says Portland has no interest in helping Melo land in Houston.
If Melo agreed to go to Portland
Earl the goat : 7/16/2017 4:26 pm : link
I'd take
Crabbe. 18 million. 3 years.
Davis 6.5 million. Expiring
Swanigan 1.5 million Good looking power forward rookie
I'd keep it simple
Anakim : 7/16/2017 5:03 pm : link
Carmelo for Mo Harkless, a first rounder in the future and a second rounder

Knicks sign Trey Burke, Tyler Ennis or Demetrius Jackson
Need to make a trade that works under the cap.
Meats and Cheeses : 7/16/2017 5:08 pm : link
Melo for Harkless, Davis, Vonleh, Napier, Swanigan and a 2019 unprotected first rounder.

Yuck, rather keeping paying Melo for 2 years than take Crabbe's contract. Why pay all that money to him and Hardaway?

Give me Harkless, Ed Davis, Vonleh, and Zach Collins. Don't see any way that he accepts a trade to Portland though. You're not winning anything there and it's about as far away from his son as you can get.

Olshey wouldn't do deal unless he could dump turner or crabbe
Swanigan 1.5 million Good looking power forward rookie

Harkless, Collins, Ed Davis, Leonard, 1st for Melo.

Portland gets Melo, saves on Lux tax, gets rid of Leonard's awful contract.

And the price they pay is Collins.

Both teams win.

Dumb trade. The reason the Knicks didn't do the Houston trade is because they don't want Leonard. My proposal makes more sense.

Hardly a "dumb trade".

Don't be stupid. It has to work for both teams. Why are the Blazers giving up all their good contracts and Swanigan for Melo who is probably going to opt out next year.

If anything you need to get your head out of your ass cause the Blazers aren't trading their entire bench and youth while keeping all their shitty contracts for 1 year of 33 year old Melo.

Sorry I called it a dumb trade. It's more of a moronic trade. The Knicks aren't taking on Leonard. If the Blazers want Melo to go with their star guards, they're going to pt up. The Knicks trading Melo to only take back Leonard and Harkless to clog up your cap space for three years is illogical and the exact reason the initial three way deal didn't go through.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about.

The Knicks were getting nothing of value in the previous iterations of this trade. Adding 9M in cap space for a top 10 pick is a no brainer.

Your proposal is a fairy tale. The Blazers would never accept that. You're a clown.

You're pathetic. Look at you with the name calling. I'm sure you have the balls to talk that way to strangers in person. If Melo is willing to go to Portland, there will be other teams as well. This creates leverage. If Portland wants Melo bad enough, they'll pony up. Melo may opt out, but nobody is lying him big money if he does. Maybe the Knicks choose Swanigan or a future first. However, taking back Harkless and Leonard is dumber than giving Greg Gard a long term extension.
This is why Knicks threads suck

Wtf are you babbling about now? What does Greg Gard have to do with anything?

Clearly you're wrong, and there's a good reason you rarely post on these threads. You should go take a lap.

They would give up Collins because that is the only thing of value that they would be giving up in that deal. Davis and Vonleh are expiring and just there to match salary. Harkless is a solid role player that probably doesn't deserve the $10m per year he is making. Portland coming in this late in the game would have to offer something of value, it's not like they are the only ones vying for Melo, they have Houston and Cleveland to compete with. The blazers entering the mix actually gives the Knicks some leverage if word gets out that Melo would be willing to go there.
I still cant believe how dumb some people are that

I mean Lillard and CJ but not the contracts. I like Crabbe but Melo is better. If they want Melo, cost is 2 #1's and Harkness or we keep Melo.

GMEN46 : 7/16/2017 8:57 pm : link
Meats and cheeses of Portland does that trade the gm should be fired immediately. there is 0 chance of that happening. The 2019 unprotected by itself is an overpay, plus you want to include swanigan who is other #1 pick and harkless who is a young player with some upside and a decent contract for a very good player who is on the downside who will def leave after 1 year. The 2019 pick will most likely be a lottery pick after Melo leaves with how deep the west is.

