it is silly season but players, particularly prominent players, should stay silent.
The Cowboys will be a target this year, from everyone. They are certainly a good offensive team but no one has any idea what their defense will be like. Marinelli is a very good coordinator but, at some point, you need players and they don't have any yet. They have no pass rushers and a lot of what they do is scheme...it is not based on talent. Sooner or later, usually sooner, that fails.
All this stuff means nothing as it is so dependent on health and the game being played on the field. Prescott is going into his second year, teams now have a year of film on him and many QBs have regressed in their second year as a result. Ex. Robert Griffin. Further, Witten is older and will begin to decline at some point or get hurt. If anyone on the offensive line gets hurt, they are screwed because they have no depth.
Plus the Cowboys are the world's biggest frontrunners...if things don't go well early, look out.
If each team is at relative full health on opening night, this has all the makings of a beatdown.
Eli loves that building and Dallas is going to be marching out a patchwork secondary against him with Beckham, Marshall, SS and Engram to deal with?
Our defensive front is one of a few in the league that can win individual physical matchups along that offensive line.
Prescott comes back to earth a bit in year 2, but in all honesty, last year was never about him.
Good luck.
I wouldn't bet on it.
I think the Giants have beaten Dallas by more than 1 score just two times in the last decade.
I don't doubt that the Giants can win this game - but I've seen far too many NFCE games over the years to ever think we're going to steamroll anyone. Especially the Cowboys. These games are almost always close. Especially the way the teams are constructed now.
He is a young guy. I think the Giants should win the game but one concern I have is that it always seems that the Giants offense has not been running on all cylinders until about 3 or 4 games into the season. At least for the last 5 or 6 seasons.
Defense is arguably the best unit in the entire league.
Offense has been revamped. Guys like Perkins and Shep look to make big leaps in year 2. 1st round talent in Engram. The OL is a bit of a question mark but there is ALOT of competition lined up for camp, including some young guys.
I think the Giants are winning minimum 12 this year.
The first game against the cowturds is huge! Win and the Giants Â
They have always been a team that plays to the level of their competition and games are always closer than they should be, that is Giants football as long as I have known it.
I also think its way to early to say we match up so much better than them, right now yeah we do, but can we get through training camp and pre-season first. Hopefully Wellman keeps this team as healthy as he did last year, if so, then the arrow is certainly pointing up. I predict Dallas may not even achieve a wildcard berth, I think Wentz outperforms Prescott this year, and while the whole NFC East has tough opponents, Dallas has to face the Packers and the Falcons this year, two teams that will have their way with that defense.
game against the Lions was a disgrace, yet what most people remember is that the Cowboys were "unfairly" bounced the following week on the Dez catch that was ruled correctly an incompletion.I heard it just referenced again last week when they were talking about Romo's legacy:
"You never know if Romo wouldn't have gotten a ring if they didn't have the controversial finish against GB".
Bullshit. Romo's legacy would be a measly 1 playoff win if they called the Lions game right.
The flag was waved off on this play. It wasn't even close. It was an obvious call, and could have been defensive holding as well. Look at Hitchens' reaction - he knew what he did. Link - ( New Window )
because when the Cowboys fail miserably, the shine will be off the star. For as good as the O-Line may be, the defense SUCKS and they are relying on a bunch of rookies to fix it. Comedy.

Bernie, you're experienced enough as a fan to know the shine never leaves the star..Media darlings
the cowboys are clearly a worse team than last season Â
Just a reminder

That was also the play where Dez ran onto the field without a helmet to argue the call and wasn't flagged. So you had a couple of things going on - a flag for PI picked up and a player leaving the bench coming onto the field of play.
Such a bullshit series of events. Directly responsible for the loss
Not saying we blow them out, but I think the Giants win. Just my opinion.
Me too Dave. I don't know if a blowout will happen... but I can't help but feel the team is going to win pretty comfortably... by like 14-17 points... and I rarely feel this confident before a game (especially vs a division opponent).
back to back successful seasons, shall we? How dumb can some be to assume this is a natural progression for him and thus the Cowboys? How many second-year crash and burns have we witnessed over the last ten years? No expectations, no pressures. Every year the same old shit, Dallas is great and Philly is better. Book this, Davis Webb is going to be a better QB than Wentz, possibly Prescott! We'll see when the fanbase gets riled (and they will) and how each deals with it! Choke on that fly Eagles fly! What a horseshit franchise/city.
I'm thrilled we no longer have to deal with Romo..
I agree...Romo could string together a half and rip your heart right out. I have to think we are going to see Dak take a step backwards this season as teams get a handle on his style of play.
for a few seasons now and with that patchwork secondry against the like of obj, marshall, shep and engram i can see the giants getting off to a fast start week 1 against them i expect engram scores an early touchdown in that game when they stick a rookie on engram and he shows them his size and speed down that seam for a score, obj always scores a td or two against them and marshall gets one in the redzone
agreed they have had the cowboys in trouble and havent capitalised when they did in the past but this offence looks the best they had since that 2007 team possibly better depending on engram and i just dont see the cowboys offence troubling the giants defence enough either
you get ahead of this cowboys team they cant score quickly or force play with their defence either you get up on them you knock them out of the running the ball they are very beatable. i think everyone in the division improved their offences dallas is in for a heavy bump in my opinion no other team would get the plaudits this cowboys team is getting
especially with all the suspensions on the front 7 and the loss of so many starters in the secondry they are asking too much of the rookie DB's they drafted early in the season at least. they got off to a good start last year, the real test will be if they lose a few games in a row early and the calls for romo to come back from the booth start to pile on extra pressure then we will see if dak is upto the task once the heat is on or not he never had that last year
If each team is at relative full health on opening night, this has all the makings of a beatdown.
Eli loves that building and Dallas is going to be marching out a patchwork secondary against him with Beckham, Marshall, SS and Engram to deal with?

