Draft being held in Chicago. Will be on NHL Network and NBCSN. Round 1 tonight at 7pm. Remaining rounds conducted Saturday.
Devils have #1 pick. Current thinking is they go Hischier but some smoke Patrick still in play. Unlikely to trade pick and trade down unless bowled over. Some rumors Vegas may try to trade for pick. Devils supposedly very active in trade talks as well. Rumored to be talking to MTL about Galchenyuk and also Hawks about Hjalmarsson/Anisimov. Some thought Henrique may be in play.
Rangers have #21 pick. Not clear who is being targeted but could see them targeting a defenseman prospect. Quite a few should be available around there. Rumors out there Rangers also in on Galchenyuk and are dangling Stepan around the league.
Isles have no 1st rounder. Rumors abound of trying to trade Hamonic for a 1st rounder in a package. Rumors of Flames being very interested.
You laugh, but that exceeds Stepan's best year.
You wouldn't take that? I'd sign for that right now.
And he was just traded for a first round pick
And he was just traded for a first round pick
Obviously the Pens didn't think much of a difference between the 20 picks.
Offer Colorado Hayes and Miller for Duchene.
Nash Duchene Zucc
Kreider Ziba Buch

Grabner Boo [FA]
McDonagh [Shatt]
Skjei [Smith]
Staal/DeAngelo/Pionk/Bereglazov
Ideas For the FA winger:
Justin Williams
Drew Stafford
Jarome Iginla
Ideas for FA center:
Jordan Weal
Jumbo Joe
Mike Fisher
Nick Bonino

Not bad, though I'm not as high on Duchene as many are.
My plan, as of now:
Re-sign Smith
Extend Zibanejad
Sign Thornton to a one or two year deal
Sign Shattenkirk
Find a way to trade Staal. IDK what it will take but just do it. Get rid of him. Staal to Dallas for Lehtonen or Niemi would be fine with me.
Trade Holden for a draft pick.
Hopefully Klein retires
Kreider - Zibanejad - Zuccs
Vesey - Thornton - Nash
Buchnevich - Hayes - Miller
Fast - Boo/Andersson or whomever - Grabner
Puempel
McDonagh-Shattenkirk
Skjei-Smith
Bereglazov-DeAngelo
Kampfer
If we can't sign both Shattenkirk and Smith for some reason, put Pionk in on the third pair and promote DeAngelo to the second pair.
Lundqvist
Niemi or Lehtonen
Matt Duchene career PPG: .73
Duchene has played on some pretty bad teams and he's certainly more talented. But I don't think he's worth that steep a price, hoya.

That's definitely fair. I wondered the same thing; I was basically spitballing there. But it makes you wonder...
Miller + Hayes + 2018 1st + Graves
For MacKinnon??
Figure Duchene moves somewhere tomorrow, and they stick with MacKinnon. But yeah, that's the ultimate prize.

Marketing, advertising, PR and even out gov't, time their launches or announcements. There are no coincidences.
Have a great day.
Have a great day.
I actually thought it was kind of funny and if he did have a cameo or two in some TV light, good for him.
Pundits love their salo pick. I'm not familiar.

Rest of Hamonic deal: believe Isles get a 1st RD pick, two 2nd RD picks while Flames also get a 4th RD pick back

Before any Isles fans go nuts, you're crazy if you don't think the extra cap space is valuable as well as picks to now flip. You'd have to expect more moves to come.
And a nice report on Robin Salo here. Other than Criag Button, all ranking sources had this kid in the top 34 overall prospects. Seemingly great value here. Solid but unspectacular.

Big knock on Salo appears to be his skating. Supposedly needs a lot of work in that area to be NHL caliber.
Haven't been watching because we didn't have 2,3 picks Where are they now in the draft?

We have picks 123, 145, 157, 174 and 207.

Pick 108
Deal not yet done, but Rangers will hire Lindy Ruff as assistant coach (in charge of defense, plus) to replace Jeff Beukeboom.

Yeesh. Never a good idea to bring a type a personality former head coach as an assistant.
NYR selects Brandon Crawley. One of my fav sleepers. Older defenseman, but always looked effective when I saw London.
Ryan Yessie @RyanHPscout
How about that New York Rangers take @crawldiddy14 in the fourth round. He has come a long way. Big, physical, tough with a shot. Congrats!
Leslie Treff @HFNYRangers
A surprise pick Crawley is a decent sized LD. Big shot good physically
Crawley is a tenacious defensive defenceman who also showed the ability to move the puck well as the season went on in London. He loves the physical play although he is not overly big. He adjusted well during his OHL rookie season to the speed of the game and could have a big year next year on what will be a strong London team. (Tyler Parchem, EP 2015)
Also like NYR pick Calle Sjalin. Played DIV-1 (aka 3rd level) pro hockey in Sweden. Looked good for Swedish U18 team whenever I watched.
Garth Snow said he's absolutely more inclined to use his assets to improve his team this year. #Isles
Also, on Hamonic (and honestly, good move by Garth in treating your players with respect and enabling this move to CGY, getting Travis closer to home):
Hamonic situation just explained to me:
-Wanted to be closer to home
-He wanted out but wouldn't force Garth's hand
-Was fine w/staying

From John Shannon on Toronto radio, Hamonic's mom was not doing well, prayers to Travis and his family #Isles #Flames
Rangers take another double overager. LW Dominik Lakatos. Top Extralegal rookie

Lakatos a huge get for the Rangers. He was phenomenal in the Czech playoffs, emerged as one of the best players n the league. 21-year-old.
Poehling stood out to me during the US gold medal in the U18 world cup, and they clearly need centers and they drafted some decent sized defensemen.
My real goal for the Canadiens though is at the big league level - to re-sign Galchenyuk, Radulov, and Markov. People walk away from these drafts and everyone loves every teams draft. Only it never works out like people think on draft day.
If the Habs re-sign the players I mentioned above I read a projected second line of Drouin, Galchenyuk and Lehkonen - it would be by far the most skilled 2nd line for the Habs I can remember, but at lot needs to happen for that to happen. I doubt it does. and that would be after a first line of Paccioretty Danault and Radulov.
Shero has begun reloading the system and made a great trade of a 2nd round pick for Kyle Palmieri who has developed into a 30 goal scorer. Plus the Taylor Hall and Schneider trades and selections of Pavel Zacha, Michael McLeod, and now Nico Hischier has finally brought hope back to NJ.
The Jesper Fast comparison on the broadcast last night was a bit lazy

Did they fire Beukeboom?
Absolutely, Snow received great value for Hamonic and cleared cap room for another deal.
