As a Yankee fan you have to be pretty damned excited for this one tonight. Two Yankees - El Gary and Aaron Judge are in the contest. El Gary has a pretty big challenge facing off against the defending champ. And Judge is up against a powerful hitter in Justin Bour.
Wouldn't be surprised if more people are watching the HRD than the actual game tomorrow night.
Would love to see a Stanton vs Judge final (ideally, a Sanchez vs Judge final!).
Check out El Gary's custom bat he'll be using tonight.
Stanton - Sano
If any night would be the night for juice it would be tonight.
Seems a little homer-ific. An exciting player - but so is Giancarlo Stanton, who is playing in front of his homecrowd.
In fact - GS is probably the best comp to Judge.
Its a fair point.
By the way, Miami in mid July... players cant be enjoying this. wonder if they even try to open up the dome / left field windows tonight... always 50/50 rain is coming in sideways this time of year and its muggy as hell.
Classic - ( New Window )
Lulzzzzzzzzzz
Yeah but Logan Morrison isn't there. Whatever will MLB and the fans do without him?
By the way I didn't think much of Stanton's season this year - but turns out he does have 26 HRs playing a cavernous pitchers park vs Judge in a bit of a bandbox. They're both freak specimens - its not an insult to compare Judge to Stanton.

Yeah, the players couldn't enjoy the whopping 3° difference right now. Way to hot for baseball!
Anyways, I'll be supporting both Judge and Sanchez from right field tonight. Should be a good time if my son and I can withstand the air conditioning.
6-0 230 Moustakas
6-2 230 Sanchez
6-4 210 Bellinger
6-4 249 Bour
6-4 260 Sano
6-6 245 Stanton
6-7 282 Judge

You're literally the first person on the planet to insinuate that Judges HRs are helped by playing in a "bandbox". Absolutely ridiculous. This guy hits moon shots all over the field and has also been robbed of another HR on a terrible call.
And the only person taking insult to compare Judge to Stanton was Stanton. Not the fans
.Mets fans trying throw cold water on Yankees fans enthusiasm is a bad look.
I'm glad they no longer limit the participants to All Stars because for years I thought guys like Adam Dunn and Mark Reynolds should always be in the Derby but they never were because they didn't make the ASG.
Obviously I'm pulling for Sanchez and Judge, but I'm most excited to see Judge, Stanton, and Sano hit absolute moon shots.

Bandbox? The guy hits bombs to all fields especially CF and LF.
Mets fan throwing some shade?
A fact since 1923.
The same conclusions apply to the new Stadium even with different exact dimensions
Totally Bill. Gary is going to press.
Where did you see that? MLB Channel?

And he just hit the roof.

Just switched - missed it.
Hope it doesn't throw off his swing. Probably doesn't need to try - just normal swing.
Bandbox? What the fuck?
Why is Pit bull wearing a low cut jersey like that? Is that to show off his love handles?
Was just laughing about this in a group text- we couldn't decide if it was a youth jersey or a women's jersey. Definitely was not mens.

is wearing a womens jersey, jesus christ

100% womens. The low cut, and very small letters are the easy giveaway. The youth sizes jerseys are obviously small, but they arent low cut and dont have small letters like that
At this place we're here to midnight.

And the batting gloves didn't make the look any better
Was just about to post that. Yikes
Very blatant.
Fucking clown
Fucking clown
Haha. Yes!
Fucking clown
Thinking the same thing. Guess Sanchez did belong in the Derby!
Yeah that was some pretty blatant hometown clock fuckery going on. But El Gary was just too good
haha!
And he'll be jamming Mrs. Bellinger a little bit later on. Not a bad night.
I thought for sure that was Ann Coulter!
Bandbox like Yankee Stadium.
Judge has his work cut out for him.
House money this year. I'm just enjoying the hell out of watching these guys blossom.
Seriously. He was fucking awful, especially in the first 2 minutes.
And he did it with Val really shitting the bed.
100%. Baseball is loving this. And they all seem like really good guys too (we know Judge sure is)
Hahahahaha!
Judge has his work cut out for him.
Did you miss it? Judge just beat him with 23 HRs (well he hit 24 but one hit the roof and that's apparently not a HR)
This is a good one lol
I think Giancarlo is pretty jealous, and fairly so...he goes often unnoticed in Miami, while Judge has gotten more media love in 3 months than Stanton has in his career.

Great job by Bour.

