NFT: Costco Gold membership for $60

spike : 8/6/2017 7:56 am
a year. Is it a good deal?

we've never joined before
I love Costco
TheMcThrill : 8/6/2017 8:11 am : link
If you go frequently and buy enough stuff, it's absolutely worth it.
If it's the same offer I saw,
Ira : 8/6/2017 8:37 am : link
it includes a $20 gift card and a $10 pizza. If you like Costco, you can't go wrong.
We have all three cards -

Costco, BJs and Sams. I like Sams the least. Costco has great meats, believe it or not.
Sounds like a good deal
UConn4523 : 8/6/2017 8:48 am : link
would probably look into it myself but the local Costco is a nightmare, chaos every time I've gone.

What about the meat BJ's? I thought they'd be number one in the meat category, being they're BJs.

BJs is good. Might be personal preference, but always felt Costco was just a little better.
I've had both BJs and Sams
Gman11 : 8/6/2017 9:36 am : link
in the past and the thought of paying a fee to shop somewhere is ridiculous.

If you have a big family and want to buy things in bulk then they're OK, but I've done the math and you really don't save much at all you can just buy larger items. Instead of buying a 5 pound bag of flour, you buy a 20 pound bag. When you figure the cost per pound it's about the same as you would pay somewhere else.
Costco is the better than BJ's
VTDAD : 8/6/2017 10:13 am : link
Much better meats, bakery and prepared food. More selection of non-grocery items. Costco employees seem a notch above your usual WallyWorld, grocery store staff.

However my nearest Costco is and hour away and Bj's is 20 minutes over the border in tax-free NH. And they sell gas. So BJ's it is.

If you get their best affiliated credit card and use it to pay for your BJ's purchases, you make more than enough in cash back to pay your annual fee and then some. Also gives you an additional 10₵ a gallon off the members' price. Paid $2.03 a gallon last week... very cheap for our area.
Get the executive membership
ImThatGuy : 8/6/2017 10:21 am : link
It's $110 but you get some ok cash back. Even if you just use it for gas you will likely recoup the $110 throughout the year, plus by me the gas is significantly cheaper than anything nearby
We use the $120 membership
larryflower37 : 8/6/2017 10:27 am : link
with 2% back it covers the membership plus a little more every year.

I smoke something every weekend and their meats are great quality and priced right.

We bought our washer and dryer there 6 months ago they offer free delivery, set-up, hauled away the old ones and an additional 2-year warranty for less than everyone else had just the washer and dryer.

I was never a fan of pay to shop but it has more than paid for itself over the years. (plus there online pricing is really good also)
Love Costco
feelflows : 8/6/2017 10:35 am : link
We just got one this year. Got the executive one for $120 but got half back in a gift card as it's a new Costco. 2% back end of year.

Go weekly for stuff like cottage cheese, apples, halo top and meat. The dry goods are killer.

Anything that ends in .97 is clearance.

Go to slickdeals.net and search Costco for great weekly deals.
Yes, it much more than a warehouse
ZogZerg : 8/6/2017 10:36 am : link
Best rental car deals going I get through Costco.
Glasses, tires, etc.
Costco is a zoo, a terrible shoping experience
Stan in LA : 8/6/2017 11:47 am : link
The big chains (who DON'T charge a yearly fee) and just as competitive price wise(if not better in many cases). Don't be fooled.
Bought
mitch300 : 8/6/2017 12:44 pm : link
My car thru Costco. Set price no haggling. Was like 500 over invoice.
If you don't have a family it might not be worth your while
jcn56 : 8/6/2017 12:50 pm : link
I'd pay it anyway, because I love their customer service. No questions asked returns, and they usually only stock quality merchandise (makes sense not to sell junk if you're going to stand behind what you sell).

With a family, it's a no-brainer several times over, but get the exec membership if you plan on food shopping. I get back several times what the membership costs me in cashback every year. My grocery bills would easily be 20% higher if Costco ceased to exist.

What cars can buy from Costco? That's worth it right there if they have a good selection of makes and models.

They don't sell cars. They have a service that arranges a fixed price with a network of car dealers. You then buy the car from the dealer at that price. You can find similar services elsewhere.

Had a special on Costco on how they operate. The Kirkland products which is there brand have standards that they almost match quality of name brand products. I am not big on alcohol, I have read that the Kirkland vodka ia as good as grey goose and a lot cheaper.

Costco is worth it
Deej : 8/6/2017 6:40 pm : link
I was skeptical but it was really worth it.

Those chickens are just so good. Also, probably saved me $2500 on baby formula.

Joke flew waaaaay over your head.
I just renewed my Costco membership for $60
Beer Man : 8/7/2017 8:31 am : link
This was an increase over last year. What I have found is that most of the stuff I buy in Costco I can also buy in Sams. The timing is always hit or miss, so I jump between the two. Also, many of the Kirkland products (Costco's brand) can also be purchased on Amazon.
Even the avacados we get at Costco are great quality

booked a rental car for today
feelflows : 8/7/2017 1:20 pm : link
through Costco..saved a ton. If you travel a lot for work, you make up the membership fee in savings very quickly.

The Kirkland products being sold on Amazon are people buying them at Costco and then reselling them (at a nice markup).
I think BJ's membership is
Doomster : 8/8/2017 1:17 pm : link
$50.....

Also with my BJ's credit card:

A BJ's Perks Plus membership with the My BJ's Perks MasterCard pays you 3% back on most in-Club and BJs.com purchases. You also earn 10 cents off per gallon at BJ's Gas every day, 2% on eating out and non-BJ's Gas purchases and 1% everywhere else MasterCard is accepted. There is no limit on earnings with this membership.

The member gas price is about $0.15 below my local gas station, add the extra $0.10 by using my BJ's CC, and it's like $0.25 off per gallon...

After shopping with the card for for about 5 months, I used my credits up.....$78 bill became $18....love my BJ's....the store, I mean...
