then Todd Frazier chases a breaking ball away on the first pitch to hit a weak fly ball to right. Not a big fan of him in the lineup so far
It's just 14 ABs
Kyle in NY : 7/23/2017 4:31 pm : link

manh george : 7/23/2017 5:28 pm : link
By the time he is 24, that ball will be in the 12th row. The kid is monster strong, and world-class athletic. He really impresses me a lot. What a collection the Yanks are going to have.

Mateo .360/.439/.628 in 99 plate appearances since being promoted to AA. Reached base in all 22 games. And how about these:

Domingo Acevedo (RHP) remains undefeated with the Thunder (4-0) with a 2.32 ERA in 54 1/3 innings with Trenton.
Zack Littell (RHP) is 5-0 with Trenton with a 2.25 ERA in 40 innings in Double-A (14-1 overall, 1.94 ERA in combined 111 1/3 innings).

Thairo Estrada (2B/SS) continues to pace the Thunder with 112 hits and his .315 average is tied for third in the Eastern League.

And at AAA:

Miguel Andujar (3B) is pounding the ball over his last nine games with three home runs, while hitting .412 (14-for-34) during the stretch. Andujar looks like a player to me.

Giovanny Gallegos (RHP) has thrown nine shutout innings across five appearances since returning from the disabled list. Gallegos has allowed just two hits, walked none and struck out 14 in the stretch.

Jake Cave (OF) has been an absolute offensive force over his last 10 games, hitting .444, with four home runs and 13 RBIs.

Billy McKinney (OF) has elevated his game since his promotion. He is hitting .339 with a .379 on-base percentage and a .613 slugging percentage in 66 plate appearances.

What a collection. We will need to make more trades of guys we would otherwise lose to Rule 5.

I was checking in how Clippard has done with the White Sox. He's already blown 2 games for them and the Sox as a whole haven't since the trade. He's faced a total of 5 batters and retired 1.
Great series, Yanks needed that win today
mfsd : 7/23/2017 8:04 pm : link
As everyone else is saying - Clint Frazier has to stay and has to play. When Hicks is back, get back to the 4 man OF rotation, except this time with Frazier instead of Ellsbury. That gives us a chance to let Judge get the occasional DH game or day off, and sit Gardy against tough lefties

Headley's splits tell the tale - as a lefty hitter, he still has a .382 OBP and .785 OPS...but a .549 OPS as a righty. He's still OK as a platoon player. Yeah he's pretty mediocre wherever he plays in the field now, but we don't have many other options.
Ok
djm : 7/23/2017 8:11 pm : link
Moving on...
Headley is probably tenth on the list of problems with the yanks
djm : 7/23/2017 8:13 pm : link
He's an average player when all said and done. Maybe slightly above or below if you want to split hairs but pretty much average. He's necessary for now. Won't be forever.

Let's keep on winning.
Boston brought up Devers instead of trading for Frazier.
Jim in Hoboken : 7/23/2017 8:18 pm : link
Why are we trying to fill in mistakes with new mistakes?

So far, objectively speaking, we have one GM who can't win without a hefty payroll and a manager who can't win unless he has five aces in the bullpen.

Let's do something different, let's see what the youngsters can do. The Sawx are contending with a pretty young team, let's not mortgage the future for middling vets.

Are you fucking serious with this bullshit? The Sox gave up their best prospects for Sale. They also traded good prospects for Pomeranz. And signed fat ass Panda for a billion dollars. The Yankees meanwhile have called up a TON of prospects. But Boston calls up one guy AFTER FAILING TO LAND FRAZIER, which they tried to do, and they are the gold standard? Because the Yankees traded an A ball player for bullpen help? If you think Frazier was anything other than a throw in in that deal, you're even more clueless than you are coming across as being with this stupid ass post
I wonder if Holliday ends up being the odd man out.
bceagle05 : 7/23/2017 8:40 pm : link
That DH spot could be key in breaking the outfield logjam and keeping the best bats in the lineup. There could come a time in September when our lineup is eight or nine deep:

1). Gardy LF
2). Hicks CF
3). Judge RF
4). Sanchez C
5). C. Frazier DH
6). Didi SS
7). Bird 1B
8). Castro 2B
9). Headley/T. Frazier 3B

With our ridiculous bullpen and one more starter (I think Cash acquires one), we'd have a team that could make some serious noise.

lol not to pile on but thats some nonsense. The Sox? they've been trading and discussing their prospects like its a tag sale since Dombrowski got there. The Yanks have used like 20 guys from AAA this year. That post almost rivaled the winner this morning who wanted to DFA Frazier and Holliday.

Hey numbskull - we would have called up Gleyber Torres instead of trading for Frazier had Torres not been lost for the season to a freak injury.
Todd Frazier was a thrown in
EddieNYG : 7/23/2017 8:49 pm : link
He was not the centerpiece of the deal. Tommy Kahnle was the price acquisition along with getting Robertson back. Geez!

