Outlier. Big time.

I'll be so pissed if this trade goes down and we give up what they seem to be demanding. We are praying Gray can turn the clock back and I don't like gambling our future on that.
So if we get Alonso does that mean Headley and Frazier platoon 3B?
DennyInDenville : 7/25/2017 7:17 pm : link
What's that mean?

Headley has been good against RHP AND better then Frazier imo

Agreed 100% I don't want Gray or Alonso if it involves any of our big names like Florial or Mateo .. a package of our 10-20th prospects should get it done but teams seem to wanna trade with the Yankees and get our big names ..

Chicago was very reasonable with us imo.

Bases loaded, no out.
Soft liner to short, fielded on a short hop by the SS.
Flips to second, onto first for the DP.
First baseman throws back to third - Didi was hung up between second and third because he thought the liner might be caught.

Bases loaded, Frazier hits one pretty well to short, Didi holds up in case it's caught, it's not, they turn a dp and then get Didi in a rundown for a triple play

Low line drive that SS short hopped. Didi at first went back to 3nd, so after the Reds turned the normal DP, Didi got hung up between 2nd and 3rd, called out for going out of the baseline, but they'd have had him anyhow.

That's obviously because you don't follow guys further down in the system. And I'm not saying that they are off limits. But all in the same deal for Sonny Gray? No thanks. I get it, it will take guys like that in this market, but I'm not willing to do it for Sonny Gray.

I'm not really worried about it, I'm just saying. If you can make a deal for a 27-year old frontline starting pitcher with 2 1/2 years left before free agency and not give up any of your top three prospects, that's a good day.

I follow them all, checking the stats for SWB, Trenton, and Charleston every day. And the Yankees farm system is well-enough stocked that they can withstand the loss of Florial, Mateo, and Acevedo (who are good prospects, but years away), especially if you believe the future of the outfield is Frazier, Hicks, and Judge.

We're contending today. I'd say it's pretty clear this team can contend. Both the winning and losing streaks aren't exclusively true reads of this team but they are what their record says they are. And what if they feast here at home? The AL east is flawed...take it.

I'm thinking long term, not a single year fix here, so I'd give Bird one more shot at the job next year before making a permanent switch at 1st. We are short of pitching so Gray fills both an immediate and long-term need

It was his first outing allowing runs since the Toronto meltdown. He's been getting back to what he was. You've already told us how you can't stand him.

Whenever I hear Kay doing that kind of rant ( can hear it in his voice) I think it was a planned and planted rant from Levine

Ya know, I had a similar thought. You can tell when YES gets the green light to turn up the heat on someone.
Kay is right.

I love Betances, been one of my favorite players on the team these past few years. But the guy hasn't struggled for a few weeks or something. It's been a couple of months. He has shown a few signs of righting the ship recently, but nearly giving up the lead to the worst hitting team in MLB at home isn't acceptable. We need to win these winnable games.
Apparently Al Leiter didn't get the memo

I do agree with Kay though

What a start by Montgomery. Took a no-hitter into the 6th inning. He needed this start.

I don't take it as about Betances. I grant that's the subject. But its not the object.

Same kind of low end indirect sliming priming the pump before the campaign to drive Torre out ( which I agreed with the objective but not Kay having anything to do with it) or the decisions with Bernie or ARod.

I don't think a corporate shill job belongs in the broadcast.

Notice Kay does not need interviews from the manager so he is free to trash them to prepare the fans
Same game
Bill2 : 7/25/2017 9:57 pm : link
Kay had the inside answers as to how the FO thinks the Yanks should be doing and why they one a piece or two more.

Levine is a guy who makes a living scratching a corporate itch into an infection.

