's not going to be any team's best player. Good chance to be a top-6 player, though.

Very interesting pick for the Rangers, taking Lias Andersson at No. 7. Jack of all trades type player, but won't but up big points. Early.

#NYR just reached. And far.
Lias Andersson is ranked:
#23 THN
#31 @DanJFriedman
#18 @recruteshockey
#25 @ISShockey
#26 @mckeenshockey

IDK. Lots of Rangers fans are going apeshit, but I won't because I have no idea. It seems like a big reach though. Seems like they could've traded down for him.

ISS is fine, but the others are worthless.
Hockey Writers is a great source.
That's not what I want to hear. We had the 7th overall pick. I want a guy with top line, top pair potential. I don't care if he plays right away or not. I want a guy with superstar potential and it doesn't seem like Andersson has that.
It's a slight reach to some experts. Not massive.
