they need to keep tabs on some Vet Ks. Rosas is VERY unknown.
Wing has a great leg, but they need to get Feagles in to teach him how to direct his kicks more. A lot of his kicks last year were boomed, but badly placed.
I don't see how a team with supposed SB aspirations
Would love to see us use OBJ as the PR. When you have that kind of weapon I don't know why you wouldn't take advantage of it. The guy isn't just good at it, he's one of the best PR's you'll ever see.

Agreed. 2 TD's called back by penalty (both holding calls on Herzlich IIRC). PR's are a huge part of the game - gives you a chance to score a quick TD or get a huge chunk of yards. To just decide not to use a guy of that calibre for fear of injury or fatigue hurts the team. I would rather have OBJ returning punts and if he's tired, he can take the 1st couple offensive plays off (we are deep at WR).
When you've got a special player like this, you want the ball in his hands in the open field whenever possible. I do not want to hear injury BS.
use Beckham situationally as a PR now. I think it is fine to keep it like that.
As for Rosas, there is a lot to do about nothing. Both the Steelers and the Broncos have recently been in SB's with unproven kickers and if you look at the spread of best to worst PK's around the league, even the worst are serviceable.
I bet plenty of people were comfortable with Gould last year, yet having him meant poor kickoffs, a few missed XP's and McAdoo having to make tough decisions on anything longer than 45 yeard attempts.
I am glad that the Giants are finally giving a young kicker a chance to be the long term answer. As many have said if Rosas struggles then the Giants can always pick up a veteran after the preseason. Hopefully Rosas will be our kicker for the next 10+ years.
I wouldn't mind occasional/situational returns in tight div/conf games and playoffs, but not on regular basis.
IMO, it's not just the concern for a catastrophic Sehorn like injury, it's the increased potential for wear/tear and fatigue. He's too important to our offense to wear him down returning on a reg. basis, imo.
I think he needs to show it was just an injury last year that slowed him down and not the cumulative effect of the pounding he subjects his body to.
He really lost a step in the return game last year. His coverage was good, and i suppose you could do worse for your 5th/6th receiver, but if we're going to be a legit SB contender, we're gonna need more from the return game than he gave us last year.
I think Odell could be the best PR in the league. Giants need to use him in that role more often, especially when other team is backed up and more likely to max protect, giving odell more space to work with and less chance for bang-bang big collisions.

I've never understood this. Why is a punt return any less important than an offensive play? It's a rare opportunity to get the ball to your most explosive player, in space. I'd argue it's more important than an offensive play because the real potential for a quick 6 is right there.
It might also be the punt and kick coverage game. I imagine it will be as usual: a unit that looks better than it is for much of the season simply because returning kicks and punts for positive yardage is hard unless the entire coverage team falls down, but at least three times during the season they'll cost the team dearly.

no flashbacks of Sehorn???
unfortunately, this is the first thing that came to mind.
Odell should not be back there unless the Giants are losing late in the 4th quarter.

no, the point is well taken you put the ball in OBJ's hands.
The biggest problem w/the Special Teams is the ST Coach
Got hurt, it's hard to not consider it when discussing Beckham returning punts.
It was one of the most devasting moments the Giants have experienced. To blow out a knee on his very first return, following the questions of was it worth the risk, was shocking.
I know injuries are part of the game, and I know how effective he can be, but I d rather they find someone else.

I also don't see how they can justify Harris' $$ as strictly a STer. He certainly isn't going to see snaps at WR.

I was psyched when they put Sehorn back there on kick returns..looking back, it ruined his career.
That being said, he's obviously a huge weapon on punt returns.
I am sure Quinn will be a good judge of whether Rosas can hack it. Afterall, it's his ass on the line as the ST Coach.
Oh...I forgot he is irreplaceable...
To me, it's akin to not riding the Subway because you're afraid of terrorist attacks. Can't live like that, can't coach like that. IMO.

Yeah, can we put the Sehorn thing to bed once and for all?
Sheesh.
I wouldn't mind having OBJ do to other teams what guys like Desean Jackson have been doing to us for years.

Someday we wont have him anymore and we'll all say "how come the Giants couldn't figure out how to get him the ball more?"

Although Belichick would probably use him.
