NFT: Matt Harvey spotted bar hopping in the Hamptons

CMicks3110 : 6/27/2017 2:02 pm
Would you non-tender this off season?
http://elitesportsny.com/2017/06/27/new-york-mets-matt-harvey-enjoying-the-injured-life-report/ - ( New Window )
Brett and I warned you guys
GiantFilthy : 6/27/2017 2:08 pm : link
about this fat pos like 3 years ago.
My tender
pjcas18 : 6/27/2017 2:10 pm : link
or non-tender decision would have zero to do with if he was bar hopping in the Hamptons while recovering from injury.

I don't understand why people follow athletes around and care what they do in their free time.

What is Harvey supposed to be doing? Sitting in isolation until he's healthy enough to pitch again?

HBO and Netflix are ok, including with pals. Meatpacking district could definitely be a problem, but it's at least in NYC, so we'll call that a grey area as long as it's no more than 2 girls to every guy. But Surf Lodge - that's a no go. C'mon arc, some of this is pretty simple.
Happy for him
spike : 6/27/2017 2:24 pm : link
Drink one up for the Mets fans
Would love to have seen what Joe Namath was doing...
kinard : 6/27/2017 2:29 pm : link
... when he was rehabbing his knee all of those years.

I doubt he was sitting home lamenting the shitty Jets. Imagine if social media was following Namath around while he was injured?

I guess if you win a championship, it completely changes the narrative.

I mean, personally, I think he should be chaperoned by a Mets official everywhere he goes to ensure he doesn't do anything crazy like drink BEER... but that's me.
unless he's breaking the law
UConn4523 : 6/27/2017 2:36 pm : link
or jeopardizing his rehab, I don't see what the problem is.

Retaining him should be based on performance and health, not having a beer.

You're supposed to get on the horn with TO and ask him if he's willing to sell you his hyperbaric chamber for a good price.
WTF

should he sit home with injury shame?

People should be spending their time following retired executives around instead.

Fans here seem to wish they could keep star athletes inside a dog crate, and tell them NO when they did something they prefer they not do.

Can we agree that sangria and wine spritzers are ok. We all have to beat the NY heat somehow, so it's only fair to let the guy get some refreshment.

Fine. But he's got to be limited to one per day. Any more than that and we've got a serious issue on our hands.

Exactly!
I'll trade you OBJ for him.

Gotta get something for OBJ!
Hes going to look great in

Pinstripes.
You guys are missing the point - the article says he didn't seem
jcn56 : 6/27/2017 3:11 pm : link
devastated.

So you're allowed to go out. You're allowed to drink - however - you must be at least severely depressed, preferably devastated. In fact, if he were inconsolable then he'd be real leader material.
Not saying he can't enjoy his life
CMicks3110 : 6/27/2017 3:19 pm : link
But it's weird we don't hear these stories with David wright or when Zack wheeler was injured for 2 years

Why do you think that is? Is it because nobody will care about those stories and nobody will click and read and make a stink about it? The only reason these stories are written is because people will freak out and click. Thats it.
They should non-tender Harvey
Vanzetti : 6/27/2017 3:26 pm : link
and use the extra money to sign Tebow longterm.
He's likely done on the field any way
Rflairr : 6/27/2017 3:35 pm : link
I would non tender. And has nothing to do with his off the field bullshit

New York media has to be the worst in the country
the optics
Les in TO : 6/27/2017 4:10 pm : link
are bad - when you are a multimillion dollar athlete, fair or not, you are expected by some fans to be dedicated to your craft 24/7 especially during the season. and if lo and behold you elect to not travel with the team when injured and you spend that free time bar hopping in the hamptons instead of reading up on the tendencies of the batters you face or watching video, those fans are going to tear you apart.

the reality is that teams probably don't care, as long as you perform when called upon. there was a good article today in the WSJ on how chris sale skips all meetings with pitching coaches and catchers to discuss upcoming opponents and batter's tendencies and how he has only once in his career shook off a catcher's signal. he doesn't do any prep work, but he brings the goods.
I wonder if
spike : 6/27/2017 4:14 pm : link
he has a drinking problem though..

