Mets still waiting for an answer from Bartolo Colon. If he returns, was told there is a good chance he would be placed in the rotation.
This is exactly why I dont want Colon...

The balls are seriously flying out. The juiced balls this year suck. Some of those weren't even full swings.

So many players in this league have such awful fundamentals.

I don't get it. Knowing how to slide is something you learn in fucking little league.

From what I saw, which was not the whole game, I thought Jake pitched very well. Sure, got dinged by the homers but at least one of them but these homeruns are ridiculous.

go, I'd trade with the Yankees. I'd trade Addison Reed to the Nationals - which I heard Sandy allegedly wouldn't do.

If the price is fair make the trade. Maybe, if you have to, add a slight premium to trade in the division or to a rival.

Especially with a guy like Reed who is a FA after the season and free to sign anywhere.

Jim in Fairfax : 7/8/2017 1:56 pm : link
Sounds like it was probably a spontaneous collapse. Basically you're born with a weak spot or spots on your lung, and eventually it bursts. The lung heals itself like any cut on your body. The problem is the air that escaped into the outer cavity. It has no where to go and will cause pressure when you breathe. It's a fairly simple process to remove the air with a syringe.

For most people who have this it's a one time deal. They'll probably restrict him from playing for 3-4 weeks. But if he has more bad spots on his lung, it'll happen again and he'll eventually need surgery to remove them.

I would pay hard earned money out of pocket to release Edgin, Salas, and Bradford. Neil Ramirez has been good the last few times out and has a history of success so maybe Warthen fixed him. Some of these guys are complete garbage though. Robles is coming off a couple of nice appearances in Vegas. Call him up.

PJ not looking to argue Mets vs. Cardinals but 2 points

#1 Yadi Molina is likely a future HOFER
#2 Not really sure why but Matt Carpenter is beyond underrated. He's one of the best players in baseball by almost any measure. Since his breakout 2013 season he's 15th in fWAR barely trailing Robinson Cano and Anthony Rizz0

#3 Jon Jay belongs on there. He's not a great player by any stretch but career 104 OPS+ 3 seasons of 2+ fWAR, 3.5 in 2012

No argument from me even if you recognize Molina's HOF path (which sadly Wright was on pre-injury), Carpenter's underrated status and add Jon Jay, the disparity while acknowledged isn't one that seems as stark as spike was making it seem.

I still think that he is going to get a big contract this off-season. Catchers are so hard to find and he is young enough where teams will likely bet on him bouncing back.

Smith leads the minor leagues in hits. Not the PCL, not AAA, the minors at every level (not to mention his .882 OPS.

Rosario not far behind him in hits and in his own right is OPS-ing .839.

For the record, Lucas Duda 22 year old season was in STL (Advanced A ball) and he OPS'd .755

Of course Vegas has it's advantages (of which I have railed against on here) and Duda definitely had a more projectible power frame at 6'4 255 but my point is I am not worried about Smith's power I think it's time to deal Duda, Cabrera and ideally Reyes, and call up Smith and Rosario.

for Lucroy though the Mets should have a lot of cash this off-season if they're willing to spend it.

Half the Mets fans on this site were clamoring for the Mets to trade for Vogt and he was flat out waived by Oakland and claimed by the Brewers.

I'd stick with Rivera and TDA, unless a surefire option presents itself. There are like 8 catchers in all of baseball with a > 1.5 WAR.

and right now TDA = Lucroy, both awful.

I have to admit it's a little frustrating the Mets aren't ever in on the can't miss bidding war guys like Vlad jr.

You will miss on some of them, no doubt about it, but I think fans get that and for a team like the Mets it shouldn't be as catastrophic for legit small market teams to miss on an overpaid IFA. trust your scouts, and get aggressive.

decline Harvey's option IMO. There's a chance he's good again next year and Mets need as many pitchers as they can get if they are going to try and contend in 2018.
With Gsellmen
Metnut : 7/10/2017 1:43 pm : link
looking shot all year, Wheeler crashing hard lately, Matz always an injury risk, Thor missing most of this year with an injury (although I think he beasts it in 2018) and Lugo having a torn arm ligament, the Mets could use another lottery ticket SP (which is what Harvey is at this point).

It's not just the pitching
pjcas18 : 7/10/2017 1:57 pm : link
the Mets are DFL in infield defense and DFL in team defense (and I'll caveat this with I'm still not a defensive metrics guy, but the eye test is obvious).

Hard to see the column headers but take my word for it.

We had to expect the Mets
Metnut : 7/10/2017 2:07 pm : link
defense to be pretty bad this year. I know some people defended the defense in the spring, but they are pretty minus or "neutral" everywhere aside from Cespedes in the corner and well.... that hasn't worked out.

We could've still contended with the bad defense though. It's the pitching (as we all know) that's destroyed us.

of course as many people mentioned the fate of the team lived and died with starting pitching, but defense being worst in the league certainly doesn't help.

I think we can be better here in 2018. Rosario will be a huge upgrade at SS, even with the expected rookie growing pains. Getting rid of Bruce (maybe the worst OF defensively in MLB) and Granderson and replacing with Conforto/Lagares/Nimmo is an upgrade. Duda is solid at first, but Smith should be better. If 2B/3B/C is Flores/Rivera/TDA then we don't really get better but we might be able to upgrade there in the offseason.
I'm almost
pjcas18 : 7/10/2017 3:10 pm : link
positive the Mets will not go into the 2018 season with Flores and TJ as the 2B/3B starters.

TDA very possibly starts at C though.

I still Cecchini should be a lock with a strong second half, he's been pretty hot lately.

I get the feeling of you can't do that (Smith, Rosario, and Cecchini), but with Flores and TJ as backups they have some veteran presence and if they can't trade Cabrera his option is a good price and he's really a good utility option.

if he wasn't so prickly about it.
While

I hate Vegas. Look at Plawecki (especially his H/A splits).

No clue why Cecchini isn't hitting (my guess being a Met it's probably injury related), but I'd still make him the favorite for 2B.
