Tough Road Trip to begin 2nd half
EddieNYG : 7/12/2017 8:42 am : link
Yankees play 11 games in 10 days from July 14-23. It begins with a 4 game Friday/Saturday/Sunday in Boston (day/night doubleheader Sunday). Than they head to Minnesota for a 3 game set and finish in Seattle with a four game set.

Not exactly an easy task for a team that is struggling and hasn't won a series since early June. They haven't won back-to-back games since June 11 and 12 in Baltimore.

With inconsistent starting pitching and a bull pen blowing games left and right, it will be interesting to see how the Yankees do this weekend in Boston.

Sounds like Castro and Holliday will be back this weekend, so that is good news.

I'm at Fenway Friday night

I saw that they moved Carter out again. Who is replacing him on the roster? I also can't see where Girardi has named a pitcher for Friday night.

We need a good series to stay in touch for the second half.

I think Holliday is back.

As of yesterday, they also cut Carter.
Hopefully Holliday and Castro can make a huge difference

I mean most of last week Chase Headley was hitting in the top 5. CHASE HEADLEY. Those 2 guys lengthen the lineup considerably. It will all come down to SP and the back end of the pen. If they do their jobs the past few weeks we would have weathered this and still been in 1st.
Hopefully

Yankees can right the ship with Castro and Holliday coming back. Also, don't forget, CC and Warren JUST came back before the break so their impact hasn't really been felt yet.

Frazier has played well but Hicks would be a HUGE addition to the lineup as well. Despite missing so much time, he's still 7th among MLB OF in WAR. Apparently still no timetable on his return.

Trade deadline will be interesting. Not sure they'll add a SP, but they'll definitely be in the running for RP and/or 1B

June for Hicks...

was respectable, but it was a regression from his April/May, seemingly the impact of his running into the tight end playing right field.

least they will be done with the West coast trips for the season after playing in Seattle.
They need at least one reliable reliever and another starter
Greg from LI : 7/12/2017 11:51 am : link
I'm starting to warm to the idea of bringing up Adams to shore up the pen in the second half since he's probably going to have inning limit issues by August anyway.

he could fill the long relief role nicely. They need a strong LR guy to come in when Tanaka and Pinata don't make it out of the 3rd inning.
It will be good to get Holiday and Castro Back
Jim in Tampa : 7/12/2017 12:28 pm : link
Hopefully the recent play of Castro's replacements (while he was out) will at least table all the "Castro sucks" talk until the off season.

The Yanks missed his bat in the lineup.

agree!!
they missed his April bat

His inevitable regression has already begun - .250/.244/.275 in his last ten games before the injury, with 13 Ks and 0 BBs. Relying on him over the long haul is a dicey proposition.
he was also hurt.He had a bad wrist that he played through for a month

make that 6 weeks
Victor in CT : 7/12/2017 12:46 pm : link
Castro had a cortisone shot in his wrist Saturday, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Yankees manager Joe Girardi revealed that this discomfort in Castro's wrist that preceded the shot has lasted about six weeks, and the second baseman is not in the lineup Sunday. Right now, it's unknown if Castro will miss extended time or continue to play through the pain. The 27-year-old is hitting .315 in 311 plate appearances this season, and his .295 average in June, including five home runs and 17 RBI this month, did not suggest that he was playing hurt.

He has played 8 years with 59 career HRs (20 of them in the first half). I'm not giving up anything special for that.

Justin Bour is worth investing in. He could be the DH full-time if Greg Bird comes back and lives up to expectations. He could also play 1B well enough that he could be the 1B if Bird doesn't pan out. Imagine Sanchez, Judge, Bour and Bird in the middle of the lineup!

But if the Yankees don't want to give up what it would take to get Bour (and I have no clue what it would be but it won't be cheap), than I'd rather them look at Lucas Duda as a one year rental than Yonder Alonso.

Here is a link. Bird is hopeful to start another rehab assignment at SWB soon (I'll believe it when I see it). In other news, Castro to start rehab in Trenton on Thursday, and hopes to be back sometime during the Bosox series.

Did you forget about Holliday? He is the full time DH.

No I did not forget about him. Holliday is 37 years old. He will be 38 next year. I'm thinking about the future with a Bour trade, not just this year.

If we want someone for just this year, I'd rather get Duda than Alonso.

I doubt they'll be getting him for what the Marlins will want. Seems to be an ok player with good pop, but they are not restocking Miami's farm system when this year is a bonus. Yes Cashman said he'd be looking at SP and 1st baseman, but they really need to see what Bird is doing before they give up on him.
Meantime Holliday is playing great and could be more than a one year guy.
put me in the category
RasputinPrime : 7/12/2017 5:52 pm : link
that wants no part of another left-handed power hitter who uses half the field. The game has changed and we haven't changed our stadium. There isn't enough field in RF to suit up players like Bour. He also isn't a rare enough player to warrant what the Marlins want.

Get Bird healthy asap.
