NFT: NYK - cheap/young/athletic FAs to pursue

Pep22 : 7/19/2017 8:13 am
**Ian Clark remains unsigned.** NYK don't have $$ for him, but at least we landed Ron Baker.

Can be had for NBA MIN:

1. Christian Wood, 6'10" multi-skilled, highly athletic kid who at 21 is finally starting to add some muscle

2. Vince Hunter - 6'8" hybrid forward who plays a physical, rim attacking style; also defends multiple positions well

3. Jordan Mickey, Demetrius Jackson - Celtic castoffs; both highly athletic but lack great shooting

4. Tyler Ennis - safe, steady Mike Bibby type PG

5. Alex Poythress, KJ McDaniels - two high intensity, defensive wings with major athleticism. Neither can shoot.
Note: while

Ennis is mentioned, he's not especially athletic
cheap prices
I Love Clams Casino : 7/19/2017 8:41 am : link
good quality as is made in U.S. Very customer is happy
Can
Jon in NYC : 7/19/2017 8:49 am : link
you define "Mike Bibby type"?
I'd like to bring in KJ McDaniels
Greg from LI : 7/19/2017 8:54 am : link
Hard-nosed player, good athlete, excellent defender, hard working kid.
Ennis
Pep22 : 7/19/2017 9:26 am : link
always struck me as a PG who is smart, good understanding of the game, reliable back-up type who will run an offense properly but without much flash. Athletically, he's average or slightly below.

Sort of the Brian Hoyer of PGs. :)
Trade Thought
Pep22 : 7/19/2017 9:49 am : link
NYK gives: Melo
NYK gets: Kenneth Faried, Jameer Nelson, Juancho Hernangomez

CLE gives: Love
CLE gets: Melo

Den gives: Kenneth Faried, Jameer Nelson, Juancho Hernangomez
Den gets: Love

Lot of IFs here: would CLE want to translate Love to Melo (I wouldn't but I think they would). Can Love and Millsap co-exist (not sure but I like it better than Faried and Millsap)?
??
DanMetroMan : 7/19/2017 9:50 am : link
Denver signed Millsap why would they trade for Love? That deal doesn't make sense for them.

At the cost of Juancho/Faried I find it extremely hard to believe they would want to find that out.
How
DanMetroMan : 7/19/2017 9:56 am : link
would that even work? Love/Millsap/Jokic? It's DOA.
offensively
Pep22 : 7/19/2017 10:03 am : link
its a better situation than they have now

consider what they have now: Jokic + Millsap + any other non guard on their roster doesn't seem to work well either
...the cost of Faried???
Pep22 : 7/19/2017 10:04 am : link
they've been trying to trade off that salary for years, including him is a PLUS

You honestly believe Love makes sense paired with Jokic/Millsap at the cost of Juancho/Faried? Who would guard 3's? They would be destroyed. I'm all for trade ideas but this one doesn't pass the sniff test. Love made sense for Denver before Millsap, not now. They added Try Lyles and added 1st round 4 Tyler Lydon. They have Wilson Chandler on the roster. Love isn't a fit.
...
Pep22 : 7/19/2017 10:10 am : link
a) you're right, bad fit given Millsap

b) although I don't think their roster makes sense now either

I do agree with b 100%, they need to move some pieces, Faried being moved makes a lot of sense to me.
I don't know what pieces
Pep22 : 7/19/2017 10:17 am : link
NYK would give up (they have no use for Lee and likely nobody wants Thomas)....but I'd like to see Faried as our 3rd BIG -- I think he'd be a nice compliment to play alongside Willy and KP (separate pairings)

Culture wise, he'd be a shot in the arm to what Perry seems to want to head towards in terms of defense/athleticism etc. even if he isn't < 25
Cleveland has given 0 indication that they would move
Keith : 7/19/2017 10:32 am : link
Love for Melo. They've had plenty of chances to get into the fray, but they haven't and probably won't. Nor should they.
Lee
Pep22 : 7/19/2017 10:33 am : link
I meant Denver has no use for him (he is a good player on a reasonable deal but they have a glut of guys for Lee's role: Beasley/Murray/Harris/Barton)
would have to be Melo
Carl in CT : 7/19/2017 10:51 am : link
and a #1 pick. I wouldn't do it.

Jordan Mickey, Stephen Zimmerman, Demetrius Jackson, Trey Burke, Tyler Ennis, Troy Williams, James Young, Rakeem Christmas, Michael Gbinije, Georges Niang...

Not necessarily sign ALL of them....just a couple of them and invite the rest to training camp. I would love to take a chance on Mickey, Zimmerman and one of Jackson, Burke and Ennis.
