He could fuck up a one car funeral. If the Knicks got a guy like LeBron, they would still even screw that up, probably by never getting anything around him.
They have zero plan or direction. Worst run franchise in all of sports by a wide margin.
this moron running things, they don't feel the need to inform their fans. So much initial promise what with the early reports of Leiweke and Masai and Griffin. And now it's back to amateur hour.
the problem is that the people that go to the games, don't care about whats good for the team. They care about that night and having a good time that night. They aren't the diehard fans.
For example, everyone on bbi knew that we were better off losing games late last season, but the home games were nuts. Fans were going ballistic when we were winning. It was like the KNicks were in the Finals. A Knicks game is an event in the city and that hurts the team when the owner only cares about money.

A source told the Daily News that one of Griffins requests was to remove Houston, who has been with the Knicks as a player or an executive for the majority of the last 20 years. With Dolans support as one of the owners all-time favorite players (remember that $100 million contract extension), Houston rapidly ascended in New Yorks front office and many believe hes being groomed as the next GM under Mills.

ignorance here but why would Houston be such a bad hire?
Houston is widely considered to be a mouthpiece and pawn for Dolan and has little respect of people in the NBA. Even former Knicks who played with him aren't happy with the way he totes the party line while being part of a sinking ship.
a major beatwriter and I had a DM conversation and I said
"The best will be taking the best fit for the triangle and not the best player "Kennard is the perfect fit for the triangle" Phil leaves in a year with Houston taking over. Wonderful lol" and his response-
I might feel bad for Phil Jackson. No matter what he owns the triangle mess and Rambis so that's on him.
Anything else though, who really knows what he was dealing with over there on a daily basis, could have been micromanagement, back-stabbing, power grabs. Who knows?
All we know now is that the couple of guys next in line put themselves in the big seat after Phil leaves. It's a soap opera.
starting the think the Knicks might just have a plan; set into a course of many stupid franchise crippling moves so that the fan base comes to terms that giving up multiple first round picks for Ujiri is the right move; only to have Ujiri fired before he has a chance to make a first round pick.
at least when the fail (and we know they will) and dolan gets antsy he will have to fire one or both of them.
True. But remember it almost took an alien invasion for Dolan to fire Isaiah, despite watching him turn the franchise into an embarrassment on and off the court.

BA executive career[edit]
Perry was hired as a front office executive for the Detroit Pistons by President Joe Dumars in June 2000. As a member of their executive team, Perry assisted in building a roster that went to six Eastern Conference Finals appearances (2003-2008), two Eastern Conference Championships (2004, 2005) and the 2004 NBA Championship.
Afterward, Perry served as the assistant general manager for the Seattle SuperSonics (now Oklahoma City Thunder) for one season (200708).[3] He was part of the front office staff that drafted Kevin Durant to the Sonics/Thunder in the first round with the second overall pick. He then returned to the Pistons to become vice president of basketball operations from 2008 to 2012.[2]
On June 25, 2012, Perry was hired by Orlando Magic General Manager Rob Hennigan to become Hennigan's vice president and assistant general manager.[1] ESPN basketball analyst and former NBA player Chauncey Billups spoke highly of Perry as the assistant General Manager of the Magic, saying, "I love Scott Perry in the front office."[4][5]
In his time in Orlando, Perry helped draft Victor Oladipo (2013), Aaron Gordon and Elfrid Payton (2014), and Mario Hezonja (2015) in Orlando.
On April 21, 2017 Perry was hired to be the Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Sacramento Kings.

