Nets drafted Texas C Jarrett Allen, dubbed Afro Samurai. Most mocks had him going 15-20, so looks like a good value pick. Very different player than Lopez and a much better fit to the system Nets are trying to run.

Nets second rounder was SF Alexander Vezenkov, stash pick
Sources: Brooklyn is drafting and stashing Alexander Vezenkov of FC Barcelona with the No. 57 pick in the NBA draft. |
Looking forward to see what the Nets try to do in FA. Would be nice to add Porter or MCW, but probably a long shot.
he has a smooth looking shot, he protects the rim, runs the floor, and he can defend the perimeter on a pnr switch... something the team has not had and is vital now.
What to do now? I prefer them to go after Otto Porter... then KCP. porter is a true 3, and 2 way player and fits the motion offense well.
i think going forward they still need that stretch 4/5 type that can shoot from the outside.
a good week for the franchise though
Otto Porter has to be their top target, he checks off all the boxes for them. A long 3 who can shoot and still very young with further development possible. I'd also like then to take a flier on Nicolo Melli as a stretch 4. Don't see the need for KCP.
So for me personally, that's the lens I use when looking at the moves they've made this year. Russell has obvious potential and his performance in his age 19/20 seasons shouldn't go overlooked. He fits the style of what they've been targeting (shooting and passing) and I think he will mesh really well with Lin. Who knows what Allen will be but I like that they went for upside. The Nets are an easy team to take pot shots at but considering the lack of resources the fact that they have at least 2 dynamic young guards Russell/LeVert to build on is extremely impressive. In fact, I don't think it's crazy that by the end of next year people might prefer those 2 guys to Jaylen Brown and Tatum.
The rest of this offseason will be very interesting in terms of how Marks addresses the frontcourt with the $30M in cap room. Mozgov and Booker are grinding vets and RHJ flashed some potential at PF, but they need more there. An Otto Porter max offer sheet would be very interesting.
Agreed. Booker first big off the bench and 6th man is likely a competition between Dinwiddie/Whitehead/Kilpatrick. Still think there's a good chance they add a starting forward allowing Levert to start out as 6th man.
Thanks for clarifying! I puked in my mouth when I saw MCW!
Love what the Nets did, although I'm not sure why they felt the need to stash a Euro. They need players. That said, they are FAR better off than they were a week ago.
I imagine Russell will play the point for the most part, Whitehead will be more of a role player.

Do you feel that Whitehead is a viable option to take the majority of PG minutes once Lin moves on?

more like a rodney stuckey unless he really improves his 3pt shot and defense
He's not athletic/controlled enough at the 1. Always thought he was going to be a 2 in the NBA. Asking him to guard the elite PGs of the NBA is a losing recipe.
Lin........Dinwiddie....Whitehead
Russell....Kilpatrick...Goodwin
LeVert.....McDandiel....Harris
RHJ........Booker.......Nicholson
Mozgov.....Hamilton.....Allen
Thank goodness the days of starting Randy Foye are behind us. Add Otto Porter to the mix and all of a sudden things are really looking up.
That would lock them into their roster with a similar guy like oubre not retainable--- very likely they match but it's not a clear no brainer
LeVert would probably start the season as sixth man with Porter/RHJ being kind of flex forwards. I don't think it would effect his minutes too much though. Lin can opt out next year so if LeVert earns more minutes he's going to get them.

Kelly oubre shot 29% from 3. Porter shot 43%. Oubre may grow into a nice player but 14% difference isn't that similar. There's a much higher chance Washington matches than to either of Johnson or Crabbe from last year.
I would not be concerned about that at all
Remember, the Nets didn't have a legit PG for 2/3 of last season. If Lin had been healthy, give them 5-6 more wins at least.
The key with this team is patience. Atkinson/Marks are definitely building something good here. There's nothing happening with regard to playoffs for the next 2 years but come the Fall of 2019, I predict things start getting interesting. Slow, steady progress is all I ask.
I'm with Hitdog that I think Kilkpatrick could be odd man out, though I know he was the "first" Marks/Atkinson add so there could be some sort of attachment there.
I think Acy has a role here. He's a sneaky knock down shooter from 3 and a hard working guy.
Just like everyone mentioned, would LOVE Porter but I'm not getting my hopes up. KCP has great two way potential so I think he'd be a great add as a backup plan.
End of the day, future looks bright and I'm 100% on the Marks train.
Was reading it this morning. Pretty pathetic. Hope Russell takes that as an extra chip on his shoulder moving forward.

Two sources told me #Nets interest in JJ Redick is real. Owns $4M condo in Dumbo, worked out w/ @JLin7 could be good influence on @Dloading
prefer trying to give porter a go at a max--- but reddick would bring shooting and leadership- would rather guys like russell learning from him then like kiltraptick
