This would not surprise me at all.
A few days ago I was reading that this was the plan.
Keith : 7/13/2017 2:02 pm : link
Mills stays as President, Houston as GM. The fact that they haven't even been interviewing outsiders solidifies that.
LOL..
FatMan in Charlotte : 7/13/2017 2:03 pm : link
just an absolute shitshow
What a joke..
Sean : 7/13/2017 2:04 pm : link
.
Absolutely absurd that Dolan left this in Steve Mills' hands
Deej : 7/13/2017 2:05 pm : link
and Mills just installed himself.

Just sell the team already. It's clear you no longer enjoy owning it.

too damn bad that the fans (and tourists) don't stop showing up or watching them on tv or buying merchandise.

Other owners dont give a shit because the Knicks still print money.

If Dolans actions had a huge negative impact on the teams value money wise, maybe there would be enough pressure to get him out, but there isn't.

Can one person on here say they have even a tiny bit of confidence this team can ever contend for a title under Dolan?

He could fuck up a one car funeral. If the Knicks got a guy like LeBron, they would still even screw that up, probably by never getting anything around him.

They have zero plan or direction. Worst run franchise in all of sports by a wide margin.
not only do they have
Enzo : 7/13/2017 2:14 pm : link
this moron running things, they don't feel the need to inform their fans. So much initial promise what with the early reports of Leiweke and Masai and Griffin. And now it's back to amateur hour.
Mook,
Keith : 7/13/2017 2:15 pm : link
the problem is that the people that go to the games, don't care about whats good for the team. They care about that night and having a good time that night. They aren't the diehard fans.

For example, everyone on bbi knew that we were better off losing games late last season, but the home games were nuts. Fans were going ballistic when we were winning. It was like the KNicks were in the Finals. A Knicks game is an event in the city and that hurts the team when the owner only cares about money.

The corporate ticket sales are killing this franchise. The law firms buying boxes dont care about wins and losses. Frankly, they're probably happy that we're not winning and raising ticket prices a ton. Between that and legitimately incompetent ownership, we're just screwed.
from a few days ago...
Keith : 7/13/2017 2:21 pm : link
A source told the Daily News that one of Griffin’s requests was to remove Houston, who has been with the Knicks as a player or an executive for the majority of the last 20 years. With Dolan’s support as one of the owner’s all-time favorite players (remember that $100 million contract extension), Houston rapidly ascended in New York’s front office and many believe he’s being groomed as the next GM under Mills.

Adam Silver still has grounds to publicly make an example
Chris684 : 7/13/2017 2:24 pm : link
of this clown.

Strong-arming critical fans out of the arena and season ticket plans.

Calling paying customers alcoholics.

The mess that was under Isiah.

Publicly beefing with Charles Oakley. That's CHARLES OAKLEY, Oakley is one of the most beloved figures in the franchise's history.
Teams have really been beating down the door

Houston is widely considered to be a mouthpiece and pawn for Dolan and has little respect of people in the NBA. Even former Knicks who played with him aren't happy with the way he totes the party line while being part of a sinking ship.

1. Absolutely zero experience in a role every close to this
2. Dolan lackey
3. No experience negotiating trades or signing players

His entire resume is player + GM of the Westchester Knicks where his moves are dictated by the NBA GM

4. Behind the scenes not highly thought of as a basketball mind

5. Has been here for years nary a peep of interest in other teams interested

6. Same as #2... he's a Dolan BFF

Embarrassing.
Hmmm
ryanmkeane : 7/13/2017 2:29 pm : link
yeah, this won't go over well.
When Houston's..

strongest quality is defending Dolan frequently, that says about all you need to know.

"Allan Houston is not qualified"

I'm actually at the point where
Chris684 : 7/13/2017 2:33 pm : link
I might feel bad for Phil Jackson. No matter what he owns the triangle mess and Rambis so that's on him.

Anything else though, who really knows what he was dealing with over there on a daily basis, could have been micromanagement, back-stabbing, power grabs. Who knows?

All we know now is that the couple of guys next in line put themselves in the big seat after Phil leaves. It's a soap opera.
I'm

starting the think the Knicks might just have a plan; set into a course of many stupid franchise crippling moves so that the fan base comes to terms that giving up multiple first round picks for Ujiri is the right move; only to have Ujiri fired before he has a chance to make a first round pick.
I can almost guarantee that Phil
Keith : 7/13/2017 2:35 pm : link
was undermined and he wasn't able to follow his vision. Nobody ever is when it comes to the Knicks. It's a mess.

Don't feel bad for Phil though, he was paid a billion dollars to be the fall guy.
what a joke...
Italianju : 7/13/2017 2:36 pm : link
at least when the fail (and we know they will) and dolan gets antsy he will have to fire one or both of them.

True. But remember it almost took an alien invasion for Dolan to fire Isaiah, despite watching him turn the franchise into an embarrassment on and off the court.

I dont think he was undermined. Just a guess though. I think Rosen or another crony would have leaked that. They may do so now, but at this point I'd consider it just opportunistic spin.
Dan Favale Melo trade idea
DanMetroMan : 7/13/2017 2:47 pm : link
Brooklyn Nets Receive: C John Henson, SG Rashad Vaughn, 2020 second-round pick (via Houston)

Houston Rockets Receive: SF/PF Carmelo Anthony

Milwaukee Bucks Receive: PF Ryan Anderson, 2018 second-round pick (from Charlotte, Memphis or Miami, via Houston)

New York Knicks: SG Joe Harris, PF/C Spencer Hawes, PF Shawn Long, SG Tim Quarterman, PF Mirza Teletovic, 2018 top-20 protected pick (via Milwaukee), 2020 first-round pick (via Houston) http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2721018-impact-moves-teams-should-still-pursue-during-nba-offseason?
Jax undermined himself.
manh george : 7/13/2017 2:49 pm : link
He was lazy, inept as a manager as opposed to a coach, and obsessed with the Triangle, that no one else found to be up-to-date with modern athletes.

He is practically the only person in the world for whom Dolan is almost a fall guy.

Pelicans see Rondo-Holiday on floor together. There's real traction on a possible deal, league sources tell @ZachLowe and me. https://twitter.com/zachlowe_nba/status/885541345225433089 …

What do the Nets trade in that deal?

Why not just cut them out and give the Knicks those assets.
the nets are taking on hensons....
Italianju : 7/13/2017 2:59 pm : link
contract. I wouldnt really want to pay him 3/30 just to get a second rounder and Vaughn.
Amazing how fast Houston became qualified for the GM position

Another week on the job made all the difference.

Maybe Davis Stern will come out and publicly slap Dolan again,I could use one of those
What does

Thanks Dan. Seems a decent risk, no?
if we somehow end up with a first rounder
Enzo : 7/13/2017 3:12 pm : link
for Melo - a top 10 or a lottery protected pick is something you can live with. Top 20 protection is excessive.
And
Beezer : 7/13/2017 3:13 pm : link
wouldn't the Knicks likely only keep Teletovic and Hawes and ditch the rest?
That
