NFL

Brooks NFL.com: Star or system guy? Judging Ezekiel Elliott, Dak Prescott, more
In the wake of NFL Network's "Top 100 Players of 2017," I thought I would take a closer look at some notable players who made the cut:

STARS
"Janoris Jenkins, CB, New York Giants Age: 28 Top 100 rank: 54
Remember when everyone snickered at the Giants for signing Jenkins to a five-year, $62 million deal last offseason? I don't think anyone is laughing now, after seeing the fifth-year pro emerge as one of the league's top CB1s in his first season with the G-Men.
The 5-11, 198-pound cover corner held his own against premier receivers while showcasing a diverse game that allows him to fit into any scheme. As one of the few corners in the league who's equally effective in bump-and-run tactics and "off" coverage, Jenkins is capable of matching up with big or small receivers on the perimeter. He can offset big-bodied wideouts with his quickness, yet suffocate smaller receivers with his aggressive tactics at the line. In addition, Jenkins can also play as a "clue" corner and lean on his instincts to become a playmaker in zone coverage.
Given his diverse skills, disciplined approach and competitive spirit, Jenkins is quietly emerging as one of the elite playmakers on the island and opponents are starting to notice his impact potential as a CB1. I had an NFC scout tell me that Jenkins has always shown flashes of being a premier player, but "he finally took his game up a notch" in New York to cement his status as a lockdown corner. With three interceptions and 18 pass defenses against a who's who of wide receivers on the island (Dez Bryant, A.J. Greenand Antonio Brown, to name a few), Jenkins must be included in the discussion of the game's top cornerbacks."

You would think Shaun Draughn
bLiTz 2k : 7/8/2017 3:26 pm : link
is the odd man out when looking at the Running Back stable at face value...However, the Giants have to be a bit concerned about Shane Vereen's potential durability going into 2017.

The deal with Rainey was outright stated that he was signed as insurance for Vereen, and unfortunately they had to cash in on the investment.

Depending on what Gallman shows in camp, this could leave Darkwa as the odd man out. I thought Running Back was the biggest surprise in regards to the roster makeup week 1 last year...this year may prove to be just as interesting.

RB Draughn, good basic article and comparison to Rainey

It is Draughn or Dawkra as the 4th RB and special teams play is the difference maker.

I have no clue who will win out. I just know that special teams play will be the difference maker.

Sure, I've read the posts on the merits of carrying just 3 RB's this year. Maybe just 3 RB's, 3 TE's, and (gulp) FB Smith. Many possiblities, but it boils down to special teams ability AND possibly the diversity of formations that MaCaddoo may desire now that he has bodies that can block.

If Darkwa, Draugh were cut and LaCosse put on the PS, well whose going to work to pick them up? They could be Giants in quick order should injuries hit. I love this year's competition.