Picking up on a bosses transient sore point and feeding it is not the same as an actual insight
sorry
Bill2 : 7/25/2017 10:01 pm : link
why they " want " a piece or two more

I realize its pure speculation on my part but sorry, like Greg with VTech; I don't like Levine and I don't like Kay when he shills ( or tries to get one of the ex players to feed into the rant so its not just him. Leiter did a good job of leaving him out there all alone on that one)
I think what many here

Dont understand is that you really have to allow players to work out of funks. That is 100% a thing. It didnt cost us tonight thankfully, and didnt cost us last game against the Ms. Girardi has let Chapman work out of them just as he is letting Farzier and Holliday. After a prolonged stretch of there being a better option (Ellsbury) he will go with the hot hand. But yanking a player from his spot in the rotation or lineup shows a lack of faith that might not be able to be regained.

While it is infuriating to watch Dellin walk guys like that, he is special enough where you give him enough leash to work out of it. Now he has the pieces to allow for more of that with DB and AC. But you will see that leash get shorter and shorter as more games are pit at risk.

so you might be giving up prospects for a rental in a year where we don't have pressure to win a WS. Gray is team-controlled for 2 more years. I'd make the deal just for Gray

But you see thats the thing, grabbing Alonso is going to give us the freedom to continue trotting Bird out there going forward without committing to him long term. If he plays great, then we have a good problem and a fall back option in case Bird never comes back to what he was.

I cant possibly imagine Cash letting go of major prospects for Alonso. Maybe it'll be a cash thing or a couple minor pieces to fill out the deal.
Alonso would just be a throw-in...
Milton : 7/25/2017 10:14 pm : link
Think...
Cashman: We'll give you Florial, Mateo, and Heller for Gray.
A's GM: We want Florial, Mateo, and Acevedo.
Cashman: If you want Acevedo over Heller, you need to throw in Alonso.

Or something like that.
Acevedo...

had a great game--2 hits, 0 walks, 7 ks, but came out after 5 innings. Any ideas why? I know it drizzled, but I don't think there were rain delays. Could it be a trade brewing?

I disagree. He hasn't been the completely dominant Betances we've seen in the past, but he's still the only pitcher top 10 in K rate and HR rate among relievers. He pitched well in Seattle and I honestly think (and they think) he needs more work. Obviously he sucked today. But I would expect Joe to go right back to him by Thursday at the latest.

The difference now is that Joe isn't going to let the game get lost with Dellin struggling on the mound.

Great performance by Monty.

He's shown signs of righting the ship recently like I said in that post. But he's mostly struggled for awhile now. It's a fact.

93 innings last year, 111 innings this year and its July.

Uncharted waters, and preventing injury.

Hopefully we are coming out of the 5 week trip through the woods
Stu11 : 7/26/2017 8:28 am : link
we survived with our heads attached as we're just 1 game out of first and the Sox are reeling. The trade we made with Chicago was huge as the added caveat is that we blocked the Sox from a deal they could totally of used. Forget Frazier, they desperately needed High Socks and Kahnle. Their pen is mediocre.
Oh and the best thing thats come out of the past week
Stu11 : 7/26/2017 8:32 am : link
is that Chappy is looking like Chappy again. The command and velocity looks much more back to normal. I won't often say this but I totally agree with Kay's point. There are no need for roles with this pen. We have 6 great arms and they can pitch in any role. Its not overkill. We can now mix and match and not get caught with our pants down and nobody available like last Monday in Minnesota.

I've also noticed that the Yank's are pulling most of their minor league starters after 5 or 6 innings as of late.
They do that with their major league starters too

Agree, but trading prospects for rentals and aging vets has been their forte over the years. That's why the minors were so void of talent up until a couple of years ago. Not too long back Refsnyder considered one of their top prospects. The team has been really exciting since the youth movement, I hate to see Cash potentially mortgaging the farm for short term gratification when he has the pieces for another dynasty if he would just be patient.

Totally thought it was the right move. Cinci has a ton of power up and down the lineup and 1 bad pitch its a tie game. It doesn't matter what he's done up to that point. When you have Kahnle hot and ready there you go to him 100 times out of 100.
Acevedo and German are on innings limits from here on out...