Don't Worry the Yankees have delt with this sort of player before. We'll fix him.
"Optics"
UConn4523 : 6/27/2017 6:27 pm : link
really hate that term. Why do fans feel like they need someone to act a certain way to clear some sort of made up measurement on character.

If Harvey is starting drunk altercations then that's something to complain about but until then.....optics?
.
arcarsenal : 6/27/2017 6:30 pm : link
For some reason, fans think athletes owe it to them to spend every waking moment of their lives training, studying playbooks, hanging out in the batting cage, etc. as if these 20-somethings are robots with no desire whatsoever to have any sort of life outside of their career.

The "optics" bullshit is so ridiculous. Give me a break.

Nobody would have recognized Zack Wheeler, or cared.
The worry with Harvey
81_Great_Dane : 6/27/2017 6:56 pm : link
is that this is part of a pattern of him not taking care of himself or taking his career seriously enough. He's lost the benefit of the doubt. If it were another guy, the reaction would be different.

It's his time off, yes, etc. But he needs to make a statement to the fans and his teammates about his seriousness and preparation, and this kind of thing doesn't support that.

It's not really fair, but there it is.
.
arcarsenal : 6/27/2017 7:00 pm : link
What exactly do people expect him to do? Never leave his house? He's not allowed to enjoy anything or have fun because he's injured?

I don't understand this mentality at all. He's allowed to do what he wants in his free time. He's not breaking laws, he's not getting into fights. Why does it matter if he hangs out in the Hamptons on a nice summer day with friends?

People should worry more about their own lives rather than spend so much time gossiping about what athletes do in their free time. It's like a group of fucking high school girls.

I am pretty sure
Brian Cashman would pick up Harvey
Yankees have dealt with this many times before.
CC recently. If you Non Tender Harvey he will get swooped up.Rays,Toronto,Os, all love reclamation projects like him. When you show greatness it always makes someone believe that you can be great again. Be careful Mets fans you may get what you wish for.

Not going to start a new Mets thread.. but now Gsellman gets hurt running to 1st. This is like the 5th player on this team this year that has been injured simply busting down the 1B line. Why does this keep happening?

Wait a second. Harvey was spotted fucking a group of high school girls? If they are all Seniors with early birthdays I feel that the Mets should tender. If just one is born post 6-1 then auto non-tender.
Where is Flores going?
schabadoo : 6/27/2017 9:33 pm : link
That was odd.
Make him look silly with curveballs...
schabadoo : 6/27/2017 9:38 pm : link
Groove a fastball right down the middle while ahead in the count. Just stupid.
Mets are a defensive joke
Rob in Rockaway : 6/27/2017 9:43 pm : link
I don't even know what to say about Duda and Flores. Any positive vibe from the Giants sweep and these two just wipe it right away. Duda is a choker who threw away a WS game and Flores is just a fucking butcher in the field.

Hopefully we can add a few more DH's in the offseason to add to Duda, Flores, TJ Rivera, Bruce, etc...

Poor lifting and stretching routines

I think a lot of these guys are tweaking their muscles with the workout routines and then really aggravating the injury on the field. Pulled muscles usually occur when you are busting it and straining the muscle beyond its capacity. That's not the case with the Mets. They are getting injured on routine plays, which makes me think the muscle had already been tweaked.
Fire Barwics

and Ramirez.

This is a joke. Hammies are for everyone. It used to be Reyes who would injure it when he was a youngster with the Mets
Here's the problem
twostepgiants : 6/27/2017 10:17 pm : link
Matt Harvey is 33-31 with a 3.22 era in his 5 year Mets career

As a comp

Bartolo Colon was 44-34 with a 3.9 era in his 3 year Mets career.

And now 4 of 5 injured seasons

If Harvey was more than a .500 pitcher and could stay healthy, people wouldn't care about his nightlife
unfortunately
spike : 6/28/2017 7:17 am : link
the "new" Harvey is a .500 pitcher at best case scenario. I don't see him improve much more in the future.

I hope he invested well and/or his family has money to lean on.
