So I'm visiting family and friends in the Bay Area for the first time in somewhere around 10 years.
Was looking for recommendations for cool things I could do in the city. I'll be relying on my friends, but they'll be at work for a few days so I"ll have time to explore myself.
My family is located in Los Altos, but they seem to have a good handle of what to do out here.
With regards to the city, I'm looking for things that might specifically interest me a little more. Not too interested in the super touristy stuff - already did that when I first visited here as a teen.
Things I like:
-Food that I can't get in NYC
- music concerts (non neon/cheezy house music and DIY rock venues)
- instrument stores
- cool bars
- great views
- anything specific to the city that a local would go to
- good spot to chat up single women
I know we have some Bay Area-ians out here (incorrect terminology, sorry), so figured I'd solicit some recommendations.
Food You Can't Get in NY
- Thai: Kin Khao (union square)
- Mexican: nopalito (2 locations) - high end
- Chinese:San Tung (inner sunset) - dry fried chicken
Cool Bars
- Hard Water: ridiculous bourbon list
- Tosca Cafe: April Bloomfield spot
- Toronado: Beers
Music
- Filmore
- Independent
- Slims
Have fun! Check out sfweekly.com (village voice of SF) for calendar/local shows. When are you here?
100% agree. One of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.
....you're welcome
