In the last ten tries. Castro gets a rest day. But, the lineup looks solid:

Let's go Yanks.

That won't happen. Joe has a pretty significant man crush on Torreyes.
Wade is just a kid--22.
manh george : 7/22/2017 7:22 pm : link
A healthy Castro is an all-star, so it's a little early for Wade. Great having someone that talented to take over, his lousy stats in his first try notwithstanding. He will get much stronger over the next couple of years.

Btw, for all of the Headley critics (and that includes me), he has been pretty much raking of late--.320 in the past 36 games. His entire approach seems to have changed; getting a lot more bat speed. I noticed that yesterday--he got around on a chest-high 96 mph fastball and just missed keeping it fair. Must be keeping his weight back a lot longer. Average up from .232 June 7 to .263 now.

New story about Castro/Wade linked.

Probably won't happen. During his last cup of coffee, Joe made him the swing, with Torreyes as the everyday 2B. Plus he only hit .108.

Wade is by far the best defensive 2B on the team.

PaulN : 7/22/2017 8:50 pm : link
Of the reasons I would not be willing to let Mateo go, I have little faith in Castro. He is a bad second baseman, injury prone, and swings at bad pitches all the time, he will never learn to be a more selective hitter. I would not pay him big money on a long term deal, no way.

Very wise of Girardi to have matt Holiday as our clean up hitter, especially when you have such bad choices as Gary Sanchez. I have not thought he has put out the best lineup once the entire season, I have never seen as poorly run team as I have seen by Girardi this season. He has been absolutely brutal this year.

Yeah, I have to agree with you that Tanaka has been very good the last two years but I don't think he dominates the hitters like he did in 2014. One can believe that without the arm trouble he might have even improved from his rookie season when he was dominant. His E.R.A. and strikeouts per inning in 2014 were his career bests. He has most definitely regressed this year and most likely will not be back next year.

Frazier has been an absolute zero so far but not surprising really. Tanaka just brutal 26 homers allowed tied most in the league just isn't going to get it done.

Yes, he would have to opt out. If I were his agent, I still MIGHT tell him to opt out now anyway. I think someone would give him 4 years x 15m. That's locking in $38m that might never come if next year's opt-in is shitty.

Sure. But you still have to come through in this part of the season. This team hasn't won a series since early June, almost 2 full months ago. Tired of tipping the cap these past 2 months. It's time to win against a not-so-good team.

I'd blame it more on Tanaka giving up HRs to guys like Zunino and Gamel who have no business hitting them out than DRob giving up an oppo shot to Cano on a good fastball just off the corner

To Clint Frazier
That fucking low ass strike

That was an atrocious call against Judge
dpinzow : 7/23/2017 12:30 am : link
Below his knees
Two garbage punch outs.
bceagle05 : 7/23/2017 12:31 am : link
Brutal job by the home plate ump. Kills the inning.
That really wasn't an egregious call
Matt M. : 7/23/2017 12:32 am : link
It looked to me like it was right across the knees. If it was low, it was barely low.
The on to Frazier
Matt M. : 7/23/2017 12:32 am : link
I thought was a ball.
Sick and tired of these horseshit strike calls at Judge's ankles

This ump

Umps only for the base pads
Warren in all kinds of trouble
dpinzow : 7/23/2017 12:36 am : link
Gamel doubles and they have to intentionally walk Cano, but Nelson Cruz is up

Changes the AB.

Game over.

Is there any chance we get a well pitched game trying to win the series after failing for over a month?
Brutal loss.
Dave in Hoboken : 7/23/2017 12:39 am : link
I'm actually beginning to wonder if this team wins another series this season. It's been almost 2 full months now. That is incredible.
Whoever this ump is
B in ALB : 7/23/2017 12:39 am : link
Needs to find another job. Horrible.

In Cessa we trust? Or is it Mitchell?
Cessa?
bceagle05 : 7/23/2017 12:41 am : link
Might as well get on the plane tonight.
Shitty called third strikes on Frazier and Judge
Greg from LI : 7/23/2017 12:41 am : link
Followed by that monstrosity. So many terrible umps.
Tomorrow should be managed as if it's game 7 of the WS imo
DennyInDenville : 7/23/2017 12:43 am : link
We need this Series

Pitch All the relievers 2 innings if needed

Start Frazier again. Use Ellsbury as a pinch runner again. Etc.

Greg - that was nowhere near his ankles. IT's right at or just below the knees.

It was below the knees and the catchet had to move across the entire plate to catch the ball. That shouldve been ball 4 all day.
I have no problem if you think that pitch was low
Matt M. : 7/23/2017 2:28 am : link
because it was close. But the comments about ankles and mid shin are just not correct. IT also doesn't matter that the catcher had to move across the plate to catch it because it caught about 1/4 of the plate. The ump was terrible especially on the call to Frazier. This one may or may not have been a ball, but it was close.

I'd love to see it again to be sure, but every replay I saw had the ball at about the pants line, which was at the bottom of his knee.
Caleb Smith will make his first ML start Sunday
shockeyisthebest8056 : 7/23/2017 2:53 am : link
instead of Luis Cessa.

Above the knee. Above the knee of the actual hitter in the box. I'd love to see that start getting called.
I could see us doing another trade by the deadline.

Caleb Smith starting today

Instead of Cessa. Kind of came out of nowhere. Wonder if this is an audition for Smith as a potential trade piece they are discussing

Definitely seems like it. I like it. Cessa sucks.

Seems like a guy to keep around for long relief in blow outs
Caleb Smith looked OK last time out.

I don't know what they see in Cessa.
Seems impressive

Either way, Smith will make the first start of his big-league career after a terrific campaign in the minors in which the 25-year-old went 8-0 with a 2.07 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 87 innings in 16 games (15 starts) at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season.
