Sounds like another big Arizona trade is in works. Raanta and Stepan likely to Coyotes. 7th overall could be part of it and DeAngelo.
Because any jackwagon can update a Wiki page. The internet sucks sometimes. That said, seeing a lot of comments about MacKinnon here. Since my team has been sniffing around Colorado's dress a lot over the past 3-4 months, I've never once heard MacKinnon is available. Everyone else, yes, but he's always been billed as the untouchable core. Not sure you have the jam right now (nor would many) to change that for the Avs.
MacKinnon as a possibility. But, I also think the Rangers will trade the 21st pick tonight for something. I wish I looked into the draft more now, been a while since the Rangers had a top 10 pick. Anyone know who in the top 10 in the most NHL ready not named Nolan Patrick?

Give me a few hours. Haha
But I like the sound of Elias Pettersson. He seems very promising. Someone above mentioned Cody Glass. Last name aside, he also seems promising.
Can he play? That's all I care about. I'm sure a shitload of players have political opinions I find horrific. Don't care.
Yeah, I dont care. I think a lot of white baseball players lean hard right. Guys I root for. So what. Unless they want to wear a MAGA hat on the mounds, it's not impacting the game.
Cmon, the dude was like 15 when he tweeted some of that shit. I said dumb things when I was 15 too. If you say you didn't, you're full of it.
Shit, I still say dumb things and I'm 27
But for real, he needs to cut down on the Conservative propaganda on Twitter. He's going to get a lot of shit for it and it does seem like he lets his emotions get the best of him both on and off the ice (homophobic slurs not withstanding). He needs to learn to be composed and if that happens, the sky's the limit.

Listen to Anak over here. Composure? Didn't you just stalk Accorsi for like 20 blocks the other day? You're awesome. Don't ever change.

I didn't yell homophobic slurs at him! I didn't assault a referee!
You fuckin guys are unreal. he will probably be the third pairing defenseman with Staal, if he is an offensive player and good skater he will help Staal also. The team needs to get Shatinkirk, and keep Smith, then add a true top line center, if they can get it with the draft pick, great. Then the team has improved. Hayes and Zibanejad are fine as second and third line centers.
but I have faith that Benoit Allaire can develop a new backup for Henrik, and I like getting out of Stepan's contract. He's a good player but I think he's peaked. Hopefully DeAngelo can get his head out of his ass and the Rangers can make a good selection with the pick.
Was 34th amongst centers in scoring, that is not good by any stretch, he is not and never was a top line center, only in the minds of some Ranger fans. Her is a very good second line center. We need a true top line center, even Eric Staal outscored Stepan last season, and by 10 points. This is when Stepan is supposed to be in his prime, and he has been steadily getting worse.
NHL.com has him as 32nd in points and a handful of those guys ahead
(Now 31) centers in the league. Arguing he isn't top ten or even twenty centers in the league is a legitimate argument. I get trading him. But there is zero factual basis for saying he isn't a first line center.
like that one from Friedman above. But I'll believe he's not going to be a Ranger when it actually happens. Just makes too much sense from both sides for it not to happen.

