NGT: Cowboy WR Lucky Whitehead arrested shoplifting-warrant

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Lucky Whitehead was arrested in Virginia in June for shoplifting -- and now a warrant has been issued for his arrest ... TMZ Sports has learned.

The 25-year-old was busted in Prince William County, VA on June 22 for shoplifting/petit larceny under $200. We're told Whitehead allegedly took stuff from a convenience store.

He was ordered to appear in court on July 6, but according to court records he didn't show up -- so a warrant was issued for his arrest. He's since been charged for failure to appear.

but with the fishbowl the Cowboys are in, everything has to be weighing down on them. I mean if they win the East with the competition at hand and the problems they have created for themselves, I'd be surprised for sure.
Let's put the shoplifting aside for sec

you have to really question the decision making of someone who skips a court date and think nothings going to come of it.

Dope..
It's a misdemeanor...
Dunedin81 : 7/24/2017 3:51 pm : link
are they going to extradite his ass from Texas for a misdemeanor? Might need to make sure the team hotel for the Skins game is in Maryland though.
It's ok, I am sure we have all made a similar mistake back in the day

Honestly I could not care less
pjcas18 : 7/24/2017 4:04 pm : link
what the law does to him for shoplifting.

I care what the league/team does.

Garrett sounded pissed about just finding out about this today. Apparently from the tweets I've seen referencing Garrett this happened in June, not today.

He even hinted at release.

Now I don't think Lucky Whitehead is Devin Hester, but anything that screws up a rival teams depth chart a week less than a week from training camp opening is a good thing IMO.

except some injuries, I don't root for injuries, that's bad karma, but arrests or suspensions, I'm fine with (from a on-field standpoint).
They've had their share this year...
Dunedin81 : 7/24/2017 4:08 pm : link
generally speaking player misconduct is on the decline, I'll be interested to see what (if anything) the league does to address the sudden one-team spike.

Agree, though I don't think there could ever be enough or too much I'd feel bad for them. Just like I wouldn't expect any compassion from Cowboys or any Giants rival tea, fans if the situations were reversed
Amazing how a player can be this stupid

You're talking about a player making ~$500k a year that shoplifted <$200 worth of stuff. Doesn't exactly scream mensa candidate...

They drafted his replacement this year
DCOrange : 7/24/2017 6:00 pm : link
He was going to be cut anyway. This makes it easier and quicker. Career over too as there is no market for small marginal players whose role can be filled with a rookie free agent. Contract was probably back loaded so he made $750K or so, cleared $500K and will be broke in two years. Once they drafted his replacement you would have thought he'd wise up and keep his name out of the papers. Hopefully he'll stick around a bit longer as his nighttime running partner is Zeke so there is still time to get in more trouble.

Was that wrong?

Should I have not done that?

I tell you, I gotta plead ignorance on this thing because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here with the Dallas Cowboys that that sort of thing was frowned upon, you know, ‘cause I've played a lot of football and I tell you it seems like Cowboy players seem to do this all the time."

I was joking about this the other day.

It's completely out of hand. Garrett should be the coach of the year by a landslide if he can hold that locker room together and get into the playoffs with all this crap going on.

Re: Whitehead - They already drafted Switzer. Switzer was going to make the team if he was healthy. It's a lot easier to cut an UDFA like Whitehead then Zeke who is a cornerstone of the team.

I don't think the optics here help the cowboys or the Zeke situation.

Get your sh#t under control Jerrah. The inmates are running the asylum and everyone else is laughing and enjoying it.

Matt in SGS : 7/24/2017 10:04 pm : link
ie- the Kareem Serageldin of the Cowboys (feel free to google that one to get the jist).

With all the pressure on Dallas to at least pretend like they give a shit about following the rules and not flaunting suspensions by paying off everyone within shouting distance of Elliott, here comes Whitehead as an easy target for Dallas to get tough and send a message. A backup WR who's position as a return man is probably taken by the rookie Switzer anyway. But it's ok everyone, Jerruh has given everyone their pound of flesh. Dallas won't tolerate crap like this on their team!

allstarjim : 7/24/2017 10:41 pm : link
“We believe in the structure and we hope that anybody we choose to bring to our team can be the right kind of guy,” Garrett said at the scouting combine. “We believe strongly in that. It starts with makeup . It starts with personal character and football character. That’s what every evaluation of any college player, any of the players we would have on our team right now or any player we’re thing about bring on our team in free agency. We haven’t wavered on that. I think if you look at our football team and anybody who’s around our football team knows the kind of character we have on our team. We have as good a character football team as I’ve been around throughout my career. Just cornerstone type guys who do everything the right way on the field and off the field.”

Speaking at the opening press conference for training camp on Saturday in Oxnard, Calif., Jones said that the Cowboys have a "high bar" for the people who they will allow on their roster. Jason Garrett added the team has been built on "character" guys.

I'm now reading that the charges have been dropped by police for get this, "they had the wrong guy".

Supposedly Whitehead wasn't even in the state of VA at the time of the crime.

Very unlucky for Lucky.

You'd think the Cowboys would be smart enough to investigate that before dropping him though!

it happens. Just ironic that the Cowboys chose him for their scapegoat and he was the one guy who was actually innocent.

a declining Ray Rice attacks his wife, he's blacklisted. A still performing Adrian Peterson abuses his kid, he ends up back on the field.

Reale01 : 7/25/2017 12:58 pm : link
Guy is innocent. They don't investigate and scapegoat him. Keep all sorts of others on team. Even after the fact they won't back down from their ignorance. Garrett says that the fact that he got off doesn't matter. They said this incident is part of a continuing pattern. LOL

Pattern of what? Innocence?

I guess they want only real criminals - not posers.

Should just not say anything....

Garrett also had this to say on Whitehead's maturity: "When you have someone in your program, in this environment, in this structure, and they don't grow and develop and they make the same mistakes over and over again, it's time to move on."

Quote:
“There’s a certain way that we want to handle ourselves on and off the field. There’s a standard that we have,” Garrett said. “We believe very strongly in adhering to those standards and trying to uphold them each and every day in everything that we do.
