NFT: I'm in the new car market...need suggestions

I Love Clams Casino : 6/27/2017 8:36 am
I am a "car guy". We have an SUV already, and while it's nice for some things, I prefer driving cars. I just need something that will zip me around town, and back and forth to work on my small commute.

I want to treat myself. Whatever I get, I want it loaded. I want all the bells and whistles. Having said that, I don't want the luxury Japanese (Lexus Infiniti, etc) or German brands.....something a little more basic. Hopefully something zippy, and not very big.....

TIA BBI!
What s your price range?
superspynyg : 6/27/2017 8:43 am : link
Do you want a sporty car or a sedan?

More info please
Love my Accord
Steve L : 6/27/2017 9:14 am : link
It's comfortable, efficient, quiet and drives well.
Probably something more sporty than sedan
I Love Clams Casino : 6/27/2017 9:18 am : link
on price...it's really up in the air.....definitely no more than saaaaay...$37,000 and the least amount being about $20,000.....but that may go up if I decide to lease it....I'm not against buying something cheaper if I fall in love with it...
Accord is nice
trueblueinpw : 6/27/2017 9:21 am : link
If you're staying away from the luxury models I think you should test drive the Accord. My company car is an Accord loaded with all options. Good on gas, nice integration with my iPhone (taking calls on the road and GPS and podcasts). I'm 6'3" 230 and it's pretty comfortable for every day commute and getting around. Wouldn't want this car if I were on the road all the time as it's probably abbot too small for that purpose. Very fun to drive!

I like my Accord. Plenty of zip and handling. Starts up every morning too.

I have the 2015 one and I'm still in love with it, and they've only added more techy bells and whistles in the newest release. It's been on car and drivers 10 best cars for the past 3 years, which is how it caught my eye first.

Can get it in either Sedan or Hatchback, with a manual gearbox if you want (which I have).

Nice zippy engine, great handling. Heads up display, heated steering wheel, smart braking, automatic lane keeping, radar cruise control

I think fully loaded they're about $27,000. So not bad.
+1 3 Grand touring
SCGiantsFan : 6/27/2017 9:35 am : link
Actually purchased a 2016, 3 hatchback. Lover the styling, handling, tech and interior. Mazda continued to refine items, in the 2017. They are mostly interior tweaks and items hidden from view. G-vectoring, full color head up display, revised center arm rest.

Drive to work is 30 miles and about 6 stop light along the way, semi highway. get 37-39 miles per gallon all the time. Car is rated at 36 mph.

The 2.5 liter engine is plenty peppy and great fun when the road gets twisted. Kick it over to sport mode and the engine mapping gets more responsive.

The 2017 "3", has the revised steering wheel. Actually much more comfortable, stylish (they got rid of the faux carbon fiber look), heated, paddle shifters and all around better.

Go drive one and enjoy. Drive does matter.

The car is not luxury model or prices as such...but it is "near luxury". Works for me...real well :)

...gets consistently good reviews from the car mags and I personally think the angular lines are sharp. If you want a 2L turbo and AWD you have to take the automatic, which for a daily driver is a concession for me, but not for many others.

I drove an '04 WRX as a daily driver for years and loved it.
Question for guitar/SCGiants:
ColHowPepper : 6/27/2017 9:50 am : link

FWD Only :( But the Mazda CX-3 which I love as well interior/feature wise is basically the same as the 3 but comes in AWD
thanks, guitarguy

my AllRoad lease runs out in September, great car but too costly on the monthlies, and my wife's SubaruCrossTrek a month later, so we're in the market
Can you fit inside a Miata?

I traded my Acura TSX wagon for one.
Turbo, very good handling and low gas milage.
The hatchback makes it versatile also.
It comes with most of the Honda (and Acura) bells and whistles.
(I just drove solo for 10 hours to Columbus Ohio, and then back a few days later; the ride was very pleasureable.)

If you really want sport, go for the Type R version!

Throw Caution to the Wind.....get the new Lexus LC500. You spend 92 Large, plus a few grand to customize that Front Grille.

Is this a serious question?

Another vote for the Mazda3 S (2.5 L)...
beechbouy : 6/27/2017 3:32 pm : link
Bought the Mazda3 GT-S back in 2014. Lots of fun (just make sure you get the 2.5 engine). Handles very well, peppy engine. Lots of gadgets for not a lot of automotive money. Flawless since I bought it except for the special, very expensive ($490) battery (for the I-Eloop charging system) which died after 30 months and 30K miles...though Mazda replaced it for free and didn't even charge me the pro-rated price. Wasn't crazy about the Dunlops that came with the car but they didn't last long anyway.
Drive one and be sure to engage the "sport" mode at some point during the test drive.
My new approach to buying cars.....

Talk to a few tow truck drivers and ask them which cars give them the most business. And go from there.
Altima!
x meadowlander : 6/27/2017 4:23 pm : link
My wife and I test drove nearly the entire midsize sedan range, ranked as follows:

1. Altima - Car feels like a better class of vehicle than the rest of this category - smooth, solid ride, ample power, handles very well. Both fell in love with it. Back seat space was important to our family, 4 adults very comfortable in the Altima. Only knock is the trans - my wife doesn't care - but I don't like the way the CVT shifts.

2. Camry - Yeah, it's boring, but it's solid, flies, handles well - met our space requirement. I'd have been ok buying this one.

3. MX-6 - Failed our back seat requirement, but it's a blast to drive - handles really well, much sportier than the others. If you're looking in this range and don't have full size adults sitting in back, definitely test drive one.

This is a nice car, fun and not prohibitively costly.

I'm in love with the new Civics ... I have awhile to decide but really torn on the Civic/Accord/Subaru WRX
Test drove the Civic Sport Touring hatch tonight.
Ten Ton Hammer : 6/27/2017 11:13 pm : link
It's rather loaded for coming in at 28-29k. The Sport Touring is essentially the top of the line trim. The Type R is a little too street racer chic. I'd like to try the Mazda too.

I love the new Civic redesign.
If you want a good, reliable, nice car but not 'luxury brands'...

I bought one slightly used in 2011 after my Acura got stolen in Newark NJ and I needed something in a hurry.
It is likely the best car I've owned in nearly 40 years of buying cars. It is by far the most reliable--more than Toyotas or Acuras I have owned. And it is fun--fun on a regular commute, or a trip on the weekend. If you fit, you can't go wrong.
