I'm not sure how meaningful the $80 price is considering Nintendo's habit of releasing a small amount of hardware that's mostly bought by scalpers who sell it for hundreds of dollars more on eBay. If I can find one at original price I'll pick it up but I'm not going to jump through hoops to buy one.
Same goes for the Switch. I'd like to buy one in a few months but I'm not going to pay extra for one on eBay or buy one of Gamestop's ripoff bundles. Nintendo's inventory control has a lot of room for improvement.
If you want one you can likely get one if you purchase the day it goes on preorder. Nintendo also said they will make a lot more of them and continue to ship through the holidays.
