Las Vegas Raiders Propose Fans Park Three Miles Away

I guess tailgating is right out.

Documents generated in connection with an effort to reach a joint-use agreement between the Raiders and UNLV at the venue include a proposal by the Raiders to use thousands of parking spaces at the UNLV campus, according to Adam Candee of the Las Vegas Sun. And here’s the twist: The UNLV campus is more than three miles from the site of the new Raiders stadium.

The stadium site will have 2,400 parking spaces, only 15 percent of the legally-required spots for the 65,000-seat venue. The Raiders have proposed using nearly 80 acres on the UNLV campus for parking, including 4,200 spaces at the Thomas & Mack Center. This means that thousands of fans will have to be shuttled to and from the stadium for every game.

Another reason to stay home.

I'm sure the sports books will make it very convenient for people betting on games to part with their $$. Parties for fans in Raiders gear! Drink specials! 5% bonus on second half prop bets!

Fans who want to go watch the actual game? Of secondary importance
And obviously while casinos are still big business

bringing in an NFL team represents an ongoing effort to create alternative draws for people to travel to and spend money in Vegas. Just sounds like they've got a ways to go to create a first class fan experience
Wonder if UNLV has the balls

To tell them to pound sand and leave them way short of the required parking unless they figure out a better deal for them. Methinks the price of the industrial/commericial land surrounding the stadium is at an all time high about now.
I'm rooting

for a Las Vegas Raiders failure of epic proportions, and I think I'll wind up satisfied.
I don't know - these greedy owners across all sports

keep coming up with new and interesting ways to stick it to people, and I keep thinking to myself 'now they've gone too far, there's no way anyone's going to put up with that shit', and they just keep finding more people willing to bend over and take it.

Salaries can't keep up with the cost of inflation for most Americans, yet somehow even shitty teams can get by charging an arm and a leg for a ticket.

This might be the one time it isn't put up with because this is a brand new fan base; there is no inherent loyalty to bank on.
Game tickets are a luxury good

I have no problem with teams charging what the market will bear for them. If they don't, scalpers will buy them and take the difference for themselves.

I do have a big problem with governments handing over taxpayer dollars to billionaires so they can build places for their players to play. You could put that money in a helicopter and drop it over the city and get a better ROI than building a sports venue.
Makes sense

and not unprecedented when a stadium is built in a developed area. A lot of businesses and developed areas would need to be flattened to come up with enough parking. Green Bay uses a system of shuttle buses as does MetLife, so there is nothing unusual in having parking away from the ballpark.

UNLV will be compensated. Highly unlikely they will say no.
It's probably still

Isn't this only

No. The new stadium site will not have room for the required parking spaces.

No. They are proposing having only 2,400 spots at the new stadium. By comparison, MetLife, which was mentioned in this thread as having some off-site parking as well, has something like 28,000 on-site spots.
Here is a thought
Reale01 : 7/10/2017 2:45 pm : link
Teams can only take parking revenue from onsite parking. Do that and every stadium will have plenty.
Crazy that that's a
Metnut : 7/10/2017 2:51 pm : link
permanent proposal. They'll need to have an insanely good shuttle system to make it doable.
