I'm trying to get a smart watch to measure heart rate/calories burnt/etc. I'm looking between the cheaper option of the Fitbit Surge or the more expensive Garmin Forerunner 935. Anyone have any advice?
Sync it to Mapmyride and it works well enough. It will not be as accurate on HR as a unit with a chest strap....but I do not think mine is all that far off at all for wrist measurements.
The Forerunner would be my choice but is not something I would probably want to wear all the time. I like the fitbit charge 2 as I can wear it all day...good for running as well.
I've been happy with my Garmin Vivoactive HR. Generally accurate HR for most activities, GPS is dead on accurate. I use it primarily for running, but cycling friendliness is a big selling point I believe as well. I appreciated the flexibility of the device, for example it also has golf, paddle board, kayak tracking etc.
you probably want to include a heart strap. Polar makes the best straps, but their watches suck.
I had the Fitbit Surge, and it's pretty good, but I found that the GPS took a while to find me. HR is OK, but loses it when you get to higher HR levels. I liked the workout app a lot, easy to read, and informative.
I recently switched to Apple, and I really like it. The GPS is REALLY responsive, it finds me immediately. HR is decent, probably slightly better than Fitbit. The workout functions aren't that great, but you can easily integrate it with apps specific to your workout preference. You can even include links to those apps on the watchface.
