There are many just assuming Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott will only get better, but that isn't always the case and there's actually a long list of examples to attest to that. From Rick Mirer to Bob Griffin at QB and from Ricky Ervins to Todd Gurley at RB.
They say that players make their most significant leap from their rookie year to their second year, but it's far from set in stone. There are many, many examples of players who never duplicated their rookie success and it has nothing to do with injuries or outside issues. Sometimes it's simply a case of the league figuring them out. I still don't understand how Nick Foles could go from the Pro Bowl season he had in year two to the afterthought he ultimately became.
I actually like Prescott and wish him well, albeit not as an NFL QB. He seems like a high character guy to me. As for Elliott, what a fucking dick. He is in for a rude awakening this year. He has a "comeuppance" written all over him.
But he regressed, got hurt and never materialized. I had him pegged as the next armstead.
Hmm.

I thought Gibril Wilson was going to be a steal after he went on a tear during his rookie season, but it ended on IR and what followed was an up and down career. Some games he looked like an All-Pro, other games not so much.
Yea good one for sure.
The raiders paid him and abused him so bad. He held up for A year tho and had like 180 tackles playing in the box. It was atleast 130 tackles or something crazy for his history. He was a nice safety for us tho, but his rookie year like you said I thought we had a stud steal. He was solid overall above par with us
The jury's out on Todd Gurley. I think he took a huge beating in 2016 because he played on a team where he was the only threat and had no OL.
But yeah, plenty of guys who looked good their rookie year and never came back the same. Sometimes injuries like RG3, sometimes off field stuff, lots of things.
Gibril Wilson was definitely not fool's gold. He was a great draft pick.

Rick Mirer and Ricky Ervins are two that stand out from way back when. Ervins because he was with the Redskins and Mirer because of the rookie comparison to Drew Bledsoe. They were the first two picks that year and although the consensus was the Bledsoe was the better prospect, it wasn't unanimous. And there were some who thought Parcells would take Mirer over Bledsoe because he was deemed more of a Parcells kind of guy. Mirer had the superior rookie year and then he just fell off a cliff.
Bad defense and good offensie line but the driving force was Elliot and Dak. By itself their offensive line earned them about 4 wins the year before. Inescapable the difference was the two sensational rookies.
Elliot is a significant talent. Runs inside and out, screens, picks up the blitz, can catch out of the backfield and good in the red zone.
There is nothing to suggest he won't be at least as good. And that "good", bytheway, is as good as anything in football.
Dak had about five minutes preparation for no.1 and took his team to 13-3 (a redundancy is appropriate here). At the very end when they were far behind Green Bay he was forced to move from caretaker to wide open. And he responded.
This is "high character, and work ethic all the way. he may never be a great gunslinger, but the idea that he won't get markedly better and the comparisons drawn here to support that idea ....is fanciful.
We can (and I think will) beat them. And certainly there's a chance that they'll regress but that's true for anyone at any time.
These are two superb athletes playing within a good system and with good coaching. They have a superb supporting cast with a great O line, superb (if aging) tight end, a talented receiving corp wiht Bryant and Beasley.
We will beat them (if we beat them) because Jerry Reese has assembled one of the best rosters I've ever seen and not because Dak And Elliot regress.
Alfred Morris
Amobi Okoye (I thought was going to be a beast)
Michael Clayton
Kendrell Bell ! (Thank God we signed Antonio Pierce instead!)
Vince Young
...Jonas Seawright
As a rookie he had 74 receptions for 894 yards. Never matched those numbers again, although he came close in 2005.
I remember that stupid fumble he had against the Giants that got recovered by somebody else and run in for a TD praised as brilliance on his part.
Wait, Nick Foles never amounted to anything??? He's NOT in the HOF???
Mirer
Foles
Freeman
Wentz?
Dak?
I know I missed some.
To me he is the most obvious one. As far as Giants go it would have to be Steve Smith. I loved him as a player. Just a shame that those injuries did him in.
Ernie Accorsi mentioned him in his book, saying he was an excellent prospect, but worried about his size, and if his body could hold up in the NFL. Turns out he was right.
But he regressed, got hurt and never materialized. I had him pegged as the next armstead.
Hmm.
Ha. I thought I was the only 1 ... really high hopes for JW
what a joke.
Tim Couch seemed to be trending well, but injuries ate him up.
Roy Williams, everybody thought he was going to be a monster. All he could do was hit. LaRon Landry a similar case drafted in the top ten.
Courtney Brown. Dion Jones. Charles Rogers. Justin Gilbert and Greg Robinson recently.
For us? Tyrone Wheatley, William Joseph, Derek Brown, Aaron Pierce, Tim Carter.
I remember owning him in fantasy his rookie year ... and avoiding him like the plague after actually watching the games.
fantasy football really inflated his rookie season. he didn't even run for 1000 yards. terrible YPC. lots of cheap/short TDs and game logs filled with awful performances in between good "fantasy days"
I'm shocked he sucked SOOOO badly after, but he was so overrated after that "stud" rookie season.
You gotta lighten up dude.
Eh, I honestly thpught he was the goods. His injury was truly devastating. His burst and one cut ability were something to watch. He looked awesome.
How do satellites detect holes for a man to run through?
