A healthy Castro is an all-star, so it's a little early for Wade. Great having someone that talented to take over, his lousy stats in his first try notwithstanding. He will get much stronger over the next couple of years.
Btw, for all of the Headley critics (and that includes me), he has been pretty much raking of late--.320 in the past 36 games. His entire approach seems to have changed; getting a lot more bat speed. I noticed that yesterday--he got around on a chest-high 96 mph fastball and just missed keeping it fair. Must be keeping his weight back a lot longer. Average up from .232 June 7 to .263 now.
is also sitting on the bench for the second game in a row. Hopefully the team is moving away from him and can use his roster spot to protect one of the rule-5 guys that they will certainly lose after the season.

Of the reasons I would not be willing to let Mateo go, I have little faith in Castro. He is a bad second baseman, injury prone, and swings at bad pitches all the time, he will never learn to be a more selective hitter. I would not pay him big money on a long term deal, no way.
Very wise of Girardi to have matt Holiday as our clean up hitter, especially when you have such bad choices as Gary Sanchez. I have not thought he has put out the best lineup once the entire season, I have never seen as poorly run team as I have seen by Girardi this season. He has been absolutely brutal this year.
Yeah, I have to agree with you that Tanaka has been very good the last two years but I don't think he dominates the hitters like he did in 2014. One can believe that without the arm trouble he might have even improved from his rookie season when he was dominant. His E.R.A. and strikeouts per inning in 2014 were his career bests. He has most definitely regressed this year and most likely will not be back next year.
on Cruz's infield single that inning ends a lot sooner though. Not impressed so far.
I'm not impressed either. But Headley never touches that ball.
This is alll about Tanaka.l, everything else is noise
Frazier has been an absolute zero so far but not surprising really. Tanaka just brutal 26 homers allowed tied most in the league just isn't going to get it done.

Yep, and Fraizer only cost the team a premium prospect.

Tanaka would have to opt out no? I dont see him walking away from a 22 milliin dollar salary to test free agency after the year he has had and the injury concerns he has

If you think Frazier was the centerpiece of that deal, you're crazy.

Yes, he would have to opt out. If I were his agent, I still MIGHT tell him to opt out now anyway. I think someone would give him 4 years x 15m. That's locking in $38m that might never come if next year's opt-in is shitty.
I think he will opt out looking for a long term deal that the Yankees,I believe, would be very hesitant to give him. I guess we'll see how he finishes out this season.
It's like he's got that bipolar pitching disorder. Needs to shit the bed to lock it down. Good thing Sevy turned a corner, he's a #1. Tanaka just needs to hold it 1 out of every 4 beds...
just like Frazier. He needs a little more loft and he'd be up to about 7 homers so far. The kid isn't going anywhere. If anything he is forcing making the decision to swallow dead money alot easier.
didn't exactly come through there. Eeesh. Brutal game.
Sometimes you have to tip your cap to the other guy. We know how good a hitter Cano is
Sure. But you still have to come through in this part of the season. This team hasn't won a series since early June, almost 2 full months ago. Tired of tipping the cap these past 2 months. It's time to win against a not-so-good team.

I'd blame it more on Tanaka giving up HRs to guys like Zunino and Gamel who have no business hitting them out than DRob giving up an oppo shot to Cano on a good fastball just off the corner

Sure, Tanaka put us in a hole, I agree. But good hitting or not, Robertson did not come through right there. I'm not criticizing him or down on him now, but it's what happened.
because it was close. But the comments about ankles and mid shin are just not correct. IT also doesn't matter that the catcher had to move across the plate to catch it because it caught about 1/4 of the plate. The ump was terrible especially on the call to Frazier. This one may or may not have been a ball, but it was close.
I'd love to see it again to be sure, but every replay I saw had the ball at about the pants line, which was at the bottom of his knee.

Above the knee. Above the knee of the actual hitter in the box. I'd love to see that start getting called.
I could see us doing another trade by the deadline.
Either way, Smith will make the first start of his big-league career after a terrific campaign in the minors in which the 25-year-old went 8-0 with a 2.07 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 87 innings in 16 games (15 starts) at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season.

Starlin Castro headed back to DL after reinjuring hamstring

Some posted it on twitter but I wasn't able to verify, so I didn't want to put it out there. But, WFAN is legit. That fucking blows.

Yes, same hamstring injury. It's a 10-day DL stint again.

Pretty unreal.
That won't happen. Joe has a pretty significant man crush on Torreyes.

What so we do with this guy then? Tanaka seemingly has to be a starter, no?
He was fantastic last season and the year before. So I've got to disagree there

Right?? A little bitter. Never thought Gamel would be anything good
Is there any chance we get a well pitched game trying to win the series after failing for over a month?

In Cessa we trust? Or is it Mitchell?
Pitch All the relievers 2 innings if needed
Start Frazier again. Use Ellsbury as a pinch runner again. Etc.

It was below the knees and the catchet had to move across the entire plate to catch the ball. That shouldve been ball 4 all day.
I'd love to see it again to be sure, but every replay I saw had the ball at about the pants line, which was at the bottom of his knee.

Definitely seems like it. I like it. Cessa sucks.
