Smith just isn't going to give us his level of production. Not now. Possibly not ever. I'd consider keeping Walker around too. Cheech, TJ, ec.t aren't slam dunks next year. I would trade Cabrera for a bag of baseballs and I would definitely field offers for Granderson and Bruce. Actually, I would trade Bruce and Granderson and consider bringing Grandy back for cheap on a one year deal again next year. No reason we can't re-tool a bit but also keep trying to climb the ladder at the same time.

on what to do about the rotation. I think if we are going to upgrade the rotation it needs to be another/ace or TOR type either by trade or signing (Yu Darvish). The biggest problem this year is that the head of the snake was chopped off (Syndergaard) and guys that were supposed to be backend depth were asked to carry the team. We can either hope Syndergaard and deGrom are healthy next year or try to hedge against one of them going down. Signing backend guys or even the mythical "innings eaters" isn't going to improve anything.

On top of Matz, Wheeler, Harvey, Lugo, Gsellman, and Montero... next year Flexen, Molina, and Conlon should be knocking at the door. We should have more than enough "innings".

People can believe whatever they want with the Mets. I think if Syndergaard, Familia, and others (Walker) were back we'd be playing a lot better. The hole is very deep at this point and I just said their chances are slim to none but this is supposed to be fun. There's still 3.5 months of season left and I'll still take watching this team over most of the Mets teams I've watched in my lifetime.

You really can't find something better to do during the Summer than watch a dreadfully awful baseball team? Get out and do something more worth while.

There were rumors that he wouldn't play 3B earlier in the season unless his option was picked up and he admitted it the other day. Then when he was asked to play 2B he demanded to be traded. Im sick of Cabrera. I dont care if he gets hot with the bat... his defense is atrocious and he's not a team player. His MAX offense isn't that great anyway. Last year was a career year.

Duda missed about two weeks to injury this year.

The Mets need to win at least 9+ games here before the ASB to have any illusions about getting back into this thing. With the trade deadline 2+ weeks after that, they really do not have that much time to turn this thing around before needing to sell off some of their veteran pieces.

They do not have a particularly tough stretch coming up outside of the Nats, so it is possible. I just havent seen anything consistent out of this pitching staff to believe that it actually will though.

We need Syndergaard and a good Familia to turn it around.

I would sign Duda for another season. He s a good first baseman and I dont think Smith will be any better

... a player I used to coach who was drafted by the Mets last year. He (Christian James) makes his Appalachian League debut tonight as Kingsport's starting pitcher against Johnson City. Coincidently, the other player that I had coached who was drafted last year made his App League debut also against Johnson City last Friday for the Bristol Pirates. I'm getting good at listening to App League game broadcasts on line.