Prescott comes back to earth a bit in year 2, but in all honesty, last year was never about him.

Couldn't agree more ... as is, the Giants match up absolutely perfectly with Dallas and now Engram/Marshall on offense ...
Having said that, the Giants have routinely made my Sunday's a lot more aggravating then a originally anticipate going into a game soooo ... while I will not be betting on the Giants, on paper - the Giants should win this game. I don't see any "strength" on Dallas that isn't countered by the Giants ... nor do I see anyway their defense matches up with this offense's potential
If things come together accordingly, Giants could very well blow them out. I fully expect them to win, whether it's by 1 or by 21 remains to be seen.
The Dallas Cowboys have won THREE playoff games since 1995... we're talking over 20 years.
Never has so much publicity been given to a team that has accomplished so little over a two decade period.
The only thing that comes close is the Notre Dame football team!
there are very few things more annoying than "die hard" Cowboys/Notre Dame fan - especially ones that live in the tri-state area (being a cowboy fan is bad enough)
The flag was waved off on this play. It wasn't even close. It was an obvious call, and could have been defensive holding as well. Look at Hitchens' reaction - he knew what he did. Link - ( New Window )
I still think the Lions would have Lionsed their way to a loss even if that call had been made. That's just what they do.
A non-Lions team, for example, would have either converted the ensuing 4th and 1 or kicked a punt that traveled further than 10 yards.
Cowboys again and again, winning the offseason and media awards before the season begins.
Just how did the Cowboys "win the offseason"? They lost a half a dozen starters in FA and their draft wasn't any better than average. Win the offseason? Their offseason sucked.
As far as the Boys OL 2/5th's will be new personnel. The ones who play in front of JPP and Harrison. Whiten is a year older and last year he didn't light it up against the Giants. Neither did Dez find much success against Jenkins. Running out a combination of rookies and first yr. starters against Beckham. Marshall, Shepard and Engram is just asking for trouble. If the Giants step off with a running game watch out it won't be close.
The Cowboys have a decent team but not as complete as the Giants. Last season the weaknesses were the OL and TE group. Well the TE corp has has a talent infusion, the OL has members that have dedicated themselves to improve all off seasons. The running backs will be quicker to the hole with quick latter motion and cut back ability.
The preseason will be telling, and I expect will surprise many. While the Giants are adding pieces to the roster, Dallas is rebuilding their Defense. With the time it takes to Gel in the NFL, the first Game against established elite playmakers is not a favorable scenario. Dak will be on his horse trying to avoid the Giants D, Zeke will be contained while the Giants will exploit the favorable match-ups against the the inexperienced secondary.

reading this thread makes me love the Cows so much more. Just think about it, if Dak was even a bit humble or self effacing, would we all be looking forward so much to the first season game. If all the commentators, instead of pumping up the Cows, took considered positions that reflected that the Giants took them out 2-0 last year, and are likely to have a much stronger offense this year, would we not have just a bit less desire to see the G-Men trample them. Doesn't the rush to predict another dominant year for the steers, warm up the blood of Giant fans just a bit? I know mine is nearly boiling. Instead of boring us the Cows and their hypesters just keep putting fuel on the fire. Thank you Cows, you are just making it so hard for us to feel even a bit of sympathy when Eli gets to write again on your locker room wall.

I hope he trash talks more. I want to hate the guy because it makes for more fun viewing and I kinda don't so far (never hated Romo either).
God I hate waiting for prime time week 1. Yet again.
Look at years past when the Redskins were terrible and they would beat the Cowboys, mainly on the strength of a rushing attack.
I never count divisional wins as locks or blowouts.
Lets not act like Redskin fans. This will be a close game. Its a divisional game and Dallas, like it or not, is a good team.

Shepard? 8 TDs as a rookie ... left open while Marshall/Engram/Odell draw all the attention?
Marshall? I love a nice goal line fade every now and then ...
Beckham? Decent bet to score everytime the ball is in his general direction ...
Perkins? Does he become a household name as soon as Week 1?
Sean Lee can't cover all of them by himself.