While I disagree with Jon in nyc on his frank analysis, he is exactly right in this scenario. At this point you take on as many bad contracts as you can as long as they are not longer than 3 years since knicks have no chance of being anything great for another 3 years because of all of the bad contracts. If they are willing to give a 2019 pick even with Leonard's contract you take it. If they want to throw in turner and we give them lee for Collins you take it. Bad contracts are meaning less right now. thisbis my favorite idea but prob a little unrealistic:

Portland gets:
Melo
Courtney Lee
Oquinn

Knicks get:
2019 unprotected #1st Rd
2021 unprotected 1sr Rd
2019 2nd Rd from Lakers
Moe Harkless
Myles Leonard
Evan Turner

Obviously 2 of the 3 players they are getting are worthless, but the contracts expire at same time as Noah and Lance Thomas. Additionally assuming Portland will be good in 2018, Melo def leaves after 2018 so prob not as good in 2019 so pick could be better lottery pick. knicks can obviously make the future picks or they can be used with any of these terrible expiring contracts in 2019 to package for a team that is starting a rebuild that has a talented player locked in for a few years.

I know big hypothetical, but I'm assuming Portland would at least consider this offer to get rid of all of the awful contracts and pick up 2 pretty good pieces to add to a pretty talented team. With Melo and Courtney Lee I'm assuming Portland is a top 5 in the west?otherwise I like Jon in NYC trade idea

You think he'd consider the Lakers if they ask him to expand his wish list? They clearly have some young assets.

Right now, the Knicks are holding up a Carmelo Anthony trade.

But even if New York’s new regime relents on dealing Anthony to the Rockets, there are still complications.

Houston would probably have to send out Ryan Anderson, whom nobody wants at his salary. Sure, some teams might take Anderson – with a sweetener or to unload their own bad contracts. Like the Trail Blazers, who have Meyers Leonard.

Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports:

With Anthony yet to indicate he would waive his no-trade clause to play in Portland, the Blazers’ early involvement has largely been as a third-team facilitator for New York and Houston, with the teams’ inability to find a fourth team to absorb the contract of Meyers Leonard stalling at least one version of the deal, three sources with knowledge of the talks told The Vertical.

Leonard is owed $31,786,516 over the next three years. His big-man skills have disintegrated despite being 7-foot-1, and his outside shooting isn’t threatening enough to compensate. He’s just 25, so there’s time for him to rebound (literally and figuratively). But at that price, it’s a bad bet.

The Trail Blazers have plenty of lousy contracts and face the luxury tax, so presumably, they’d unload a couple for the overpaid Anderson – who can still help on the court with his floor spacing – in this trade.

The Knicks and Rockets can keep roping in more teams. But at the end of the day, someone has to end up with the worst contract in the trade, whether that’s Anderson or Leonard. Good luck finding a taker.
Link - ( New Window )
That's really the key
Deej : 7/18/2017 1:26 pm : link
HOU not only wants Melo with no decent assets to trade, but feels compelled to move Anderson as part of the deal, when he should cost 2-3 #1s to move on his own. If they were willing to do something with Gordon/Ariza it would get a lot easier.
and the real killer here...
Italianju : 7/18/2017 1:28 pm : link
is that the Knicks will lose a possible asset so that someone else takes leonard. Id almost rather take all the assets and Leonard. Of course id have to know what the assets are. I cant see POR throwing in a first or someone like swanigan just so someone takes leonard, but say they would, id rather take that asset and take on Leonard. We probably dont need cap space the next couple seasons anyway. No star is coming here and we will just end up paying descent players like they are great players.

Now if Melo would go to POR i think you could get some real good assets from POR along with Harkless/Leonard. They have all their picks and guys like Swanigan, Collins, or even a guy like Vonleh who still has some upside.
Woj reports that Melo has told the Knicks that he wants out
yatqb : 7/18/2017 4:44 pm : link
and wants to go to Houston.

I'd say tough shit to him. If we can't get what we need from Houston, or have to take back bad contracts in a trade, I'd let him know that he'll have to suffer on the Knicks and opt out next year, or agree to a buyout that offers significant savings to the Knicks (if the CBA allows for that). They can't let him call all the shots here, to the detriment of our team's future.
