Time and time again he sits either Gardner or Ells against a lefty but not tonight at least cooper is playing right away

I'm guessing he trusts Gardy more than Frazier to handle LF and the monster at Fenway
Headley down to 7th
Stu11 : 7/14/2017 6:50 pm : link
its a start. With Castr back tomorrow hopefully we can move him down even further, though Torreyes should be ahead of him rightnow.

Gardner

Leads off the game with a walk and never even attempted to steal. It's mind boggling
Montgomery

Doesn't look sharp so far

It really frustrates me when that happens he is the fastest guy on the team you have your big hitters coming up to drive him in

He rarely does with Sanchez. IDK why they would start a big road trip ignoring one of the few things that worked the final month of the first half.

Yes I agree Did a good job getting out of it
29 pitches, zero runs.
Del Shofner : 7/14/2017 7:42 pm : link
OK but we'll be lucky to get 5 innings out of Monty.

I have defended Romine here but look at it this way - Sanchez is an all-star, Holliday is back at DH and we just traded for a real 1B. Who sits for Romine, whose bat is that of a backup catcher?
Cooper's MLB debut is a flare out to second.

These guys gotta give Monty

ITA agree Sanchez should be starting the first day after the break, but why go with Montgomery if they weren't going to use the catcher they obviously think he performs better with? Might as well start Sevy or Tanaka.

We're not the manager, but they clearly see the same things we do and the same numbers otherwise Romine wouldn't have caught his last 7 games.
Man, Montgomery
NYerInMA : 7/14/2017 8:01 pm : link
just can't hold that strike zone can he?

55 pitches, zero runs -
Del Shofner : 7/14/2017 8:04 pm : link
you can't score on Monty, you can only hope he tires himself out!
shockey - another way to look at it is that both Sanchez and Monty
Del Shofner : 7/14/2017 8:06 pm : link
are in the Yanks' long-term plans, and Romine not so much (though like I said, I like Romine). At what point do you just force Sanchez and Monty to start working together? If you look at this from next year's perspective, it doesn't strike me as crazy.

I would prefer Ellsbury scratched. Traded for a pitcher. Baby steps lol. Hopefully that happens before Hicks returns.

B in ALB : 7/14/2017 9:28 pm : link
decision to play Jokeoby tonight over Red Thunder - especially against a lefty.

This screams a subtle hint from Cash coupled with the three ring.
I hate to say it,
Photoguy : 7/14/2017 9:30 pm : link
but I don't think it's going to happen. The Yanks are stuck with him for the duration.
they aren't stuck with him
MookGiants : 7/14/2017 9:37 pm : link
they can and should release him if no one wants to take him off their hands for 10 cents on the dollar.

The only thing they may be stuck is paying him, but paying him doesn't mean he has to be on the roster.
If the Sox can DFA Sandoval
NYerInMA : 7/14/2017 9:37 pm : link
Then the Yanks can definitely DFA Ellsbury if they can't find a trade partner.
Well,
Photoguy : 7/14/2017 9:39 pm : link
you'd certainly get no argument from me, if they did.

I thought Frazier would have started tonight over Jacoby.

Ellsbury could get concussed. Then they will never trade him. I agree on Frazier. There is no showcase with Ellsbury. DFA him please or bench him until pitcher with bad contract swap is complete, he has less luck than Fowler.
Remember when Arod was batting 7th?
KingZ : 7/14/2017 10:00 pm : link
Hopefully something is in process. They had Ellsbury leading off with Gardner 9th saying that gave them 2 leadoff hitters.
