Bryce was saying that the layers should hold a draft so he could face Scherzer and other teammates meet. It's not a bad idea, although didn't some other sport do that before? I can't remember. Harper's All-Star Game ideas - ( New Window )
First thing first, they should stop making this game mean something because players and coaches don't play the game like it decides something very important.

ehh I dont know about that for baseball. Seemed like they played hard last year.

this was the only ASG I was interested in. In the 70s and 80s, they played hard and the two leagues seemed to not like each other. A lot of that likely had to do with FA only being in the early stages and there was a lot less player movement, especially for stars.
Now, I am barely interested and even less so in the HR derby and all the other crap before the game.
ASG can't be like the old days where all of the stars played, they played hard, and they played all or most of the game.
Now, many stars pull out for injury (they don't need the recognition), the games are decided late by 8th string alternates, and voting starts two weeks into the season.
and I wouldn't mind seeing other lineup changes like what Harper suggests or North America vs the world. Mixing things up on occasion seems like it would be fun. Also, Gary Sanchez v Logan Morrison in a cage match during the 7th inning stretch. Obviously.
I'm ok with that. Adult fans know it doesn't mean much, but its a chance to have a little fun, and kids really love it. My 7yr old son can't get enough of it. From the talk around which players are in, to the derby, to the game tonight, it is a very special event for him. I assume other kids feel the same way. And thats all it needs to be.
began when they stopped playing it like a MLB game and started playing it like a Little League game, where everybody has to get in. So you'd get to a key moment, like the game on the line in the 9th, and you'd have the two last guys on the roster facing each other and zzzzzzzzz.
Ted Williams hit a walk-off HR in the 9th in 1941. Rose collided with Fosse in the 12 (Neither started, but both came into the game in the 5th.) I lost interest in the game because they gave up on having moments like that.

It no longer determines HFA