On April 21, 2017 Perry was hired to be the Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Sacramento Kings.
The Kings hired Perry, who has 17 NBA seasons of front office experience with the Detroit Pistons, Seattle SuperSonics and Orlando Magic, on April 21. The former Wayne State guard previously served as vice president with the Pistons for four seasons and with the Magic for the past five before being relieved of his duties in April. The former Eastern Kentucky head basketball coach was in the Pistons front office when they advanced to six consecutive Eastern Conference finals and won an NBA championship in 2004. Perry also served as the SuperSonics assistant general manager during the 2007-08 season and was on the staff that drafted Kevin Durant second overall in 2007.
While Divac remains in his role as general manager, Perry will have a strong influence on basketball personnel decisions. The first major task for Perry with the Kings will be the heralded 2017 NBA draft. This draft is expected to be one of the best in years, with such prospects as Washington guard Markelle Fultz, Kentucky guard DeAaron Fox, UCLA guard Lonzo Ball and Kansas swingman Josh Jackson.
This is a very promising draft. There could be some very good young talent in this draft. But as the case is with many drafts, so much of it depends on where certain players end up and how they fit in their respective environment to maximize their growth and development, Perry said.
Its complicated, but the Kings will likely have two lottery selections in the NBA draft on June 22. Sacramento has its own pick with the eighth-best odds for the first selection at 2.8 percent, but if the selection is higher than the Philadelphia 76ers, then the latter has the right to swap per a past trade. The Kings also have the New Orleans Pelicans selection via the Cousins trade if its outside the top three protected picks. Link - ( New Window )
Fox, Jackson, Giles (lottery ticket), Mason III, great draft. Hill contract was a value addition. Not sure how much was Perry but the Kings off-season has been very solid.
Perry is well regarded around the league from what I've heard. But he just got to Sacramento. Pretty strange move but I guess because it's a promotion he would be able to leave. It still blows having Mills on top though. Rumors were Masaii, Presti, Griffin and now this?
I know someone who use to work for the Knicks. He described Houston's reputation as pretty poor. Was not impressive at all in his basketball acumen. His words were a lot harsher but I'll leave it at that. As others have mentioned, look how long he's worked there and never got a sniff for an interview with another team. I mean Mark Hughes, who is seemingly under Houston on the power tree, has garnered interest and interviews from other teams. Tells you everything.
Can't Houston just join LJ and Starks as "ambassadors" for the Knicks?
was undermined and he wasn't able to follow his vision. Nobody ever is when it comes to the Knicks. It's a mess.
Don't feel bad for Phil though, he was paid a billion dollars to be the fall guy.
Starting to think the same thing. The pattern is undeniable. Good basketball players and minds come to MSG to die. Not saying Phil was ever a great exec or GM but the guy knows NBA hoops. Don't tell me he doesn't know how to build a winner. Yet he comes here and turns into a fucking cranky pumpkin.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
Nuke it from orbit. Tell KP to go swimming in Latvia for a week and then napalm and nuke that fucking place.

language in the contract probably issued a gag order. No former GM or coach ever blasts Dolan. Never.
Until they sweep out from Mills on down and replace him with the likes of a Griffin or a Dumars, or a Bird...they will remain a very bad joke across all of professional sports.
New York being the mecca of Basketball should dictate that the league intervene to have a properly run organization in this city!

Well, if true, that at least relieves me a bit in that it shows we are resistant to bringing Leonard here.
Why are they trying to force this trade for Carmelo ?
Are the Knicks are willing to settle for other teams spare parts.
We need a superior scorer for Carmelo, Or No Deal !!
If that is not available , its not a fair trade.
Carmelo has recently had a 62 Point game, maybe he can do it again.
Phil is gone now, he created serious tension and traded away players who have been active, in the Playoffs and Championships with other teams.
Lets play this season with what we have and continue to make adjustments.

Deal between Kings VP Scott Perry & Knicks for vacant NY GM gig is not done but heading that way. Perry one of most respected execs in game.
While CSKA Moscow made contact with Sergio Rodriguez in order to lure him back to Europe, El Chacho wants to stay in the NBA and he is negotiating a new three-year deal with the Sixers.

The two sides are near a deal, Rodriguez is expected to get around $4 million per season, which is almost a raise compared to his initial $8 million contract for the 2016-17 season. Almost half of those money went to Real Madrid for the buy out of the player and now the Spanish point guard is going to get a multiyear deal without having any other financial obligiation to the Spanish powerhouse.

Yup. Lost Caruso and Sergio the same day and Rondo apparently "in talks" with the Pelicans.
you would think, but they just dropped $71 million on a shooting guard they didn't need while they were talking to Griffin. Nothing would shock me at this point.
how garbage Derrick Rose is. He's still available with the likes of Deron Williams, Ty Lawson, Brandon Jennings. He's met with 2 teams, one of which already passed.

it's almost as if those of us who trashed him all last season actually were right about him!
Perry was hired only three months ago as the front office's No. 2 to Kings GM Vlade Divac. That took place days after Perry was dismissed as the Orlando Magic's assistant GM.
Perry played a part in selecting Kentucky point guard De'Aaron Fox with the No. 5 overall pick and making a draft-day trade to move back and draft twice more in the first round, selecting North Carolina's Justin Jackson.
In free agency, the Kings signed veterans George Hill, Vince Carter and Zach Randolph.
Perry has a front-office history that includes stops in Seattle, Oklahoma City, Detroit, Orlando and Sacramento. He was part of helping GM Joe Dumars build an NBA champion and perennial contender with the Pistons.