This is the age old MLB debate. Are there 32 #1 pitchers, or way fewer with a bunch teams not having a #1 (and some having multiples). Is DeGrom not a #1 pitcher b/c Syndergaard started opening day?
Is it worthwhile to talk about #1 centers as a thing is Stepan is a #1 and Malkin isnt?
Brett, think about that also. There are players scoring as much and playing less minutes because they have better players ahead of them also, he is not a true top line center, he has been playing the role and steadily getting worse. He was on our team the top center, I understand that, but he was horrible, and by your reasoning, the worst top line center, we need to improve that. We cleared space, added a third defense pairing player, and a 7th pick, tonight that could be our center, or we may move up, his salary savings gives us a shot at adding Shatinkirk and keeping Smith. That would fix this defense. We add that top line center and this team has improved by a good margin.
Yeah, I think there are multiple teams with #1 centers and some with
I don't think #1 center means one of the top 31 in the league. I mean literally that is true. But a number one center is like an "Ace" in baseball.
Pedro and Clemens were Aces. Madison Bumgarner is an Ace. Tommy Glavine wasn't, even though he has great career numbers. Andy Pettitte was not an Ace. Harvey was an Ace before the injuries. Degrom isn't.
Same thing with centers in hockey. Some guys are good but just not #1 centers. It's not something you can quantify. It is watching a guy play--you just know.
RE: Of course MAB thinks they won't make the playoffs
Actually, i thought we'd compete for a wild card this past season. It wasnt an uncommon view around here. And I loved the Zibanejad and Vesey signings. Like most.
And we did, in fact, end up a Wild Card. (did put up 6 more points than i thought we would...)
We'll see what happens next few weeks, but holy fuck we took a large step back the last 4 days. So far feels a lot like what Boston did a few years ago.
Played with the best wingers on our team, and played more minutes, he did a poor job last season and has not improved at all, in fact he has regressed, the rangers made a very smart move to unload him.
Vanzetti, I think that's a bit of a different discussion and I'm fine saying Stepan isn't one of those guys. But there are only 10-15 of those in the league, IMO.
What's so great? Only 1 year of control, already makes $5m, has cracked 40 points twice in the last 5 years, and averages over a penalty minute per game for his career.
Why should I give a first round pick, let alone add anything??

Gorton said he thinks Zibanejad, Hayes are top 6 guys so doesn't mean NYR must get a 1C or 2C to replace Stepan.Doesn't mean they won't tho.
Are far from a finished product. But they gave themselves some much needed cap space and flexibility now. They could move up in the draft with the two number 1's, or parlay one or both in a trade, but they need to parlay this into a top line center. That to me is just as important as improving the defense. The kid they added seems to me to be a player that could be their 3rd pairing right handed defenseman to pair with Staal.
His speed and offensive skills should work well with Staal, he needs it. I would love to sign Smith, him and Skjei make a good 2nd pairing defensemen, and then that leaves the free agent signing of Shattenkirk, they get that done and we have a nice set of defensemen.
If they can turn the #7 and #21 pick into a top line center, then I think this team has improved markedly.
Would Gorton say, he isn't going to tip his hand. But I do like Zibby and Hayes. I see Zibby more as a second line center, although he could develop into a top line center, he is still young and is fast and big. Hayes is more a third line center, but if they are your second and third line centers, then they are good ones for sure. With youngsters like Buchnevich and Vesey to go along with Nash, Zuccarello, Miller, and Kreider we need that center badly in my opinion. Fast and Grabner would round out the wingers, and there is still Puempel, who appears to have some upside. Jensen may get a shot at the 4th line center. But the Rangers now have some flexibility.

Did we get a new Hayes or is he referring to Kevin Hayes?
As the #2C, Hayes gets to play with the 2nd line wingers.
I'm FAR from Hayes' biggest fan on this board, but I don't think calling him a 2C is a huge stretch.
Zib + Hayes as a 1-2 is admittedly a little bit weak, but both players should have their best hockey ahead of them. To me, not an unacceptable option for a team that's admittedly trying to reload, get younger, and atone for some past sins while remaining playoff viable.
Let's relax

Exactly, give the kid a break haha.
I actually think we have a #1 and a #2 in Mika and Hayes. We need a superstar #1, but failing that need to add a #3. The Lindberg loss is a killer.

Lot of talk about NYR using space for Shattenkirk. They liked Yandle a lot, but were wary of term there. Someone like BUF makes more sense

I think Mika is closer to Stepan than Stepan is to an elite 1C.

Las Vegas has none right now, for example.
Stepan's a top 30 center in the league.
Do it Gorton.

Need him to be better than that this year
I'm more worried/puzzled as to why Kreider isn't consistently a beast.
