Barnwell ESPN: The NFL's top QB deals ... and a little reality
"3. Eli Manning
Three-year value: $68,500,000
Four-year value: $84,500,000
Roethlisberger, Rivers and Manning came from the same draft class in 2004. They were each set to become unrestricted free agents following the expiration of their second contracts with their respective teams at the end of the 2015 season. Roethlisberger signed his extension first, in March. Rivers followed up by signing his in August. Manning was the last to sign, coming in several days before the start of the 2015 season in September. Note the tiny differences between their three contracts and the order in which they appear on this list. That's not a coincidence! If you're wondering why Stafford was waiting for Derek Carr to sign his extension, this is why."

Damn. Just when I thought Pat Leonard was becoming less of a douche..

He goes and writes this:

Beckham can fight his critics if he wants, but he should be focused instead on keeping control of his emotions on the field, maturing as Jerry Reese asked, and finding a resolution to his contract situation without becoming a detriment to the team. The only negative coverage of Beckham’s actions is born out of poor decisions the Giants receiver has made. If his attention is on the media, he is not properly focused. If he thinks the media is the problem, that is a problem, too. Here is Beckham, about to be named a Top 10 player by his peers on NFL Network on Monday, talking about what the media is and isn’t saying about him. He indicated at minicamp that a contract holdout isn’t his style, but heading into year four of a rookie contract with his fifth-year option already exercised, Beckham’s absence from Giants OTA practices – reportedly over his contract – has to have the Giants on high alert. Until Beckham gets a new deal, with or without a holdout, this is the biggest story related to this team.

Sorry, pal, but the negative coverage of Beckham is born out of your (and others) propensity for making as many sensational mountains as you can out of a molehill or two. Your reporting on Beckham, replete with innuendo and unfounded assertions, is a joke...and you can't even see that Beckham is laughing at you over it.

"Reportedly?" Reported by whom? Mike Florio? Adam Schefter? Chris Canty? Emil Sitka? It certainly didn't come from Kim Jones, who said repeatedly that Beckham skipping OTAs was not related to his contract, which Beckham, himself, confirmed when he attended the mandatory mini-camp. So why didn't that make it into Leonard's article?

Oh, no! OBJ "reportedly" wants a new contract and that's put the Giants on "high alert!" High alert? What the hell is high alert? Will we find Joe Skiba on the roof of the practice facility with a Stinger launcher at the ready?

- Giants need some better experience/talent for backup CBs. Maybe Verner is the guy...didn't watch him last season though.

- LB group still needs to get cleaned up. Seems like an uphill battle for JT Thomas to make it with both rehab and having to restructure deal ahead. Herzlich should be replaced by roster guys that are now better special teamers as well despite the "team-guy" rhetoric

- OBJ on punt returns should continue as well imo. Be nice if Herz and the other backups would just stop holding on his td returns...

@JamesKratch What defense end does not make the team ?
3:17 PM - 23 Jun 2017

Not counting the bottom-of-the-roster ends: Owa Odighizuwa is the obvious answer at the moment given the uncertainty surrounding his status, with Devin Taylor falling in line after that. Jason Pierre-Paul and Olivier Vernon are locks, as is fifth-round pick Avery Moss. Romeo Okwara is pretty close to a lock as well in all likelihood. It would then come down to Odighizuwa and Taylor, if Odighizuwa is even in the equation. Stansly Maponga has been working as a linebacker, but he’s another name that could potentially slide back to end if the Giants needed some depth at the bottom.

Dear Mr. Kratch:

Thanks for nothing.

Kerry Wynn.
Verner, to me, is a name.