We are down to Lawson, Deron, Jennings, Rose
So the Knicks could have gotten Sergio ( vet pass first PG), Ian Clark ( young guy with upside) and Justin Holiday for less money and years then what Hardaway got. While leaving Baker as a restricted free agent.
out of those 4 I take Jennings and I don't think twice.
Out of those 4 I take none and lose a shitload of games with Ron Baker
you lose with Jennings too thanks to his awful defense - only he showed the ball will move when he's running PG, which will help KP, Wily, etc. develop on offense.

think I'm with you guys, of that group I'd go with Jennings. Seemed to have decent rapport with KP. Hated the triangle, would likely play even better in an uptempo offense favored by Hornacek. of those 4 I think Jennings would be my pick. Rose being last.
Really shows you how he is perceived around the league. He's going to get the vet minimum. A 28 year old former MVP. That has to be a first in league history.
Really wish Phil got that Rubio trade done. Would have been steal for the Knicks.
Because certainly he was undermined by the Dolan triumvirate? So they planted a chip in Phil's brain to badmouth Melo (never mind he's here in the first place because of Dolan) and float the trial balloon to trade KP. As manh george said, he did plenty to undermine himself.
The Knicks' fan brigade, sainted martyrdom, waiting on edge like Godot for the Melo deal: This franchise, when in HS you waited too long to, or couldn't otherwise, get an attractive prom date and you keep hoping you wake up on Prom morning that she's going to transform from pumpkin to Cinderella. I say this in empathy.
What's Perry's motivation for coming to the Knicks? Obviously money but is that it? Maybe Mills is promising more power than he has with Vlade? Just a little strange to leave a job he took in April. Regardless its good news for the Knicks.
Shockingly, this is Perry's "dream job" per reports.

He's almost certainly getting a lot of money.
And always remember, this was Larry Brown's "dream job" too.
so they have expressed interest. It's in Rondo's best interest to wait for the Knicks to get involved to drive up his price. I'm sure the Knicks told his agent that they are in the process of trying to create some space. I don't think it's so far fetched. He's a good fit and you can probably get him for 2-20 or something like that.
But he'd be a fool to sit around waiting for an offer from the Knicks if he already has any number of teams interested in him.
It's not like he's getting tons of interest. The Lakers reached out, but they can only give him like 4M and I'm sure they are out now. The Pelicans reached out, but he's not starting there and I doubt he will get any money. He'd be dumb not to wait for the Knicks IF they have indeed told them to wait.
Derrick Rose and the Bucks are in "discussions to schedule a meeting" as early as this weekend, according to Chris Haynes of ESPN.com.
When the date is set, the meeting is expected to be in Los Angeles. Rose and the Bucks have already met once, and this report adds that the toughest obstacle is compensation for Rose. The Bucks are already over the tax, so the most they could offer right now would be $5.2 million for the upcoming season.

Jsports is a fake/bser. Knicks "pausing" trade talks with Houston and Cleveland per Shelbourne
How does a developing situation while one of the teams involved onboards a new GM discredit any news from a few days prior?

I definitely see what you're saying, but I think it's just a matter of semantics. There has been nothing to suggest that NYK/HOU weren't at the point of just tying up loose ends with finding a 3rd/4th team to make the deal work. To this point, it was not yet completely done. We knew that.
Clearly it wasn't 100% done; we didn't need an announcement tonight to realize that. So I stand by what I said - I don't think that his original take was invalidated by a material change to the scenario with the Knicks hiring SP.
"Sometimes in negotiations if your not getting what you want pulling out for forces the other side to increase the offer."
But I thought it was done? Hmmm weird
He never said that. He said when all was said and done, Melo would be a Rocket. He may be right. This guy was right on the money that the Knicks would take the French pg. He also knew a lot about Joakim Noah's recruitment of Courtney Lee last summer. He is not a fraud.
also doesn't advertise himself as being something that he's not. He said he doesn't "break news" of trades, he just reports what he hears from sources. And his sources have said to him all along Melo will be a Rocket, no matter what the teams or players involved are.
RE: Potential lineup with Melo trade and Rondo signing...
is close to a deal with the Pelicans so barring a shocking Melo deal it's hard to imagine he's the PG.
It's an interesting deal for the Pels. Rondo looked good in some big games last year and the Bulls might've upset the Celtics had he not gotten hurt. Side note, if Bulls upset the Celts and make a run to the ECF last year, how does that affect the Bulls offseason this year?
This would not surprise me at all.

