Once again....my initial thoughts after seeing this movie are I don't know what to think. My logic sensors in my brain signal wtf was that all about. My eyes and pleasure sensors say ohhh cool that looks really shiny...and then my logic sensor kicks back into gear and wants to kick a hole into the TV.
Why is Ridley Scott trying to reinvent the Alien universe while subsequently turning a SCI FI opus, teeming with all sorts of terror, nostalgia and potential into a jumbled mess of flawed logic and contradictions?
I don't even know where to begin with Covenant. It tries to be intelligent but just comes off as dumb, just like Prometheus. Fun to watch and never boring but so frustrating.
Am I wrong?
I watched Pro twice so I definitely didn't dislike it. It's shiny and pretty to look at and a genre I love but so damn flawed.
Both movies don't bore me but they are so ridiculous.
They took the whole mythology and tried to make it look smarter but while doing so injected it with some of the stupidest most illogical decision making ever made. And then they contradicted the entire saga with new plot lines. Ridley Scott.... Thanks for the 70s and early 80s.
If that's true, I'm not interested. Why can't they just have been fearsome creatures of origins unknown?
Next thing you know there will be Jaws prequels explaining how the shark came to be.

You're correct.
I could even live with that whole story line, as annoying as it might be, if they implemented something plausible. And yes it's annoying. They took imagination and fear and turned it into bullshit. Worse, they turned it into a flawed mess.
I'm probably in the minority here, but I expect his Blade Runner sequel to be shite too, for the same reasons. Trotting out a 75-y.o. Harrison Ford is going to be painful.
UNless he wasn't one after all...I don't want to know. I have hopes for the new BR. The director working this one is quality.
I thought so too. Personally I think deckard was initially intended to be human but the Ridley got cute and went along with the cult following theories. He just couldn't resist. I know the director's cut ending shows the other BR (olmos) leaving behind an origami unicorn which could lead one to believe deckard was a replicant...we'll see.
Think about Alien and Aliens - several characters were memorable, and you could feel an attachment to them as they faced horror and death
With both Prometheus and Covenant, I found myself basically rooting for all those dummies to die horribly
On that front, at least both movies delivered

Exactly. When I saw that Danny McBride was in convenant i figured great he's gonna provide that comic relief and realism that aliens had. Instead, they could have used anyone for Danny's role. I don't think he had one funny line or moment in the entire movie.

Your line about tries to be intelligent but just comes across as dumb sums both movies up perfectly
