NFT: Rangers at Yankees old timers day

nygnyy274 : 6/25/2017 3:27 pm
Wow what a pathetic showing by Pineda again. No offense again. About to have their first losing home stand before they go on a tough road trip. It real be real interesting to see where this team is out July 4th. If they lose today which is possible it will 10 out of 12 losses. It's safe to say this team has come back down to earth.

He hasn't been that good.

Sure he's 27 but I'm good.

Like really good. Don't need him or want him.
He had a bad stretch of four poor outings in a row this year, but other than that, he's been sharp. In his last three starts he's given up only three runs and a handful of hits in 20 innings pitched. But Cole only serves as the prototype of what I'm talking about (young, cost-controlled, top of the rotation). Cashman needs to be creative and diligent to see who might be available for the right price.

where are all the "Austin is the man" folks? Now you see why they were

in no rush to bring him up.

What makes anyone think that Headley will be a great 1b? He may be adeqaute, terrible, who knows?

They will be okay if/when the pitching straightens out. It's up to JM, Seve and Tanaka (fingers crossed) to carry the load until CC comes back and they deem Adams or Sheffield ready. Or make a deal for a reliable starter. Meantime, some patience with these injuries that are popping up is in order.
they weren't as good as they looked earlier

More like watching the last two weeks of a team that is not ready for the next step to winning a championship. This year was about the rebuild and we as fans got excited with the hot start but this team is not ready and shouldn't stop the rebuild. Play the kids. Sell off the vets get more pieces for when you have a better team. Bring up the kids.
They are..
FatMan in Charlotte : 6/26/2017 10:30 am : link
playing the kids. And they are in a good position right now.

They can't really be sellers with the contracts they have hanging over them unless you want to move Gardy.

Saying they should be sellers is simply a reactionary comment - and a pretty asinine one, too.

Dead on. Had remarkable rotation health for the first 1/3 of the season, it didn't last. Had a number of hitters hitting well beyond the back of the baseball card, it didn't last. That said, they're plenty capable of potent offense and the bullpen will stabilize.
Yeah, no need to be sellers
bceagle05 : 6/26/2017 10:36 am : link
but they will need to infuse a little more youth in the second half. The vets are already running out of gas and guys like Frazier, Fowler and Wade have earned a call.
Not sure about the pitching though.
bceagle05 : 6/26/2017 10:37 am : link
If Friday night was the start of a nice stretch from Tanaka, that will help a whole lot.
Sell Gardner,Castro,Holliday
River : 6/26/2017 10:54 am : link
Replace with Wade Frazier and Fowler.
All have earned a chance in the show.
I would send down Refsnyder and bring up Anndujar. Defense couldn't get worse than it is.

There is huge jam coming up on the 40 man this offseason.
Sell..
FatMan in Charlotte : 6/26/2017 10:56 am : link
Gardy, Castro and Holliday??

Jesus Christ, why tear apart a team that is contending?

This is fucking ponderous.

Give me whatever you're drinking. I want to get loaded too.

Are you out of your mind? Castro? Holliday? Gardner MIGHT go yet simply because he has a tradeable contract. Castro continues to improve and is only 27 and Holliday has been a true pro and mentor, just what they needed with these young hitters
One bad stretch of play
Kyle in NY : 6/26/2017 11:06 am : link

Like last year. The goal is the future not the season.
Too many holes
* Starting pitching can't count on Tanaka or Pineda
Will CC be the same when back?
* Bullpen
* Injuries
* Defense
* Firstbase
The offense is basically Judge and Sanchez.
Hicks,Gardner,Castro,Headley,Holliday have all slowed
Sanchez plays 5 times a week and we have no one to replace his power when he sits.
Contending now but where will they be in a month? The strong start is fading fast. The whole point to selling is to accelerate the process of winning and winning it all. Hey I would love for this team to win it all this year but there are too many holes. And Judge has been carrying this team all year long if he slumps or comes back down to earth then what?
Yeah, Gardner is the only realistic trade option
bceagle05 : 6/26/2017 11:17 am : link
if they want to open the door for Frazier or Fowler. I think you can find a spot for Wade without selling anyone of note. He's so versatile he can probably play five days a week without having a set position.
I don't think
River : 6/26/2017 11:29 am : link
Castro is a part of the future. Right now he has value.
The goal..
FatMan in Charlotte : 6/26/2017 11:32 am : link
is to win.

The Yanks have enough young players that they can play for today while developing players for tomorrow.

They already have a good balance, so becoming a "seller" seems to be grasping at some happy horseshit because you don't know how to handle a losing streak.

Freaking out over Sanchez getting a rest is another example. The guy is a fucking catcher.

You forgot no turn.
Anyway the adults are talking now so go away. Or add something to the thread.
Sellers or buyers in the hot topic now.
Looks like Elsbury is back soon with Hicks headed to the DL.
Too bad Fowler or Frazier won't get the chance.

It was great to see 87 year old Don Larsen come out on the field and get a standing ovation from the crowd. 88 year old Whitey Ford came out of the dugout to a great ovation. And 92 year old Dr. Bobby Brown, the last surviving member of the 1947 World Series team looked great as he came out on the field under his own power. Amazing guy.
I dont think its the losing streak
gmen9892 : 6/26/2017 11:59 am : link
That has everyone losing their minds, but rather the way they are losing. I am just speaking as a 3rd party Mets fan, but at the beginning of the season, the worry was the starting pitching for the Yanks.

That seems to be what is failing at the moment. Up until this losing stretch, I think it is fair to say they were pitching a bit over their heads. CC going down put a strain on an already thin rotation. Tanaka pitching the way he can will be a big help, but there are serious questions about the rotation, which were there at the beginning of the season as well.
there is no need to rush any of these kids up to the big club.
Victor in CT : 6/26/2017 12:05 pm : link
it's a long season there are ups and downs. They still camme close to winning that game yesterday. We knew the rotation was the sore spot going in. Pineda is never going to be consistent. Move on. Despite losing 10 of 12 theya re still in 1st place because the rest of the divison has sucked during the ssame stretch.

Get 3 good starts in a row from Montgomery, Severino and Tanaka and everything looks rosy again.

Bobby Brow, possibly the most impressive guy I've ever seen. MLB player, WS Star, World Champion, War hero, AL President, renowned cardiologist, What has he done for me lately? (kidding!)
For the most part
Kyle in NY : 6/26/2017 12:35 pm : link
the way they're losing is a lot of one run games that they've been on the wrong side of. Those tend to even out.

Bill2 : 6/26/2017 12:54 pm : link
Trade everybody who is an actual major leaguer teaching young guys how to win and deal with losses so we have room for the minor leaguers.

Lets bat Judge 1st since he has the highest BA and OPS. Jeter hit first and he is going to the Hall of Fame. See?

As long as we are discussing just cutting right to the chase, Ive been saying for years that Jesus Montero is the answer. Ive had over 1000 posts on it. Saying for years based on his minor league season a few years back he will be a 40/120/325/400 guy and you guys should ignore his defense or over weight issues or other stuff we hear. Bring him up and trade Sanchez. Sanchez cant play everyday and now cant even hit 2nd in the lineup.

What? We traded Montero and he was a bust? Well then. Nevermind.

Then lets just cut to the chase and bring up all our minor league pitchers. What better place to master one more plus pitch or a repeatable motion?

Lets be bold and put the major guys in the minors unless they get better and bring up the minor leaguers to get better. Or sell them all. They lost yesterday didn't they? Lets act now before the next game starts

Come on. Lets have adult conversations about the Yankees. ( sorry Greg and FatMan. You have to leave)
