NFT: Knicks Chat: McCollum claims Melo is interested in Portland

DanMetroMan : 7/20/2017 9:18 am
All the attention has been focused on Houston and Cleveland as Anthony’s desired landing spots. But on Wednesday, the Blazers, formerly seen as facilitators, possibly stepped up as suitors through their All-Star backcourt. Guards Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum, speaking to reporters at Lillard’s basketball camp, indicated their belief Anthony would consider Portland.

“I think he’s interested,” McCollum told the Oregonian and later, speaking on SiriusXM Radio, said, “If we add Carmelo Anthony, we’ll be a top three team in the West immediately.”

Lillard said Anthony joining the Blazers is “a real possibility,” according to Rip City Radio.

You aren't wrong. We can trade for Lebron. We can see if we can get Curry or Chris Paul(I'm not sure what we have to trade for them, maybe Lance Thomas?) then maybe we can see how Ray Allen looks and just keep Melo. He's a perfect fit with that team.

Am I the only one who thinks Kawhi wins MVP in a landslide this year? Both Harden and Westbrooks #s and narrative will be diminished by their new teammates, Lebron doesnt care enough about the regular season. Its either Kawhi in my eyes or someone else who takes that next step like Giannis or AD.

I remember being made fun of so much for saying that Rose is on the Rondo end of his career and will have to settle for 1-2 year deals, but even I'm shocked Rose is settling for vet minimum deals. OUCH! I almost wish Dep was here so he can tell us how Rose is still a top NBA PG.

We're cool now though right nygiants16 and Keith?

I'd imagine for absorbing their cap room - Davis isn't exactly a high value asset. Would think most teams would prefer the full 10m of cap savings to spend however they choose, but Nets can easily get cut out.

I would assume an asset would be sent to the Nets for taking on Davis? Why wouldn't the Knicks just want that asset for themselves?

when can he be traded?

Free agent forward Troy Williams is returning to the Rockets, his agency ASM Sports announced today (via Twitter). According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN (Twitter link), Williams will get a three-year contract with a fully guaranteed first year and trigger dates for years two and three.
Reports that Melo will waive his 8M

i mean i guess that kinda helps...
Italianju : 7/21/2017 8:36 am : link
but not really. Hou still need to send out around 20 mill to make the deal work. Your still looking at anderson who we dont want or a Gordon/Ariza combo which Im sure HOU wont do. I mean we dont technically know what guys like QI and Williams signed for, but i cant imagine its enough to make it work. Maybe it is if they send Gordon with them, but who knows.

it could help in the sense they dont have to send anderson to a 3rd team and they can send gordon and some of their non guaranteed out, may be easier to find a 3rd team that way...
Under the radar team to trade for Melo
GMEN46 : 7/21/2017 9:32 am : link
What about OKC?

OKC gets Melo and Oquinn

Knicks get Kanter who more then likely opts out next year so it's expiring and they have a bunch of fillers, Jeremy grant Ronnie piece huestas and then they throw in 2 1st Rd future picks. They could def compete with Golden state rolling out Westbrook, George, Robertson, Melo and Adams
Made it to the 2 yard line

Kanter is duplicative of Willy, and I think he wont opt out. If someone values him, make it a 3 way.
Why want an opt out player?
Carl in CT : 7/21/2017 10:50 am : link
Get a young building piece. You don't give Melo away. If he doesn't want to be here, we will crack and open his list.

it was never at the 2 yard line, frank isola said that so whem the knicks did not make the deal he coukd say the knicks screwed it up...

he had an article yesterday thay said the paramaters of a deal were in pkace but were figurjng out where ryan anderson goes, umm that means you do not have the paramaters of the deal
A lot of guys aren't getting it
GMEN46 : 7/21/2017 1:48 pm : link
We are not getting back a big haul for Melo. Would you rather keep Melo for the year and prob win 35 games, get the 9-12th pick and deal with all the Melodrama? Who cares if Kanter has the same game as Willy he can come off the bench and play 25 minutes. Who cares if he opts in in year 2 we are going to have no cap space for 3 more years, so his contract is completely irrelevant.

If OKC would throw in a 1st Rd pick with Kanter , Grant and some other expirings it's an absolute no brainer. It guarantees Knicks are top 5 bad team next year in a very top heavy draft. Additionally there is a chance Melo, George and Westbrook are gone after next year.

If Houston wants us to take on Anderson, fine make sure to include a 2020 1st rounder (Houston would have to guarantee the 2018 they just sent out for us to be able to get a 2020) and either one of the 2 big man prospects. Anderson's contract is relevant over the next 3 years because Knicks are maxed out. Additionally allows for a full tank next year

I would also take Shump Frye, Fillers and a 1st rounder in 2020 or 2022 for Melo. Cleveland can get this done if Melo waives trade kicker. Shump's contract again irrelevant and helps guarantee top 5 pick. Shump is also tradeable at deadline to a team that needs a defensive guard/Wwing.

There is no upside to keeping Melo around, if have to take on bad contracts to get a 1st rounder and a young project then it's a no brainer. The contracts are irrelevant at this point.
I wouldn't say the contracts are irrelevant
Heisenberg : 7/21/2017 1:55 pm : link
I would say that any bad one shouldn't be longer than Melo's. The problem with Anderson is that he has three years left two Melo's 2. If we have to take contracts that are longer than 2 years, they should be decent ones. If they aren't, then just hold on to Melo because his contract isn't bad anymore.
I think having Kanter here would hurt Willy's development
Deej : 7/21/2017 1:57 pm : link
so I dont want him.
It doesn't matter taking in contracts longer than Melo
GMEN46 : 7/21/2017 2:12 pm : link
We have Hardaway, Thomas, Lee and Noah all with 3 more years, no big free agent is signing the year after Melo's contract with that supporting cast. That's like $60 million locked into crap. Aditonally there is still a chance Melo opts out this year if has a good year, thinking he can prob sign one more decently sized contract. Again no one is sogning with the Knicks. They need to draft top flight young guys over next 3 years, take on bad contracts for more picks, like the Nets and Sixers did. Then have full flexibility in 3 years with a bunch of young talented players, that would entice free agents in their prime to sign.

I actually really like that trade for both teams.
I don't see Nets taking on Anderson
Eric on Li : 7/21/2017 3:35 pm : link
To take on Caroll (2 years 30M) the price was a non-lotto 1st and a high 2nd.

To take on Mozgov (3 years 48M) the price was Russell.

I just don't see any asset that would compel them to take on Anderson's 3 years 60M. If they get rid of Nicholson that brings the net cap hit more in the range of Mozgov, but there's still seemingly no asset HOU or NYK would give up that's in the ballpark of Russell. Also they'd lose all their space next year which looks to be a pretty good year for RFA's.

Spot on. Put aside RFAs for next year. The whole NBA world is talking about how a ton of teams are in lux tax territory for 2018-19. There are going to be picks available for taking 1 year deals next offseason.
