oh well, i have a feeling he'll be back with a vengeance in 2019. I read he had some maturity issues, maybe a year on rehab and he can light things up when he returns.
report someone posted in twitter on Merandy after a recent game and it said he has a plus CU and a mid 90's (93 - 95) touched high 90's (97) FB.
I thought I read some reports prior that his FB sat high 80's/low 90's. I'm not confusing him with Harol, I know this was Merandy, is he legit solid C/U and mid-to-high 90's FB?

Merandy has always been a plus velocity guy.
Pre-2017 season
Merandy Gonzalez followed up his successful stateside debut down south last season with another excellent season, this time in front of the crowds in Coney Island. Gonzalez’s stocky frame doesn’t lend to much future projection, but the right-hander does not need much, as he already fits the profile of a starting pitcher. His fastball sits in the low-to-mid 90s, topping out as high as 97 MPH. The pitch has great life to it, but Gonzalez sometimes loses his control because he is unable to command it properly. Such bouts of ineffectiveness also had a negative impact on Gonzalez’ ability to stay on the field, as he sometimes was forced to leave starts early due to reaching organizational limits on pitches thrown per inning or per game.
While Gonzalez is a bit undersized at 6-foot-1, his arm is more than big enough. He pitched at 93 mph with Brooklyn but showed he can reach back for 96-97 mph. He'll throw a very good curveball and messes with a slider, and they will run into each other at times. He has the ability to throw an above-average breaking ball, and likes to throw it, so getting him to focus on one might help him developmentally. His changeup is developing, and he needs to throw it more often so it can improve. While he's generally around the strike zone, he does leave balls in the middle of the plate at times. With good athleticism and a repeatable delivery, his command should improve over time.
Dunn has been absolutely horrendous. Nowhere near MLB ready. He needs a good 2018 or he's likely headed to the bullpen. Conlon hasn't been particularly good either (4.15 FIP). Flexen is next. After him probably Molina (but he's now hurt as well). So Merandy or Crismatt I guess.
"It’s always nice to get a second in-season look at a pitcher. One start can show you what is possible, but subsequent ones help shade in some of the sparser outlines. When I saw Merandy in late June, I saw a shorter righty with a big arm, some command, and an advanced, if inconsistent, curve for the level. I liked Gonzalez as a prospect, but he wasn’t a hard scout. He reminded me a bit of 2012 Hansel Robles. Gonzalez is younger at the same level, and the raw stuff is a couple ticks better, but he is also rawer generally and lacks Robles’ feel for pitching.
In my second look Gonzalez struggled a bit. He lacked command of both the fastball and the curve in this outing and the issues got worse when he gassed in the fifth and sixth innings. However the change-up, which had been a total non-entity in the first start, at least flashed below-average a couple times. That sounds like damning with faint praise, but given what I saw in June (and the general state of offspeed in the Penn League), there is at least a bit of developmental potential peaking through. Early in this start, there were a lot more 95s on my gun than my previous look, and overall the four-seamer had a bit more life. The overall profile and projection hasn’t really changed, but the developmental path and potential pitfalls for Gonzalez are a bit clearer now."

Pretty barren. I hope Peterson will thrive in the minors
will throw 12-20 innings this year and hopefully show enough in extended that he skips to St. Lucie. Hopefully Dunn's struggles don't make scare them into sending Peterson to Columbia.
Medical ,Training ,conditioning and selection process. The whole thing.
Several teams have independent assessment of pitcher risk profile based on medical history but also biomechanical correlation to injured pitchers ...
They will drop them several rounds on their board if they think they are at risk... I still can't believe team like the Padres could take Cal Quantrill and pay him the full slot with the ninth pic with several clean players of similar profile available... The greatest Preductor of future injuries is past injuries
This is the time to break it up and rebuild on the fly Â
TDA has been better than Lucroy this year by a fair margin and in my opinion TDA has been a disappointment. We would all be hanging ourselves right now if we had given up talent to acquire Lucroy in the offseason.