On April 21, 2017 Perry was hired to be the Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations for the Sacramento Kings.
His dad was the first black assistant coach in NFL history

The Kings had a great offseason. I'm excited about this.
Hope he's smart enough to use the job as a stepping stone.

Tell KP to go swimming in Latvia for a week and then napalm and nuke that fucking place.

was undermined and he wasn't able to follow his vision. Nobody ever is when it comes to the Knicks. It's a mess.

I dont think he was undermined. Just a guess though. I think Rosen or another crony would have leaked that. They may do so now, but at this point I'd consider it just opportunistic spin.
language in the contract probably issued a gag order.

You heard it here first.
Just joking with you Fatman!
If Knicks hire Scott Perry as GM it'd be one of their smartest moves in a long time. Well respected with a great eye for talent

Deal between Kings VP Scott Perry & Knicks for vacant NY GM gig is not done but heading that way. Perry one of most respected execs in game.
I'm sure he knows about any deal.

Update on Scott Perry situation: Kings seeking cash compensation in exchange for his exit to NY to become GM. Working through process now
We have that.
This sounds like a really good move on paper
i am sure that was part of their meeting today

Yup. Lost Caruso and Sergio the same day and Rondo apparently "in talks" with the Pelicans.
We are down to Lawson, Deron, Jennings, Rose
you would think, but they just dropped $71 million on a shooting guard they didn't need while they were talking to Griffin. Nothing would shock me at this point.
Out of those 4 I take none and lose a shitload of games with Ron Baker
it's almost as if those of us who trashed him all last season actually were right about him!

So the Knicks could have gotten Sergio ( vet pass first PG), Ian Clark ( young guy with upside) and Justin Holiday for less money and years then what Hardaway got. While leaving Baker as a restricted free agent.

you lose with Jennings too thanks to his awful defense - only he showed the ball will move when he's running PG, which will help KP, Wily, etc. develop on offense.

Good point. He's also super entertaining.
Really wish Phil got that Rubio trade done. Would have been steal for the Knicks.
Scott Perry is an experienced executive with connections. Also was in Orlando front office when they drafted Elfrid Payton & Mario Hezonja.
I don't even know the guy, but hopefully he takes a lot of Dolan's money and he lands on his feet when he's the next guy fired for not overcoming Incompetence Square Garden.

At some point you hope that one of these guys figures out how to work within the MSG structure and can succeed in spite of the hurdles.

To date it seems like the way to do it is be best pals with Jimmy. It got Allan Houston, Isiah Thomas, and Steve Mills great success.

No.
Then use that cap space for Rondo?
He's almost certainly getting a lot of money.
And always remember, this was Larry Brown's "dream job" too.

knicks have yet to announce baker signing, could mean they think they are getting cap space in trade

Melo and Paul are both Leon Rose clients I believe
It's not like he's getting tons of interest. The Lakers reached out, but they can only give him like 4M and I'm sure they are out now. The Pelicans reached out, but he's not starting there and I doubt he will get any money. He'd be dumb not to wait for the Knicks IF they have indeed told them to wait.

leon rose does not represent chris paul
Seems harsh. It's pretty clear that that's what players have told him.
When the date is set, the meeting is expected to be in Los Angeles. Rose and the Bucks have already met once, and this report adds that the toughest obstacle is compensation for Rose. The Bucks are already over the tax, so the most they could offer right now would be $5.2 million for the upcoming season.

And just a few short months ago, he thought he was getting a $150M deal. How the mighty have fallen.

He said the deal was done. He said Melo is going to Houston and the trade was completed. Now word is the Knicks were talking to both Houston and Cleveland and are "pausing" any discussions. No deal was done. False information . Done means done. There aren't 2 teams involved when "it's done".
But I thought it was done? Hmmm weird

That team just MIGHT be not horrific enough to sneak out of the top 5 lottery.
It's an interesting deal for the Pels. Rondo looked good in some big games last year and the Bulls might've upset the Celtics had he not gotten hurt. Side note, if Bulls upset the Celts and make a run to the ECF last year, how does that affect the Bulls offseason this year?
