Running Back Orleans Darkwa

August 3, 2017

Q: It seems like the defense is hitting more people, how do you feel about that?

A: You got to be ready for it. It’s training camp. You are putting on the pads for the first time. There are going to be some scuffles here and there. Everybody is going to try to fit their pads in here and there. As backs, I try to tell the group be ready for it. You got to let yourself be known as well, so be ready for it and prepare yourself and put your head down if you have to.

Q: Is that something that Head Coach Ben McAdoo has expanded more this training camp? It seems like there are more guys leaving their feet this training camp.

A: I’m not really sure. B.J [Goodson] there, it’s his first season as a starter so maybe he is trying to make a point or something, I don’t know. As far as atmosphere, like I said before, it’s training camp, it’s going to happen. There are going to be hits, there are going to be some things here and there, some scuffles here and there, but you just got to be prepared for it.

Q: Did you have to get checked out at all?

A: Yeah, they checked me for a little bit but I was fine.

Q: Do you see the opportunity here to get the regular amount of touches you have shown you can handle?

A: Yeah, that’s what I am trying to prepare myself for, that is what I am trying to build for. I have said this for years now, at the end of the day, my mentality is to want to be the starter on this team and be an impact player on the offense. That is not going to change the chip on my shoulders, it is not going to go anywhere, and so I just have to prepare myself like that and keep getting better each practice.

Q: What is the x-factor of getting more touches?

A: Yeah, I would say health is one thing. Obviously I wasn’t there towards the end of the season last year, but just being consistent and being able to do everything. Being a complete back, catching the ball out of the backfield, pass protecting, and obviously running the ball in any type of situation. So, just being a complete back and staying on the field.

Q: How much do you look forward to the preseason games?

A: I am definitely looking forward to it. Obviously we have been in pads for three days now. We have been hitting each other, but obviously to go out there and compete against another team, it’s always fun. You have a lot of guys out there that want to showcase their abilities not just to this team, but to the other teams around the league. It’s exciting to be out there and compete and everyone is looking forward to it.

Q: Do you expect to get a lot of reps?

A: I have no idea.
