Draft being held in Chicago. Will be on NHL Network and NBCSN. Round 1 tonight at 7pm. Remaining rounds conducted Saturday.
Devils have #1 pick. Current thinking is they go Hischier but some smoke Patrick still in play. Unlikely to trade pick and trade down unless bowled over. Some rumors Vegas may try to trade for pick. Devils supposedly very active in trade talks as well. Rumored to be talking to MTL about Galchenyuk and also Hawks about Hjalmarsson/Anisimov. Some thought Henrique may be in play.
Rangers have #21 pick. Not clear who is being targeted but could see them targeting a defenseman prospect. Quite a few should be available around there. Rumors out there Rangers also in on Galchenyuk and are dangling Stepan around the league.
Isles have no 1st rounder. Rumors abound of trying to trade Hamonic for a 1st rounder in a package. Rumors of Flames being very interested.
This sounds exactly like the way Manny Malhotra was described when the Rangers drafted him about two rounds too high.
YOU'RE BETTER THAN THAT, BOSH.

It's an equally absurd statement to this one:

We're going to get stuck with this fucking French schmuck, aren't we?
Gotta trust the staff that has gotten the Rangers to the playoffs 11 out of 12 years. Also, there seem to be more positive comments about him than anything else.
lolol my bad. That went over my head. Been a long day.

Pierre compares him to Jesper Fast....alright then, hope it works out. I'm not gonna pull an Anak here.
Hope we use that Stepan cap space well
IDK. Lots of Rangers fans are going apeshit, but I won't because I have no idea. It seems like a big reach though. Seems like they could've traded down for him.
Anak, I'm only kidding bud. The Mcilrath thing was funny but you were right in the end. All good, hope it works out with this kid. But I'm concerned, I'll admit.
For the Knicks, it probably would have made more sense to specifically target upside. If Frank is more of a role player, it doesn't really move the needle at all. If he's more, awesome. Just doesn't seem like many scouts have him pegged as that.
The last thing I want to even think about right now is basketball, though.

Have to wonder if lack of first-round experience cost the Rangers there.
Career Highlights: J20 Superelit (Overall) Most Assists (35) 15/16 ... J20 Superelit (Overall) Most Points (59) 15/16 ... U18 WJC Silver Medal 15/16...U18 WJC Top 3 Player on Team 15/16
Scouting Report: Two way chameleon moves to the pace of whats required...in J20 looks like a hardnosed superstar...internationally, gives reliable utility playing a simple game...great shot, works well off the walls, and can skate...he could benefit immensely from a NA based draft season.

16. Lias Andersson, C, HV 71 (SHL)
DOB: 10/13/98 | Ht: 5' 11.25" | Wt: 198
2016-17 stats: 42 GP | 9 G | 10 A
Andersson was a solid piece for HV71 and Sweden's World Junior team this season. All he has done is produce wherever he's gone the past few seasons. He won't dazzle with high-end dekes, but there is a lot of skill to Andersson's game. He makes quick decisions, has a quick shot, sees his options well and has good puck skills. He can be a standout offensive player, though that isn't always the case. Andersson might be below average in size, but he's tough and strong for a player his age, and he can kill penalties adequately. I don't love his skating, but he isn't dragging anvils all over the ice, and considering all the other positive attributes in his offensive game, you can live without game-breaking speed.

Usually picking a player for the first time in the second round, the NYR reached for someone practically ranked there.
Al Montoya was a Goalie and as we know now (and as Fishsticks fans know), you don't go for a goalie high. You can get great goalies later on in the draft.
McIlrath was such a safe pick. There was little doubt he would make the NHL eventually, but his upside was INCREDIBLY limited. I don't think anyone thought he would be more than AT BEST a second-pair defensive defenseman. They passed on guys with much higher potentials in Cam Fowler and Vladimir Tarasenko and it came to bite them in the ass given the careers both have had and how McIlrath is dwelling in the AHL.

I'm not that familiar with the MLB Draft but isn't signability a huge issue that affects how teams draft? The NHL, especially the Rangers, don't have much of a problem with that. Of course Kevin Hayes was an exception.
In fact, I kind of like the idea that he's one of the guys who's seemingly closest to ready for the big show who already just about has the body for the NHL game.
I would hope not. I would hope that they think he has 1C potential. Otherwise, they shouldn't have picked him 7th overall.
At least that's the consensus that I get
I have no idea if they're right or not.. but I doubt NYR said "well, this guy is sorta safe let's just take him"

a crapshoot as MLB.

absolutely, I just mean in terms of success rate for a draft pick making it to the big league. So much projection for a 17/18 year old kid. outside of the elite prospects it's not great odds of success.
which is why I don't put much faith in rankings.
Or the Rangers take him at 21 :D
OK, the Rangers are coming up
Is Liljegren the BPA?

To me, he has been for almost 10 picks. Damn Leafs
Doesn't seem like a Rangers pick though
Center Filip Chytil, Czech Republic, 6-1/180
Boasts outstanding speed and was able to play in the Czech Elite League this season. Can be a dazzling puck-handler at times.
Rangers get a very talented two-way forward in Filip Chytil. Czech kid played against men back home this year
(((Corey Pronman)))Verified account @coreypronman
NYR pick Filip Chytil. One of the youngest players in class, and riser this year. He's a skilled, quick forward.
I love how both scouting reports on NBCSN say the weakness for both of our picks is offense :D
Despite youth, has already played at the highest level in the Czech league. Seems like a high upside guy.
Can't imagine we see him for a few years, but adding a warm body to the pipeline is what you do at 21

31. Filip Chytil, C, Zlin (Czech)
DOB: 9/05/99 | Ht: 6' 0.5" | Wt: 178
2016-17 stats: 38 GP | 4 G | 4 A
Chytil was a regular in the top Czech league as a bottom-six forward for his team, despite being one of the youngest players eligible for the 2017 draft. It was hard for me to get a read on Chytil this season. On the one hand, I see a player with a fair amount of talent. On the other, I never saw him take over a game when playing against his age group, and he was often the best player on the second-best line more than being a game-changer. Chytil is an impressive skater who can be tough to check when he's coming through the neutral zone with speed. His stick skills are above average, and I watched him create chances out of nothing. He moves the puck around fine and is creative offensively. Off the puck, I'd like to see more from him in terms of grit and awareness.

Hard to see them having the assets to make any significant trades now. So it's going to be about free agency and the continued development of younger forwards.
Schenn came on really well as the season went on. I think he's a very good player and he's also still young.
Just wait until the Rangers sign Joe Thornton and/or Patrick Marleau
@reporterchris
Jim Nill says he expects to make a move to get rid of one of his goaltenders next week. Wouldn't specify if it's a trade or buyout.
Staal isn't going to waive except for maybe one or two places, and those places are not interested in 4 more years of that contract at any level of subsidy.
The only way to gain any leverage in the situation is to tell Marc that he's the 7th D and will be wearing a suit more than a jersey, and then follow through on the threat.
@PierreVLeBrun
Ryan Reaves has been dealt to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Not sure yet of the other trade details
Believe Sundqvist will go to STL in the Ryan Reaves deal. There are also picks involved, including the 31st

I'd be ok with that. Thornton more so than Marleau. Free agent C options are really limited. I'm not sure where else they'd go to be honest with two spots to fill.
If I'm the opponent, I'm running at Crosby a little bit more now in hopes that you trot this jackass out there to put himself in the box or just make you shitty at 5v5.