Haha. What?
Didn't see but that roof one would've pressed 600 ft
Hahahaha

Sorry, my browser was behind and thought your post was after Judge had gone and than realized after I posted.
Meh, hometown boys squawking. They hear what they want to hear.
Not me, Giancarlo seems like a likable guy as well as a great player. Just feel like a couple times I've heard him asked about Judge he's sounded a little envious of the attention Judge is getting, while he plays to empty parks in Miami
Yep, big guy with a smooth swing. A bit sloppy compared to Judge and Stanton both of whom actually look thin.
He really relies on his lower and back half to generate power. He likely is spent and requires more time to recover from the first half of the season than someone who DHs or stands in the outfield.
Shit
It's unbelievable.
Like mantle..i think this kid is going to hit one out of Yankees stadium before all said and done
thrilling event to watch. I anticipated sort of a junk sports kind of deal but it has been entertaining
He has fun. He's good for baseball.
Yes and Bellinger was laughing saying he misses it and still hits it out....
I saw Mantle play a lot. I've told others that Judge hits HRs like Mickey. Hi and deep
Mantle hit more parabolas. Most Hr hitter do. Kingman hit moonshots. Judge hits a very fast line drive that rises and takes off for a long time then drops sharply.
I remember the Mick hitting one out on a check swing.
Ex hitter Fernando Tatis

People forget about Kingman. He wasn't a great all around ballplayer but he was like Judge in terms of being somewhat of a physical freak. I was at the Stadium once when Kingman hit a ball out of the old Stadium - it was foul, but it was about 2/3 of the way down the left field line. That was impressive.
Hold on to your tits.
You are so right. Mantle in the 50s and 60s. Judge now.
Sano got it on his very last swing.
Jesus. Everyone expected him to put on a show and he did that and then some
That was the best head-to-head HR matchup ever (Bour vs. Judge)
Quote:
put on a show, posted a huge number, Judge still went out and beat him.

Bour kinda gets screwed by the rules. But he put on a show.
Wasn't a big fan of the HR Derby, but that was fun. Good show by those guys. And you could tell Judge was in the best shape out of all of them. Sano was completely spent. Bour looked to be in the 2nd best shape. Even El Gary was spent.
Bellinger was a bit "small" and had to use everything he had.
For a rookie in NY, very impressive
Now to be like Jeter in this respect he has to do it 19.5 more years.
That to me was the amazing thing about Jeter. Interviewed by about 20 guys before and after every game pre season, season and post season...and no one remembers a thing he said
Same is unfolding as true with Judge.
I wonder if those guys are talking on the DL and DJ is his under the table mentor. Wouldn't be surprised.
Caught up with an old buddy over the 4th who's the quintessential masshole Red Sox fan...and even he conceded he's been checking out Judge highlights and that he's really hard to dislike
as someone said above - ESPN cut away from some balls that they must have assumed were pop-ups, but then the "HR" number went up by one.
Same is unfolding as true with Judge.
I wonder if those guys are talking on the DL and DJ is his under the table mentor. Wouldn't be surprised.
LOL -- the same can be said of Reese!

College guy. Easy going. Yes, he must have gone to the Derek Jeter School of Linguistics and Accountability.
I like that Judge walked away. He doesn't need his ego fed.
If it were in Bandbox Stadium in front of the hometown fans he would have been hitting 250 foot home runs at will according to a Mets fan on the board.
I like that Judge walked away. He doesn't need his ego fed.
This.
Yeah we go to work on some things
just gonna concentrate and play better
I have to play better next week
guys played good
our guys fought for it
great catch
xxx was running hard
endless non answers for endless years.
Some of these guys like Jeter and Like Eli and hopefully like Judge can stay on message for years. Yet politicians cant go a six month campaign without open mouth and insert foot even with all the preparation they get. Its so hard to do. News Broadcasters make more mistakes per nine months than Jeter did. Heck the Queen made more mistakes reading 12 speeches per year than Jeter did ad libbing 200 games a year
Through all his great accomplishments, probably his best was spending 20+ years in the brightest lights of NYC and literally never doing or saying remotely the wrong thing. Seriously who can you think of that accomplished that?
Nice work dad.
Of course we don't really know if Judge is bi-racial since he was adopted. Jeter would have been 17 when Judge was born of course. In the unlikely event Jeter got someone pregnant when he was 17 good chance they would have been too young to raise the kid themselves.
Wouldn't it be the craziest story of all times if Judge ended up being Jeter's biological son?

Good job.

to bed. I had to step in and be the responsible Dad and explain to her that he will never remember his tired day at camp tomorrow, but will remember this night for a loooong time...besides me thinks there will be a ton of 9-10 year olds dragging at camp tomorrow...
Nice work dad.
Good work. My dad dragged me and my sister out of bed once upon a time to watch Buster Douglas knock out Mike Tyson. We joke about it to this day.
Kid is completely fired up.
Kid is completely fired up.
That's great to hear. If he goes there, he'll never regret it. Same is probably true for Syracuse though haha.
