Were it not for a steroid prime or McGwire, Sosa, Bonds et al, people would be going batshit about Judges potential threat to Maris and Ruth.

Which means zilch now to most, but still an amazing thing for us to consider as Yankee fans. A second half fade is certainly possible, but he could still potentially approach 50 or 60

Unreal
Random thing, but

I've noticed Judge hasn't gotten any curtain calls this year. Don't see many of those at the new stadium.

By leaving Clippard in

Webb? Smh. Tired of this team blowing leads.
Where is Chad Green?
nygnyy274 : 7/7/2017 10:19 pm : link
Better yet where is Adam Warren. Girardi has been managing this bullpen awfully for weeks he needs to fucking go l!!!! Five years without a playoff victory. Five years without breaking 87 wins. Five years of mediocrity.
Greene and Warren are serviceable

WTF are you talking about? What moves would you have made in the BP instead of what Girardi has done? Let's see, don't go to Clippard, or Betances, or Holder, or Webb, or German, or... Oh, and Chapman and Warren have been injured for parts of this past month.

So who would you have used?

only hindsight tells you what works or doesn't. But when Betantces is off his game you could try shifting him to the 7th. Try going with the hotter hand when one guys is horribly off and you can easily sense it

I'm talking about you! C'mon, who would you have used in all these spots that Girardi supposedly fucked up? You're smart enough to know that he doesn't know how to manage. So tell me what you'd do, you whiney fuck.

Travis Shaw is having a good season, but he's not Ted Williams. Intentionally walking him so Clipp could face a guy who hit a long ass sac fly against him the previous inning is indefensible.

Actually, it does. This BP was running on fumes for quite some time, and every kid we tried ultimately failed. So our only hope was to turn to the guys we had at those times.

And if you can't see that, you're missing something.

BTW, I apologize for calling nygnyy a whiney fuck. I have trouble with folks not being able to handle a bit of disappointment. I'd still love to see how nygnyy would have handled things better over the course of this last month, where NO ONE in the BP performed up to past history, none of the kids came through consistently, and the BP was gassed.

You can tell me too, SoZ, since you know so much more about the game than I do.
Yes, Clippard has been awful but
HomerJones45 : 7/7/2017 10:55 pm : link
the Brewers have given the Yanks 4 walks and 5 errors and the Yanks have managed a whole 3 hits against Guerra and Hader. Pathetic.
When we're as good and deep as they are, it won't happen to us either.
yatqb : 7/7/2017 10:58 pm : link
But when you have Bird, Castro, Holliday and Hicks out of the lineup at the same time, with Ellsbury out for a part of that time, with Headley our only option at 3rd, and with the SP AND BP issues we've had this year, you're gonna lose a bunch of games.

All of us HAD to know that our pitching was our Achilles heel this year. Well, with CC's injury and Pineda reverting to form it finally fell off the cliff.

That's the team we have. It's got it's share of weaknesses. Not like the Astors, Dodgers, Sox or whomever.

At what point is Clip Joint sent down?
B in ALB : 7/7/2017 11:49 pm : link
Why did Binders leave him in so long?

Wtf is going on?

And does anyone else notice how Clip Joint shows his grip in the glove to CF? You can clearly see him grip either the FB or the change. I mean, I can see it from the 60" TV. There's no doubt other teams see it as well.

And Head Case batting 2nd? Meanwhile, didn't Binders bat ARod 8th at one point?

That was Torre. In a playoff game. So bad.

But I'm pretty fed up with Girardi at this point. Said this the other day, he's done a good job with some really weak rosters the last few seasons. But I wonder if he starts to get stale. He's had a brutal last month

The devotion to guys like Headley and Clippard is hard to understand. To stretch Clippard to 36 pitches there is just having such a poor feel for the situation.

He's slow to trust certain players while other veterans get a really long leash. Makes me wonder if he's the right guy to lead what will be a very young team coming up.

Other team makes 5 errors and you get still get blown out. Come on
Flaherty was even critical of Girardi on the YES postgame.
bceagle05 : 7/8/2017 12:11 am : link
Usually those orders come from up top - I wonder if the suits are a little down on Binders?

Castro and Halliday were healthy when the Yankees went 1-6 on the west coast then went 2-4 the next home stand so 3-10 in those games so take the injury excuse somewhere else,

And clearly that was Girardi's fault. Not the talent level of the team. Someone always has to be to blame, and it must be Girardi.

I'm not a Girardi apologist or critic, but I think that most of us KNEW that this team's start was a wonderful and unexpected thing. It was unexpected in part because no one knew that Judge, Castro, Hicks, Pineda and CC would perform so well early on. But the shit hit the fan, and the pitching went to shit, even BP pieces who had been reliable in the past. And the Yanks and Girardi threw anything they could at that problem, and nothing worked. Starters like Cessa, Pineda, even Tanaka, pitched poorly, and they AND our good kid starters often didn't go deep enough into games to protect a tired BP, and we regressed to the mean.

Anyone who thinks that this pitching staff is playoff level is deluding themselves. That's why I believe that Girardi is the least of this team's troubles, and pitching talent and injuries are it's prime problems.
I gave Girardi
mattnyg05 : 7/8/2017 6:20 am : link
the benefit of the doubt (injuries, subpar play) until tonight. It started with batting headley second... I don't care about his on base percentage he sucks. This is not just a scenario where a guy has a bad game and the fans rip him, he has a bad game every game for 4 years.

It's astonishing to me that we're completely afraid to try something new because he's a "good fielder" (despite many dogshit throws and a bunch of Es this season) and a "great clubhouse guy" (so sit him on the fucking bench, he'll still be in the clubhouse!).

I don't care if Andujar has hands of stone and hits .120, you'll at least find out sooner or later what you have. One out of every 20 times Headley comes up in a big spot does he come through. He has to go. He needs to get Carter'd. And the team shouldn't care if that makes him sad. I know there are limited options and everyone is injured, I get it, but you can't keep trotting him out there when for stretches of time, he hits .000. Can't happen.
You advance metrics folks should have loved Headley batting second
HomerJones45 : 7/8/2017 12:01 pm : link
Kay said during the pre-game that his OBP against RHP was something like .378. Outside of Judge and Sanchez, there isn't much to go on with this lineup so he tried getting his high OBP guys on ahead of Judge and Sanchez. That was the theory anyway.
