Going to 49ers Game- Advice Welcomed

ManningLobsItBurressAlone : 7/19/2017 12:04 pm
Got tickets to the Giants-9ers at Levi's this year. First time out to San Francisco, and looking for some advice from some fellow BBI'ers on where to stay, and transportation to and from the stadium, and maybe some things to do.

Some areas I was told to look into while staying in the area have been Presidio, Ashbury-Haight, North Beach, and Pacific Heights. They look to be nice areas, where on Saturday can be close to some touristy things to do (GG Bridge, hiking in that area). However, just throwing like North Beach to Levi's stadium into Google, it looks like it would be over 2.5 hours to the stadium. Since all the above neighberhoods seem to be in the same general location, is there a more efficient way to get down to Levi's? The train it looks is over 3 hours. I don't plan on renting a car, so public transport would be it. Any other areas to look into staying?

Thanks in advance for the help.
Advice?

I'm flying in and out the same day so I will not comment on the attractions of SF but my main consideration for the game is the heat. Now the game is in November, however the 49er "Faithful" have been complaining a lot about the amount of exposure and heat to Jed York and its not terribly uncommon for a hot day in November to fall. I ran through several solar models of the stadium and saw that sections 232-234 get shade the first for a 1pm game. So thats where I'll be sitting, home side unfortunately, but it is the club seats!
The stadium is basically in San Jose

So you are better off trying to stay close to the stadium and then uber it if you want to go to SF for a night or two.
Went there in 2015 for Seahawks vs 49ers

on Thanksgiving day. Boring as game. Stadium is okay. Fans were fine. My Seahawks buddy was respectful in a Seahawks win. Definitely not near SF though. There are hotels in walking distance of the stadium or in cheap rideshare proximity. Not life near the stadium? Not much that I could tell, though we were in and out.

I wore a long sleeve shirt to a Thanksgiving day game there. I wouldn't worry about heat. If its going to be a nice sunny day, look at the weather and sport a hat, short sleeves, and shades.
It's only about an hour from

downtown SF area to Levi. They have buses and trains that go for games.

Here's a link.

I can't imagine it taking that long, but maybe call them or put the date and times in to double check.

note, that there are multiple train services and a link to reserving a seat on an event bus for special events. 49ers games not listed yet, but that could be a great option as you get closer and all else fails.

There's always Uber too.
The stadium in in Santa Clara, no where near San Francisco

In fact its much closer to San Jose. If you have your heart set on staying in SF, then I would move to a closer hotel for game day, there are a bunch of hotels in the Santa Clara/Sunnyvale/"Great America" area. Something in Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, San Jose, or Milpitas would all work.

The other option is spend time in downtown San Jose. Its ok, no where near as big and diversified as SF, but you wouldn't need to switch hotels
I plan on going to this game as well.

I haven't gotten tickets yet, as I expect SF to suck, and I think prices will come down as the game gets nearer. I'm going to stay in SF, likely around Embarcadero, and drive down to Levi's.

Depending how long you plan on being in the area, I would urge you to stay in SF. It's about an hour to the stadium and back, but food and nightlife options are far better in SF than San Jose.
My recommendation

having been there plenty of times but not to this stadium is to stay in San Jose for the game. It's a lot easier than dealing with having to go in and out of SF on game day.
As stated, stadium is in Santa Clara.

Any town around there is fine - Mountain View, Cupertino, Sunnyvale or San Jose. BART schedules are helpful if you're lookkng to go that route.

Nightlife in San Jose is meh. Head to Santana row and you'll find some decent crowds. Food is great in the whole area (I work in San Jose) so you'll have a hard time going wrong.
Went to SF last year and hated it.

Miserable people.
