Up 2 sets to zip.
It is going

To be a very entertaining Wimbeldon. With Federer looking this good, Nadal coming off another major, and Joker looking like he has recommitted himself, teaming with Agassi, then you have Murray the hometown favorite. I have followed this sport closely now for near 50 years, and this is the best men's tennis ever, by far. You have possibly the three greatest players of all time in Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal. I know we don't have an American up there right now, but you have got to marvel at the level of play right now.
Borg McEnroe

Connor hard to beat
don't forget Petey

Are not in these guys league, sorry to say. Borg maybe, that is it.
Pete
PaulN : 7/9/2017 9:07 am : link
Would not have beaten any of these three. If not for his serve he would not have been able to overcome Agassi. Pete was a one trick pony, all serve, these guys serve about as good as Pete, not quite, but close, but they have a much better all around game, Agassi was too short to have that serve to offset Pete. These three guys all do.
Paul you haven't a clue, I've coached tennis for 50
gtt350 : 7/9/2017 9:42 am : link
years, Pete had one of the best backhands of all time. he absolutely could hold his own with anyone
McEnroe in his prime could also play with anyone

I love Federer and did not like Sampras at all
Essex : 7/9/2017 9:41 pm : link
but Sampras was an amazing player. His serve was a killer, he had great net play, and could hit the groundies. I have no idea if he would have beaten these three or not, but to say he wouldn't compete is ridiculous.
Hard to compare eras
Andy in Halifax : 7/10/2017 12:52 pm : link
They hit the ball so much harder now, looking at old Sampras matches you'd think his groundies couldn't hold up, but I think Pete would have elevated his game to compete with today's players. I think Nadal gives him fits for the same reason he gives Fed fits but I still think Federer and Sampras are the top two players of all time.
This Muller-Nadal match
PaulBlakeTSU : 7/10/2017 3:01 pm : link
is incredible
Matches like this show the best and worst of Nadal.
Andy in Halifax : 7/10/2017 3:06 pm : link
Absolutely won't quit and gives EVERYTHING he has to win but excessive cellys & the showmanship to the crowd always turn people off. Amazing player, love his matches.
Nadal is relentless
PaulBlakeTSU : 7/10/2017 3:26 pm : link
but Muller has been cool as a cucumber all match.
Fun match.

Wimbledon's second week starts with a boom.
as a Fed fan
PaulBlakeTSU : 7/10/2017 3:37 pm : link
I was hoping Zverev could stave off Raonic. That's going to be a tough one for Roger.
Glad Muller won

That was a great match.

Milos just hasn't been on top form this year. Not enough practice time from injury. That serve is lethal and he's mentally very tough, but I don't think his game is what it was last year at all and Fed will roll in that match imo.

PaulBlakeTSU : 7/10/2017 3:54 pm : link
you would know better than I would. I haven't followed this season as much as I usually do. I just recall struggles Fed had with Raonic the last couple of years.

He's definitely struggled against him in recent memory. Milos has had a rocky few weeks though and Roger hasn't lost a set yet at Wimby. His serve has been amazing

Looking forward to a Fed/Nole semi on Friday.. which would be Novak's third match in 4 days with today's postponement. Advantage Fed.

Hey Andy!
Murray
PaulBlakeTSU : 7/12/2017 12:29 pm : link
goes down to American Sam Querrey. Didn't see the match, but to lose the 4th and 5th sets both 6-1 indicate that his hip prevented him from moving around the court.

Right now, Roger is demolishing Raonic. Took first two sets 6-4, 6-2. Fed looks so crisp out there. It is amazing what he continues to do at his age. Just a beautiful style of tennis.
Djokovic
PaulBlakeTSU : 7/12/2017 1:14 pm : link
retired due to injury.
I like how Murray
B in ALB : 7/12/2017 1:17 pm : link
really turned on the limp there at the end.
Fed
PaulBlakeTSU : 7/12/2017 1:27 pm : link
down 0-3 in the tiebreak, broken twice on serve, and he rattles off 5 straight points with a sick passing shot.

Wow, no Murray, Djokovic or Nadal.
Andy in Halifax : 7/12/2017 2:18 pm : link
Won't get any easier than this for Federer who shockingly has a reasonable chance at #1 this summer if he wins this week.

Cilic can get red hot when he's on his game, he is ridiculously talented but far from consistent. On any given day though, he can beat anyone. Not sure I see Berdych or Querrey having a shot to beat Fed.

Where's Stan at??

Andy, do you know the road to #1? I tried searching for it for a few minutes, but couldn't find anything. I know Murray will lose a bunch of points since he won Wimbledon last year though

Praying for #19 on Sunday Morning.
Hey.
Andy in Halifax : 7/12/2017 3:15 pm : link
Nadal and Murray will be very close after Wimbledon for #1. I think Murray will still be #1 by a slim margin. Nadal probably has a better shot at regaining #1 than Federer but if Federer manages to get it without playing the French or clay court season events it would be remarkable. I believe he'd be a thousand points off of #1 if he wins this week and of course he has no points to protect the rest of the season.

Nadal doesn't have a whole lot to protect either though so Fed will have to win another big event or two on top of winning Wimbledon. I think Cilic is a tough match though, so FAR from a guaranteed win. Murray has a shit load of points to protect the rest of the season so his fall from #1 is quite likely.

Murray and Nadal hold 1 and 2 respectively regardless, with Murray up by 285 points. Federer can close to 1,205 of #1 with a title, 2,005 with a finals loss, and is 2,485 behind through today's win. He has to win it all to move up from 5. Cillic passes Federer if he wins it all, but can't pass him as runner-up, even if Fed loses to Berdych.

Well, he's into the finals
Andy in Halifax : 7/14/2017 1:56 pm : link
but not sure he's playing any better than Cilic, who looks amazing as well.

I actually thought Berdych played phenomenal, but Fed didn't give him any cracks to exploit. Fed played the two breakers flawlessly and that proved the difference.

I think Sunday will be a fantastic tennis match. I'm looking forward to it. It will be Federer's 29th GS final appearance, which is beyond absurd.
I'd say he's playing better than Cilic over the whole tourney
Giants in 07 : 7/14/2017 2:12 pm : link
He hasn't dropped a set. Both looked shaky today though.

I think the fact that he didn't drop a set today shows how well he's playing. Berdych played very, very well in my opinion, especially in games where he fell behind and has a tendency to give up on. He wins one of those Tiebreakers and its game on.

11th Wimbledon final for Roger and turning 36 next month. There's no question now.. (I didn't think there was one before) He's the best tennis player of all time, and creeping towards joining the conversation of greatest athlete of all time in my opinion.
Amazing
Giants in 07 : 7/16/2017 11:46 am : link
Subpar match, but the right result

Blessed to have grown up watching this man and continue to see him amaze. I think he's the best athlete of all time and I would gladly take a bullet for him.

Fuck yes. 19!!
Simply amazing.
Andy in Halifax : 7/16/2017 3:28 pm : link
I kinda agree that he has to be in the discussion for best athlete of all time. Almost 36, won Wimbledon without dropping a set. His second major title of the year... unbelievable.
It has been an absolutely

joy to watch Roger over the last decade+. Just such a beautiful style of tennis: graceful, cunning, and masterful.
Roger just cemented his spot at the top...