This guy obviously is oblivious to the fact that Boston was very close to trading for Frazier. They were trying very hard. Chicago decided they liked the Yankees offer more. So to suggest that they called up Devers instead of trading for Frazier is utter nonsense. They tried trading for Frazier!
There's a fear of bringing up youngsters too early...

...and fucking up their confidence when has a trickle down effect on their mechanics. The Yankees would've been reluctant to bring up Torres had he not been injured and the Sox were reluctant to bring up Devers. Devers is plan C for them, something they were hoping too avoid.
p.s.--Meanwhile Yoan Moncada--the #1 prospect in baseball--is hitting .077 since being called up.

Had the Sox included Devers, you think those players would be here?

All I am saying is we can't dump more prospects for another 1B or a starter just to compete with the Sox this year. They are young as well, we have to compete against them for the long haul.

My god, it's like I am posting on board full of high schoolers. Pipe down, what's the big fucking deal if somebody doesn't agree with you?

Because you have no idea what you're talking about. Your post basically said that we should do it like the Sox. Your entire post was full of bullshit, false statements. Own up to it. Don't call other people high schoolers for calling out your ignorance. Every single thing about your post was off base and blatantly wrong. Blame yourself, not everyone else.

Good posters with differing opinions.

Boston did what we are doing now a couple years ago. They got a young core in place. They even tried to stock the pitching rotation with prospects, but a mix of injury and failure sent them scrambling to the trade and FA markets. We are getting that core put together and early returns are great, pitching is a big question but we have the money and the pieces to round things out if our kids falter. I just hope we don't go full throttle on a trade spree before we are actually competitive because we could end up like the Sox, good but without the real prospect ammo to put us over the top. Chicago had it last year and used it, though this year they are short in follow on talent and the pieces to plug holes.
When did I say we should do it like the Sox?
Jim in Hoboken : 7/23/2017 10:21 pm : link
I said I liked that they brought up Devers only. I never said the Sox always retain their prospects, I can see as well as you do that they tended to trade prospects for veterans under Dombrowski.

Last I checked they've had more championship rings lately than we do.

I am not jumping all over the last trade because I am secretly hoping that maybe Cash and co. just soured on Rutherford. However, under no circumstances do I want to see Mateo and others traded for Darvish, Gray, or Bour.

Good post Dune, as usual. And I apologize to Jim for getting "snippy". I just cannot stand the narrative that Boston does everything right and the Yankees screw everything up. The Yankees have done a fantastic job rebuilding the system and bringing up the young guys when they are ready. Boston has traded most of their system in the past couple of years and absolutely would have traded for Frazier had the Yankees not stepped in at the last minute. Boston gets enough inaccurate love and affection from the media for being loveable, blue collar, low budget over achievers that it drives me insane when I see Yankee fans buying that nonsense.

Jim in Hoboken : 7/23/2017 10:33 pm : link
he let the minor league system flounder for too long and for most of his tenure couldn't do anything with one of the highest payrolls. He's been doing a better job lately, in large part because we became sellers down the stretch for a change.

Yankee fans should remember, for years our system sucked. The current embarrassment of riches isn't what we are used to and Cash shouldn't be trading the current prospects for rentals when, given some patience and prudence, these prospects can do the same jobs at fraction of the cost.
Yeah, Gamel was a pain in the ass.

and probably give up a prospect or two we're gonna hate to see go. The front office will conclude that one more arm + deep bullpen + healthier lineup will be enough to make us contenders.

Cashman was also over ruled many times by the Tampa segment. Cashman wanted no part of ARod signing that contract. He was overruled. Cashman has wanted to go this direction for a long time and was finally able to talk the clowns upstairs into letting him do it. Your anger is directed in the wrong direction.
Yeah, Cash wanted to deal Cano and Robertson
bceagle05 : 7/23/2017 10:41 pm : link
to replenish the farm, and was overrruled. Now Hal can't get enough of the Baby Bombers, who he's been pimping all year.

Let me preface my post with I love Cash, he's a superb GM and don't love this mythical "Tampa Crew" Hal, Randy Levine etc...However there's a little too much of framing every bad move we've made over the past 10 years as something Cash was against and over ruled on. He has to take the bad with the good. He's been the GM here for 20 years. He has now set us up for a great chance at a contending run.
Not every bad move was something forced on Cash
Greg from LI : 7/24/2017 10:20 am : link
But he did want to start a rebuild several years before the higher-ups would allow it, and he did want to trade Robertson and Cano rather than letting them walk. Only last year, when it was obvious by midseason that they weren't a playoff contender, did he get the green light to sell. I think it's been pretty well established that the Yankees hierarchy will never sell if there's any chance, however remote, of making the playoffs.
