NFT: NHL Draft Thread 06/23

Sammo85 : 6/23/2017 7:03 am
Draft being held in Chicago. Will be on NHL Network and NBCSN. Round 1 tonight at 7pm. Remaining rounds conducted Saturday.

Devils have #1 pick. Current thinking is they go Hischier but some smoke Patrick still in play. Unlikely to trade pick and trade down unless bowled over. Some rumors Vegas may try to trade for pick. Devils supposedly very active in trade talks as well. Rumored to be talking to MTL about Galchenyuk and also Hawks about Hjalmarsson/Anisimov. Some thought Henrique may be in play.

Rangers have #21 pick. Not clear who is being targeted but could see them targeting a defenseman prospect. Quite a few should be available around there. Rumors out there Rangers also in on Galchenyuk and are dangling Stepan around the league.

Isles have no 1st rounder. Rumors abound of trying to trade Hamonic for a 1st rounder in a package. Rumors of Flames being very interested.

I read somewhere that only Patrick is expected to play from Day One. The rest are projects
Thanks, feel..

I like Leddy a lot. Great skater. Would love a player with a similar skillset.

Sucks that it's a weaker class but it's cool to actually be invested in the 1st rd as a Rangers fan. Feels like we've barely picked in the 1st rd at all in recent years because Sather was giving the pick away at the deadline every year.

and Makar put up ridiculous stats, but in a lesser Juniors league. He's an offense first DMAN, great puck handler and skates well/fast.

That being said, he's offense first, and we haven't seen him against elite competition. Honestly, I rarely saw him at all. I didn't tend to watch his team much. Lower league.

Staal, 7 and 21 for 3 and one of the 2 goalies I would definitely do.
Haha, looks like Steve Kerr is sitting next to Glen Sather
Anakim : 6/23/2017 7:01 pm : link

some of the Euro's MAY be physically/skill ready, but are in contracts.

Not many of the NA guys are really ready. They could be thrown in on a crappy team and do OK.. I guess.

Patrick can jump in and play. Absolutely.
Thanks, feelsy.

I will never get tired of fans booing commissioners during drafts. I love it. Especially Bettman and Goodell. It's the fucking best.
Devils go with Nico Hischier
Anakim : 6/23/2017 7:15 pm : link
Kevin Allen:

1. New Jersey Devils

Center Nico Hischier, Halifax (QMJHL), 6-0/180

The Swiss forward is a dynamic offensive catalyst, proven by his 86 points in 57 games this season. But he is also mindful of his defensive responsibilities.
I'm surprised
feelflows : 6/23/2017 7:15 pm : link
Injuries had to scare them off Patrick.

I wonder if his medical records are bad.

If the Rangers or Vegas trade to 3

I'm sure the pick will be Makar... but I think he's not the best pick.
Great pick by stars with

He will be a big, smart defenseman who can skate like a motherfucker. Great vision.
Dallas stays at #3

Ryan Kennedy‏ @THNRyanKennedy
Rangers take Lias Andersson, a fast, competitive two-way center. I really like this pick; kid's a gamer.

22. Edmonton Oilers

Center Lias Andersson, Sweden, 5-11/200

Became an important player for HV71 in its Swedish championship run. Had 19 points in 42 games and scored four more goals in postseason. Effective two-way forward. Plays a mature game.

Leslie Treff‏ @HFNYRangers
I have no idea where they were going with this, but interviews will be coming soon. Ranked 12 by Hockey Prospect; 25 by ISS

Good pick by the Rangers

Another guy who was on Islander radar when we had a pick. Played on the SEL championship team HV71 with our G Linus Soderstrom. Very nice skill level but needs to round out his game, and I'm sure he will.

So we have comps to Jesper Fast and Chris Kunitz

Just the guys who leap to mind as high first round talents
Sounds like he's a 3rd line centermen

more of a defensive forward then anything. Maybe he ends up filling the void left by Lindberg
Sounds like a good two way guy

But the offensive upside is a bit limited. Just gonna trust Gordie here, he hits more than he misses.

Guys on the broadcast saying he's got a good shot to play in the NHL right away. So that's something at least.

Anakim : 6/23/2017 7:57 pm : link
Grant McCagg‏ @grantmccagg
Andersson will help Rangers win games..strong as a horse..competitive. Scouts wonder how much off. upside he has & if skating will improve

Scott Wheeler‏Verified account @scottcwheeler
Lias Andersson is also great, but he's not going to be any team's best player. Good chance to be a top-6 player, though.

Daniel Friedman‏Verified account @DanJFriedman
Very interesting pick for the Rangers, taking Lias Andersson at No. 7. Jack of all trades type player, but won't but up big points. Early.

Jeremy K. Gover‏ @govertime
#NYR just reached. And far.

Lias Andersson is ranked:
#23 THN
#31 @DanJFriedman
#18 @recruteshockey
#25 @ISShockey
#26 @mckeenshockey
imo there's a fair chance lindberg develops into the better player

I'm pretty unhappy with the franchise following the way the expansion played out. I don't think we handled it well. That said I'm now turning the page, welcome to NY Mr. Anderson...maybe his nickname will become Neo.

NYR's Gordie Clark said Lias Anderson's second half/playoffs convinced them to take him. Anders Kallur, who is retiring, fought for the pick

IDK. Lots of Rangers fans are going apeshit, but I won't because I have no idea. It seems like a big reach though. Seems like they could've traded down for him.

That's not what I want to hear. We had the 7th overall pick. I want a guy with top line, top pair potential. I don't care if he plays right away or not. I want a guy with superstar potential and it doesn't seem like Andersson has that.
Hockey Writers have him at 11
feelflows : 6/23/2017 8:01 pm : link
They made a trade with a team that got them to the top 10 and got a guy they wanted.

It's a slight reach to some experts. Not massive.
