when it comes to New York sports? I'm not sure he even likes or follows sports from many of his articles. He seems to just hang out in sports bars and listen for the most sensational opinion offered and then blindly regurgitate it for attention.
That 2011 preview is priceless! What a spectacular failure that just gets funnier over time.
So tell me, Gary, since I can't muster the desire to read your piece:
where members of the media in this town take themselves way too seriously and at the same time make shit up to suit their BS narrative. They literally create shit out of thin air and then drive it home at every turn. Create a narrative, then use any means necessary to perpetuate that narrative. It's bad enough we have to sift through the BS just to get actual content but to watch some of these shit birds build something that came from nothing into a full fledged onslaught is very frustrating.
Many people know better than to believe everything they read. Far too many do not.
He was using them as example of Stars who made bad decisions.
I think the article was more about Myers telling OBJ that this upcoming season is a big one for him and that he needs to grow up a bit. I don't have a problem with that at all. He has had his immature moments.

Literally nothing Odell has done is even in the stratosphere that Doc and Darryl did. Whats the point of writing this article, especially after what he did this weekend? It's a smear job by a bitter old man.
and I have one on this one. But what this blowhard did this time is a bridge too far for me . Comparing a 23 yo who's greatest sin is showing too much emotion to Darly/Doc who have/had severe illnesses is immoral and a fireable offense to me.
Just an awful piece. Tries to be cutesy with advice
by slamming him every step of the way on his actions...sometimes with cheap shots and hints of being disengenuous too.
Even suggests the great LT left us short-changed because he could have been even greater. Like the greatest defensive player ever left us fans as saying "what if...".
The article gives you everything you want to know about defining Myers as one of the biggest tools in sports media today...or ever.
He puts himself out there in social media for all to see. He has to deal with the good and bad repercussions of his desire for attention. Some love his flamboyance....others wish he would shut up and row.
Nothing extreme about the article. But the thread title is really poor.
* "Tom Coughlin must be fired"....Result: Coughlin wins 2 Super Bowls and is on his way to becoming a Hall of Fame Coach.
* "Eli is the better QB now, but at the end of 2011 Mark Sanchez will be the better QB".....Result: Eli wins 2 Super Bowls, is named MVP in both and is on his way to the Hall of Fame career. Sanchez is bounced from team to team and is now a borderline back-up....
Odell's maturity issues are such a significant issue
because TMZ style reporters like Gary Myers do everything they can to keep the issue in front of the public. If Odell is an issue, Myers can write his Page 6 columns and feel like a kid with a cookie. If people just watch the games and evaluate what happens on the field, Gary Myers and his ilk have nothing to contribute to the discussion.
If we're thinking about the same article, that was Pat Leonard of the NYDN.
As I mentioned in the last podcast, some in the media have already decided that Odell is going to be a problem. It's click bait.
Makes their jobs easy if he is a problem. If he goes about his business without any Josh Norman incidents and finishes with 100/1500/12, they'll have nothing to write about (I guess then they'll stir shit up about contract issues...).
Strawberry and Gooden battled substance abuse for most of their careers and retirement. Odell has some issues with temperament but he's nowhere near as problematic
Strawberry came up very young and was very good, but never as good as we hoped he'd be. (OPS often over .900 in his Met years, but BA not that high.) As good as he was, he was never an OBJ-type star. He was kind of a big baby at times but I don't remember Daryl being a problem on the field.
Gooden came up even younger, and was better than anyone imagined. He was comparable to OBJ; both were/are performing at an all-time great level on their arrival. On the field, Gooden was preternaturally mature from the day he arrived. Can't remember any on-the-field incidents with him as a Met.
OBJ has performed at a historic level but had on-the-field maturity issues. I think he's been very immature at times and done some stupid shit but there's no sign that he's into anything illegal off the field. Does he need to grow up? Sure. A lot of guys his age do. So?
Sure, Odell irritates me sometimes with his behavior. But seriously? Comparing him to two drug-addled pro athletes still struggling to hold onto their legacies before they relapse and OD ... awful.
I think the Daily News has decided to run with the "Odell is a problem" narrative this summer.
Yes. Well all of this is a bit of an intelligence test for Beckham. Given all the drama, if he cannot figure out what he needs to do this season and not what to do, then I think it will provide some insight on what he is. A producer teammate or a peacock?

Intelligence test? And why exactly should Beckham give two craps about what an old crotchety hack like Gary Myers thinks about him? Pffft
I think it's more of an intelligence test for the fans that want to allow the overbearing and overly dramatic media to tell you how you should feel about a player that they can't relate to. It says more about you (and the media) than it does Beckham.
The most accurate post ever.

Myers did argue with Carton that Odells maturity is the number one storyline that could derail the season.
Not the offensive line.

Myers said similar when he was on with Carton.

So has the Post, saw an article comparing Aaron Judge and his humility and respect for the game as an anti-Odell. Completely stupid.
Odell is guilty of one dust-up with Norman and being a passionate, wear-emotions-on-his-sleeve player. That's it.
Yeah, but he also took his obligatory shot at Eli, so fuck him three times, too.
Gary should start by wiping the corners of his mouth
Sure, Odell irritates me sometimes with his behavior. But seriously? Comparing him to two drug-addled pro athletes still struggling to hold onto their legacies before they relapse and OD ... awful.
