Are his numbers this year legit or an outlier?

What's the deal with Alonso?

Outlier. Big time.
I'll be so pissed if this trade goes down and we give up what they seem to be demanding. We are praying Gray can turn the clock back and I don't like gambling our future on that.
Headley has been good against RHP AND better then Frazier imo

In that case, Gray better be the fucking second coming...

Agreed 100% I don't want Gray or Alonso if it involves any of our big names like Florial or Mateo .. a package of our 10-20th prospects should get it done but teams seem to wanna trade with the Yankees and get our big names ..
Chicago was very reasonable with us imo.
His haircut is for shit though.

It amazes me the ease these kids get 98-100 these days. It looks effortless.

And he'll eventually be injured soon..
Sounds like Chris Carter territory.
+1
Torres and Frazier aren't going anywhere for Gray.
Bases loaded, no out.
Soft liner to short, fielded on a short hop by the SS.
Flips to second, onto first for the DP.
First baseman throws back to third - Didi was hung up between second and third because he thought the liner might be caught.
Bases loaded, Frazier hits one pretty well to short, Didi holds up in case it's caught, it's not, they turn a dp and then get Didi in a rundown for a triple play
Low line drive that SS short hopped. Didi at first went back to 3nd, so after the Reds turned the normal DP, Didi got hung up between 2nd and 3rd, called out for going out of the baseline, but they'd have had him anyhow.
Did you know he was on the Toms River Little League World Series team? Took a picture with Jeter and everything.
That's obviously because you don't follow guys further down in the system. And I'm not saying that they are off limits. But all in the same deal for Sonny Gray? No thanks. I get it, it will take guys like that in this market, but I'm not willing to do it for Sonny Gray.

We're contending today. I'd say it's pretty clear this team can contend. Both the winning and losing streaks aren't exclusively true reads of this team but they are what their record says they are. And what if they feast here at home? The AL east is flawed...take it.

I follow them all, checking the stats for SWB, Trenton, and Charleston every day. And the Yankees farm system is well-enough stocked that they can withstand the loss of Florial, Mateo, and Acevedo (who are good prospects, but years away), especially if you believe the future of the outfield is Frazier, Hicks, and Judge.
Here you go:
Run scoring triple play - ( New Window )

You want to post the 1B that we currently have that is posting better offensive #s than Alonso's .264/.363/.535 with 21 homers?

I'm thinking long term, not a single year fix here, so I'd give Bird one more shot at the job next year before making a permanent switch at 1st. We are short of pitching so Gray fills both an immediate and long-term need
Yup, bring in someone!
Cozart was injured
Praying for more runs, as Chapman/Votto scares me.
When he can throw strikes consistently he deserves the 8th inning job back. Till then he's gotta earn it.
Stupid comment. This is obviously a problem. He has really hurt this team for a while now and showing no signs of fixing it. He can't control his pitches. Its mental.

It was his first outing allowing runs since the Toronto meltdown. He's been getting back to what he was. You've already told us how you can't stand him.
Guy's been maybe the best reliever in the league since he came up. A bad stretch and everybody is ready to give up on him. Tough
Kay is right. Why did he go to Betrances when the guy he replaced pitched to one guy and he's right handed also. Plus the Yanks have a one o'clock game tomorrow.
100% agree. I think we are reaching but it sure does feel that way lol.
Ya know, I had a similar thought. You can tell when YES gets the green light to turn up the heat on someone.
Okay, this made me chuckle.
Same kind of low end indirect sliming priming the pump before the campaign to drive Torre out ( which I agreed with the objective but not Kay having anything to do with it) or the decisions with Bernie or ARod.
I don't think a corporate shill job belongs in the broadcast.
Notice Kay does not need interviews from the manager so he is free to trash them to prepare the fans
Levine is a guy who makes a living scratching a corporate itch into an infection.
Picking up on a bosses transient sore point and feeding it is not the same as an actual insight
I realize its pure speculation on my part but sorry, like Greg with VTech; I don't like Levine and I don't like Kay when he shills ( or tries to get one of the ex players to feed into the rant so its not just him. Leiter did a good job of leaving him out there all alone on that one)
While it is infuriating to watch Dellin walk guys like that, he is special enough where you give him enough leash to work out of it. Now he has the pieces to allow for more of that with DB and AC. But you will see that leash get shorter and shorter as more games are pit at risk.
But you see thats the thing, grabbing Alonso is going to give us the freedom to continue trotting Bird out there going forward without committing to him long term. If he plays great, then we have a good problem and a fall back option in case Bird never comes back to what he was.
I cant possibly imagine Cash letting go of major prospects for Alonso. Maybe it'll be a cash thing or a couple minor pieces to fill out the deal.
Cashman: We'll give you Florial, Mateo, and Heller for Gray.
A's GM: We want Florial, Mateo, and Acevedo.
Cashman: If you want Acevedo over Heller, you need to throw in Alonso.
Or something like that.
I disagree. He hasn't been the completely dominant Betances we've seen in the past, but he's still the only pitcher top 10 in K rate and HR rate among relievers. He pitched well in Seattle and I honestly think (and they think) he needs more work. Obviously he sucked today. But I would expect Joe to go right back to him by Thursday at the latest.
The difference now is that Joe isn't going to let the game get lost with Dellin struggling on the mound.
Great performance by Monty.

I love Betances, been one of my favorite players on the team these past few years. But the guy hasn't struggled for a few weeks or something. It's been a couple of months. He has shown a few signs of righting the ship recently, but nearly giving up the lead to the worst hitting team in MLB at home isn't acceptable. We need to win these winnable games.

He's shown signs of righting the ship recently like I said in that post. But he's mostly struggled for awhile now. It's a fact.
93 innings last year, 111 innings this year and its July.
Uncharted waters, and preventing injury.

had a great game--2 hits, 0 walks, 7 ks, but came out after 5 innings. Any ideas why? I know it drizzled, but I don't think there were rain delays. Could it be a trade brewing?

so you might be giving up prospects for a rental in a year where we don't have pressure to win a WS. Gray is team-controlled for 2 more years. I'd make the deal just for Gray

Totally thought it was the right move. Cinci has a ton of power up and down the lineup and 1 bad pitch its a tie game. It doesn't matter what he's done up to that point. When you have Kahnle hot and ready there you go to him 100 times out of 100.
