Of the four left Fed was the only one who dominated today. It's all set up for him with all the big names out, but does it really matter who's on the other side of the net? Fed's tearing it up, and that advanced tennis age of 35? Still at the very top of his sport? Leading the charge of all the 30+s who are taking over the game. Amazing athlete. I just love watching his all-court game, he's never boring like all the base liners out there (you know who you are). Fed's got every shot in the book while also inventing some along the way, and he does it all with flair and elegance and class. Simply amazing.
Rooting for a Fed-Querrey final.
Something of a light has gone on for Querrey, he seems more relaxed. But I don't think he has the game to get past Cilic. Cilic seems really motivated right now. Let's hope Sam gives him a good fight.
Can't see Berdych standing up to Fed right now, but I stopped predicting sporting events a long time ago.
I think I am right about this, a player born in 1989 or later has not yet won a grand slam. The generation after Nike/Rafa (fed being a few years older) just stunk. Cilic and Del Potro (both born in 88)have had their moment, but Cilic has been inconsistent and suspended for doping. Del Porto might have been a great but for injuries. But Raonic, Monfils, Dimitrov, Nashokori have all been huge disappointments.
Cilic and Querrey have had some epic matches, though not since 2012. Sure would be nice to see an American male step up to the plate in a big spot, and play big. It's been a while.
I admittedly haven't seen much of Muller before catching most of the Nadal match, but that was a lot of fun to watch - to your point, in large part bc of the contrast in styles. Saw some brilliant net play in the little bit of the Querrey win over Murray I saw this morning too
