The New York Knicks are pausing trade talks centered on Carmelo Anthony and want to pursue a conversation with the 10-time NBA All-Star about possibly reincorporating him into the organization, league sources told ESPN. Article - ( New Window )
Because it makes absolutely ZERO sense to keep Melo. Well, the only way it makes sense is that you might be able to get something more at the Trading Deadline but given his injury history, I wouldn't risk it.
This team can't even tank properly...and our cap situation is shit
A couple of hours ago I was happy with the GM hire - can't even ride that high for one freaking night.
ehh it makes sense, of they arenot getting what they wnt put it out there they are in no rush and see if houaton or clevelabd up the offer...plus you want the new gm in on the talks
if just the Rockets had kept one asset from the Clippers. I probably would have done Melo for Anderson, Dekker, and spare parts. But the Rockets really just have garbage to offer now.
Carmelo isnt opting out. If the guy has shown anything in is career is that he wants every cent
The reason he didnt make the LeBron free agency is that he money grabbed to reap early with Denver. He could have played his year out in Denver and signed with Knicks in free agency with a more talent laden team but they couldnt offer him as much then so Knicks dealt every asset they had. Then he choose reupping with Knicks over Bulls.
He's always chosen the money.
Carmelo won't get 26 mil in free agency next year from another team.
They are not getting anything for him anyway and he is not going to anything to win more than a couple of extra games. As a Syracuse grad/fan I will be disappointed if he decides to stay rather than showing a desire to win somewhere else. I cannot imagine being him and electing to stay for 2 more years of garbage basketball and losing.
GOOD. Don't give him away like Mills and AH would have.
Yeah I just read this as giving the new GM time to join the negotiations. Publicly stating they'll consider bringing him back is a negotiating ploy, he's still as good as gone
would've walked away from that $80 million we just gave Timmy Jr. and Ron Burgundy had these front office moves had been made at the proper time? I guess I'll trust the process or something.
You guys are crazy if you think this is anything other than business
Be the worst team in the NBA for the next 2 years and acquire 2 top 3 lottery picks to put with Porzingas.
That way in 2019-20 you have a 23 year old hopefully perennial all-star Porzingas and hopefully regular starter 21-year old Frankie Ntkilina at the PG and 2 highly touted lottery picks manning the other 2 spots and thats the core moving forward with hopefully some cap space arriving after Hardaway and Noah expire.
That's the only hope this team has.
Honestly, it really doesn't matter what extra drop in the bucket they can wrangle out of Houston other than shedding Carmelo Anthony off this team because the 1 thing he will not do is help the knicks be the worst team in the NBA.
The 5, 6, 7, 8 pick etc just isnt good enough.
They must be the worst team in league and hopefully get some luck and get the 1 pick.
Said it ten times the last month. Ill believe melo is traded when I see it. I'm sick of him but there's a part of me that wants to see the knicks keep melo and get the most out of him. His trade value obviously blows. But this is still so frustrating and knicksy.
It would be hard for me to blame the knicks if melo wasn't going to return anything postitive in a trade. I do not under any circumstance buy him out or trade him for a shitter player and contract. Why do that? That's just stupid.
Use melo as a scorer and transition the team over to KP. Don't like taking less shots there melo? What the fuck are you even gonna do about it? Just play ball.
RE: You guys are crazy if you think this is anything other than business
the deal being bandied about was meh. Let Houston do some work scrounging up a 3rd or 4th team to give us at least an intriguing young guy and a pick or 2. I know those around here basically paint Melo as hot garbage, the guy proved the past few Olympics he can really fit into a team of stars. We may as well maximize what we can get seeing as if Houston is interested there aren't many better options especially if they want to dump Ryan Anderson somewhere
RE: All that aside I have no problem with this at all

Or let the sleazy agents get to work orchestrating a better deal for the Knicks. So tired of the rest of the league and all the agents taking advantage of the Knicks perpetual dumbfuckery
in some people's minds that you're going to get some kind of great deal for him later.
He's just not worth what some people figure he's worth. The window for trading him for a haul passed on a long time ago. His game last year looked older than his birth certificate tells you, he now gets some form of hurt every season, he's no longer the same overwhelming scorer, and he plays less defense than ever.
The fact that the Rockets tried this hard over the wishes of their own head coach to get a deal done and get other teams involes, they should've taken what they could get and run. The more time Houston has to think about this, the more reasons they'll come up with to second-guess the fit of having two ball-dominant scorers trying to share the ball.
to be pretty sure he's not leaving money on the table just to play for a winning team? He flat out said he would be content if he finished without a ring. He's not getting near that dollar figure on the open market. Phil's gone, so he won that battle. He's still Dolan's guy, from all indications surrounding Phil's firing. Why would he leave? At this point we need a better reason than "to go play with his friends", since he's passed up every opportunity before to go do that when the choice was winning or money.
at the deadline all you've done is signed up for six more months of Melo-drama and the seventh pick in the draft instead of top three. I'm hopeful this is just a negotiating ploy and not a path they're seriously considering.
Moving him is the right thing to do IF we don't take long term
Are looked at as the biggest jokes in the sport, in my opinion this is actually good news, maybe they can start to act like a fucking franchise with a plan. The shame of all this is was keeping Phil too long, making moves before getting your GM, now lets see if they finally have someone in the organization with a fucking brain and a clue.
Hahahaha yeah... I'm a casual Knicks fan, and I kept thinking it just makes too much sense to trade him and rebuild properly. No way they'll do the sensible thing.
have nothing of any value to offer. Wait and trade him closer to the trade deadline. We were doing just fine losing with him in the lineup this season, we can lose with him in it next season as well.
This team can't even tank properly...and our cap situation is shit
The worst case scenario is it opens up 26M in cap space next year when he opts out.
What is the trade that can get done that doesn't give the Knicks additional salary obligations?

No it was on the Rockets 2 yd line and we threw 4 straight fade passes to our 5'11 WR

New GM knows to walk away. Great timing.
GOOD. Don't give him away like Mills and AH would have.

What else would it have to do with other than business? What are you babbling about?
Aren't you the guy who said there are at least 10 WRs better than Beckham? Yeah you are.
You're awful here.
Keeping Carmelo (for the moment) is not the worse case scenario.

Trade Lee for a PG.
He's just not worth what some people figure he's worth. The window for trading him for a haul passed on a long time ago. Once again, Jon in NYC hits the nail on the head. No reason to move Carmelo now for squat. What does that gain the Knicks?
2) We can't afford a quality, experienced PG.
That could be an unbelievably bad team.
Hahahaha yeah... I'm a casual Knicks fan, and I kept thinking it just makes too much sense to trade him and rebuild properly. No way they'll do the sensible thing.
OR
The Knicks are idiots for not trading Melo right away, even if they'd have to take a bad contract back?