WHat else is neW??? They seriously need new owners who want to WIN WIN WIN.
I don't think the Mets have to tear it down by any means Â
But it is going to require them to be active in free agency to a scope that they simply haven't been under Sandy which admittedly frightens me.
If it were me I think you need to trade Duda and see how Dominic Smith responds to mlb pitching in August and September. If that does not happen then I think you need to sign a Vet first baseman to start the year there simply because I don't think you can go into the season with a guy slotted to hit ten hole runs at first and hit 280. Frankly Bruce would fit this for me since you can move him to outfield when cespedes needs days off. If not there a vent of year year 8-10 million guy vets you can sign in January (I.e Carlos Santana, Napoli, Logan Morrison, Mooreland, etc). Also if he doesn't come up this year why not wait until at least end of April to keep an additional year of team control.
Next I think you have to hedge on starters a little but not a crazy amount. If you can bring in a tier 2 guy for say 12-15 a year I think you do that and slot them in #3. Thor - degrom - fa - Matz - Harvey. Move Lugo and montero to penn until you have injuries. Gsellman starts in minors and you sign one more AAAA pitcher for starting rotation depth. That gives you Lugo, Flexon, montero, vet, and flexon in wings. Depending on where some of these guys finish there really may be some high ceiling folks out there. Arritta, despite sucking, will still prob be too much, but Cobb or someone of that ilk that you can maybe get for 4/65 would be a nice lynch pin for this rotation. Short of that I don't think Tillman or helickson will get much. Honestly I would be comfortable with a dickey in the rotation and see if citi can keep more of those fly balls in the yard.
You are going to need to sign a legitimate set up guy, preferable reed albielt unlikely, and pay him 10+ a year. Can't keep trying to get elite performance off the 3-6 million dollar guys as that's been Sandys biggest issue (outside Blevin) since coming here. Oh that and letting Murphy walk and turner go. Don't think wade or Holland are in cards unless we tell Familia he is set up guy which I am not opposed to since it also lowers his Arb hit and doesn't give him incredible leverage against him when he hits FA.
I think you need to look at upgrading one of 2nd, 3rd, or catcher in free agency but only one. If you sign moustakas (who I have never loved) they you start season with Rivera/Flores at second. If you sign walker you may be able to sign Avila or possibly Lucroy as a bounce back if he only gets 2/3 years cause he has stunk. Long short is that you need to upgrade at one but not all three.
Lastly you sign Cain for center which immediately gives you a top of order threat and a legitimate center fielder. He is older so there is a small chance he could be had for three years although realistically probably 4 oils be required which means Mets would shy away.
All that gives you:
C - TDA (or Lucroy/Avila type depending on what we do at 2nd/3rd
1b - Bruce (smith in wings)
2b - FA (or Rivera/Flores/Cech)
Ss - Rosario (assuming he gets called up if not I would see how Reyes finishes and start him in minors for April)
3b - Fa (possibly mouse if not Rivera/Flores)
Rf - conforto
Cf - Cain
Lf - Cespedes
Bench
Flores
Backup catcher
Lagaras
Ceech (assuming he can spot fill SS errors and all)
nimmo
Starters
-
Thor
Degrom
Fa
Matz
Harvey
Bp
FA
Familia
Blevins (if we don't trade him)
Sewald
Lugo
Smoker (if tc doesn't break him again)
Montero (ugh)
To me that team can compete again at a high level. Problem will be starters help especially since Thor has had elbow problems and this stint hasn't been related to that, so we will be puckering up yet again about TJ for him.
Sucks bigtime.... hopefully we'll hear from this kid again at some point.
no word yet
Met's are cursed in Starting pitchers.
Should debut shortly. Only going to throw about a dozen innings.
Having a great season, some still think he's a reliever but we shall see. He doesn't waste pitches and throws strikes.

Anthony Kay. Should be ready to begin his career next ST

Pitching program, then limited innings. Normal for their college picks.

Yankees for Clint Frazier and Gleybar Torres
Or to Astros for their top two position prospects
Trade Duda and Bruce NOW for prospects
Say goodbye to Walker and Cabrera or see if there is a market for them
Make sure Cespedes isn't overplayed and save him for next year. He is the absolute key for the offense
Play TDA as a backup and go out and get a front line catcher Lucroy?
Rotation next year
Thor
Matz
Harvey
Wheeler
Get a lefty FA
Lugo and Gselman
Spend a lot of money on a stopper. Mets will have the payroll relief with no Grandy Walker Duda Cabrera About 50 million
Get a new manager
So if for arguments sake they trade Degrom to Yankees our 2018 lineup can look like this
Torres 2b
Rosario SS
Comforto RF
Cespedes LF
Smith 1b
Frazier CF
Lucroy C
Question mark at third base. TJ Rivera ??
