NFT: Is Bose back? bluetooth speaker recommendation

pjcas18 : 7/12/2017 2:25 pm
there was a period of time when Bose was IMO the unquestioned leader in speakers and speaker related tech.

now they seem like an after thought.

In this case though I think they're making a comeback.

I have been through a ton of bluetooth speakers the past 5 years or so. Looking for something to use outdoors that gets loud enough to slightly piss off the neighbors (if I want to) but also have the sound quality they can hear every word and note of the music that's pissing them off. As well as to be portable enough to take to the beach, camping, or any place else really that I want it.

So I have been through:

Jawbone Jambox (first one I had - amazed me when I got it thought it couldn't get any better than this, when I listen to it now it's awful)

Jawbone Big Jambox
UE Boom
UE Roll
UE Megaboom
JBL Extreme
Bose Soundlink
and several other cheaper options from Sony and others.

this Bose model: the Soundlink Revolve plus is SOOO far beyond all of them crystal clear sound, loud as hell and lighter than most stays charged a long time and is water resistant (as are many now).

the only drawback is the one they all share, bluetooth has a limited range, but that's no issue for me. Plus the charger cradle was extra.

anyway, I know the topic comes up every now and then, so thought I'd share my opinion on this device.

Bought a Bose Soundlink probably 6-7 years ago, thing is still as good as the day I bought it.

I also have the Soundlink Mini Color version, which was like $120 and bangs for a little speaker. That is about 3 or so years old and still going strong as well. Never had any connection or pairing issues like I have in my car bluetooth system.
the Soundlink

absolutely blasts, if its for a party under 100 people, that is all you will need.

great ratings on amazon. Easily the loudest bluetooth speaker I've heard. Brought it to a concert tailgate this weekend and was dissapointed when it died after about 4 hours on max volume. Not sure if I had unrealistic expectations or what. While it was playing it was fantastic.

I'm continuing to look on the web for it's replacement. something that it very loud, portable, and has a long battery life.

Anker - best bang for the buck

Not close in sound quality to the Bose, I like the battery life and the price, but if money is no issue it's not close.
I'm no audiophile, but I know a few

and I think they'd bust out laughing at the site of this:

Bose was always considered a nice but massively overpriced speaker whose marketing outpaced it's engineering.

Go to bestbuy and listen to the Bose Revolve plus see if it's loud enough - for me it is, it has lasted easily 10 hours at a Memorial Day cookout I had. the party went longer but I had to plug my phone in so I just plugged both in, but felt like it could have lasted longer if I didn't plug it in.

it wasn't at max volume. I have cool neighbors, and I know I said I wanted something loud enough to piss them off (a little) but max volume would have probably had the cops at my house.

we have a Sonos and it's great

Well I'm no audiophile either, but they are a customer of mine and many Bose engineers used to be on my hockey team.

So I used to get to see some behind the scenes stuff.

Also, when we pitched our software to them we did so in a stadium style auditorium at their HQ and the studio we were in was all wireless microphone enabled and I was on a stage and there was no lapel mic or anything else, i just turned the build in microphones on and the entire auditorium style room could hear every word I said. Cool stuff.

anyway, I don't care if audiophiles bust out laughing at it, like I said it was my opinion and based on the products I've experienced I believe it to be true.
Love Anker....

Have a bunch of their products. Love them.
BT is a great technology,
Section331 : 7/12/2017 3:51 pm : link
and makes portable music much easier, but I would NEVER spend the kind of money some manufacturers charge (cough...Bose...cough). The technology itself, even if it has improved markedly over the past 2 years, does not lend itself to good sound.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't utilize it, I use my BT speakers all the time, but I wouldn't pay more than $50 for it, certainly not upwards of $200.

Bose, UE, JBL, etc. all charge roughly the same price for their best models. and there is a quality difference from the $50 bluetooth speakers to the more expensive ones in many cases. What each person is willing to spend is certainly up to them.

IMO Bose quality on their latest device outshines them all.

no one has to buy anything they don't want to, I had been down on Bose, especially their bluetooth speakers, for a while.

With the Bose Soundlink Revolve Plus I feel like, and I did a fair amount of empirical research, is the best right now.

Just sharing my opinion, if people don't want to buy it I am not offended and I will lose no money (or sleep over it).

Speakers are a great speaker, that is what I own. I never really have liked Bose at all and always thought all their money went into advertising, but they have a Bose Solo sound bar that is a very good speaker and at a very nice price. My brother and my daughter both have one and they love it, I have heard it and I am impressed.

What's the difference between the one that costs 199 and the 299 cost? They look the same to me

12 hours vs 16 hours of battery life, and I believe slightly better sound quality and I know the + ($299) is water resistant, not sure of the resolve non plus ($199)
Soundlink Mini is terrific
trueblueinpw : 7/12/2017 7:41 pm : link
Got the Soundlink a few years ago and it's a very solid little piece. I keep it in the garden shed for use in the backyard, cooking out, whatever. We bring it to the beach and on vacation when we rent a ski or beach house. Super portable, plenty loud and the sound is - for better or worse - typical Bose. My brother has the bigger Soundlink and he uses that out by his pool for parties. Also plenty loud and sounds very good. Can't really miss for the money.
I bought the Bose pictured above for my son's birthday.
Giant John : 7/12/2017 10:50 pm : link
Thing rocks. Great sound. Friend dropped it in a pool. Stopped workin. They gave him a new one. Beat that!
